I can no longer recommend BigCommerce

I can no longer recommend BigCommerce. I have been with them for over a decade and stuck with them even with all of their price increases. I started out with the $29.95/mo plan and currently am on the $400/month plan because they keep "upgrading" me because of my sales - even though I'm a handmade seller and my sales do not equal profit by any means. Over a month ago I purchased a new theme at $235 and none of the features worked. I have gone back and forth with BigCommerce, showed them screen shots of the issues, and I reverted back to my previous theme which is another theme I had purchased many years ago. I requested a refund and they refuse to refund me for this theme that will not work. They just keep telling me to contact the developer - even though I purchased this on THEIR site and they told me if I showed screen shots they would refund me. This is the last straw. I'm switching to another platform. They can kiss my $400/month goodbye.

33% price increase

They recently put the price of the base plan up $10/month - 33% - what a rip off. None of the emails specified it was going up that much.

Horrible company

Horrible company! I have had my website here since 2019 and it has never been smooth. Now, we have experienced technical issues that forced me to change platforms for my website and point of sale in my store. Tech support opened tickets for the issues and never resolved them. Spent hours in chats with customer service and on phone calls only to get the run around. Never solved the issue and my store couldn't function properly without the system in place. Now, I have been charged almost $400 for an annual plan that they will not refund me for. TERRIBLE SERVICE. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. THEY JUST WANT TO TAKE YOUR MONEY AND LEAVE YOU HANGING.

One star is too much!

One star is too much!

BigDev course is just a joke, full of broken links and misinformation.

Made a complaint 3 months ago asking for my money back and they are still making me go in circles.

This is a joke of a company, their customer service is just poor when you complain about anything. They make you believe that you are being attended to and they are just playing with you and your expectations.

AVOID at all costs, not only the courses but the platform itself.

Con artists

I’d like to make a complaint about your company. I was contacted by one of your agents (Stella, phone +44 7366 669793) who said she got my number from the Big Commerce company database.
After explaining what your company is about, I explained to her, early on, that I didn’t have any money.
It wasn’t long before I was asked to pay 33 USDT to continue doing the training. I told her I thought it was dodgy, but she assured me it wasn’t.
After spending 48 hours on the tasks, she told me I couldn’t proceed without paying additional funds. I told her that I didn’t have any money, and she just said I couldn’t proceed.

28/08/23 13:04 me:
You said there were no costs involved, yet I’ve just lost £40.
You haven’t explained why Im in a negative balance after transferring 100 USDT into the account.

13:09 me:
I will report the company. Thanks for nothing (but wasting my time).

13:09 Stella:
OK, go a head, if you think it an help you to get your money back

13:14 me:
I hope you can sleep at night, praying on vulnerable people. Shame on you!

13:14 Stella:
God bless you

13:17 Stella:
Maybe you're not deserve to get this chance

13:17 me:
Charming!

Nothing. Spent more time with tech support trying to get the website UP! NONE of my clients could even LOAD it!
I had 5, yes 5 ORDERS the entire time.
8/1 I moved back to original host and in 2 weeks made triple what I made on Big Commerce.
My accountant figures we lost over $1500 per month MINIMUM

If you want poor service and to be…

If you want poor service and to be ripped off shop here !

Very poor back up service and like banging your head off the wall. A year plus of the mobile site being unable to search for products and nothing done.

Contacts page causes you to get nothing but spam mails from bots.

The biggest joke is you can add on Inkfrog to sync between your website and Ebsy. This is at cost of around 30 dollars a month. But they then class the revenue you have already generated outside the website as revenue made by the website and triple your bill ! The website is running at such a low percentage due to not working on mobile app. That we do less and less turnover by the website.

You can also guarantee 50 percent of the time you can't upload from BC to Ink as errors.

Also the site has a really bad habit of putting stock live that is sold out. Or not synchronising stock between Ebay and it's self.

The security checks are also a joke same computer same internet. But nope it say different computer and network. Told them all the reasons and costings a rip off, but not ɓothered just ķķķĵĵjĵ

BigCommerce: A Witty Wonderland of Features... and Follies!

This first part is less a subjective review and more a suggestion for you to observe on your own time: the BIG COMMECRCE community. It is nothing more then a false facade to give you the feeling like your input matters. For years, users have complained about many different , SIMPLE things that could make their lives better. I have yet to come across an 'idea' that has been implemented. dozens of users vote on an idea that results with nothing. For example, the addition of a 'undo' feature in page builder has been suggested 22 times since 2017 and agreed upon by 121 users. At what point do you realize that they're not listening? THey have a 'moderator' who closes threads as soon as she can because their analytics would show poor quality in thir support ```

Oh, where do I even begin with BigCommerce. How about their app store? It's truly a work of art, a masterpiece in the world of modern-day scams. Let me enlighten you about this magical wonderland of "abilities and features" that should've been included in our oh-so-generous BigCommerce subscription.
First off, who doesn't love being billed for things that should have been part of the package in the first place? It's like the cherry on top of the ice cream sundae of disappointment. I mean, what's the point of having a subscription if you can't spend more money on apps that should've been included in the basic plan?
And let's not forget about BigCommerce's page builder – a tool so advanced that it lacks an 'undo' feature. It's like going back in time to the days of Microsoft Paint from 1998, except even Paint had an 'undo' button. But hey, who needs to undo mistakes when you can just start from scratch every time you mess up, right? Connecting to platforms is so easy and straightforward; it only requires five different processes. Who needs simplicity when you can have complexity, confusion, and a touch of chaos? And brace yourself for the thrilling bonus – duplicate accounts! Cause that's what happened with Google, and now our company is suspended because BigCommerce made a duplicate account without our knowledge and that goes against Google policy. But here's the icing on this already sumptuous cake – BigCommerce's ingenious plan to withhold essential features from its users only to sell them back in their app marketplace. I found their marketplace to be 50x more annoying then Shopifys, not to mention NOTHING was cheap.

Used to be a fan but I am so done …

I had a Big Commerce site in 2012 -2014 that I absolutely loved. We left the platform for a while and came back in the end of 2017. For a while things were pretty smooth. However, Big Commerce recommended me to a developer to build our site. They charged me $40,000 and built a fully custom site that only they could work on so that they could earn another $3000 to $4000 a month. This was actually the good part of my experience with Big Commerce which will give you an idea just how bad it became .

It was impossible to find anyone who knew how to work on the platform and all of the “preferred partners “did not know a number less than $40,000. Such a racket and a total scam.
In 2020, I had all of the customizations removed and began to take care of the site myself. I was an enterprise client with dedicated level 2 support which was generally quite helpful. However, due to slower business from the pandemic, I renegotiated my rate in early 2023 to $1000 per month . apparently, that's not enough money to get decent support. They dropped me back to level one Support and often times the people I got new less than I did. ( Idk how this is possible as I know next to nothing .) I do not have the patience for that especially not paying that kind of money. Also, when I would raise a ticket Weeks would go by with no action and no response. Apparently, paying only $1000 a month doesn't entitle you to any decent support at all. I reached out to the CEO and was told by him personally that they weren’t going to do anything to help me. So I moved my Store to Shopify Plus. By the way, I was able to fully build the Shopify plus store all on my own having never built a site before. The tools made it quite easy to make a site that was far superior to my Big Commerce site in each and every way. I cannot even begin to tell you how much better the features are on Shopify. When building the Shopify site , if I needed help I would just call Shopify support and they walked me through .
I contacted Big Commerce three times to put my site on hold so that we would have access to historical data. It took 3 emails for them to finally respond . When attempting to migrate the store, the format that their export tools put things in is impossible to format correctly for any other platform with regard to orders. When I finally heard back from Big Commerce about putting my sites on hold , these people actually had the audacity to try to even raise my rate to not even have the stores on their platform anymore than when I was actually using the site . Yep , they want $1040 per month with no traffic and no revenue . All this just have access to historical data? Did I wake up on another planet? You must be kidding me ? Do yourself a favor and run to Shopify or Shopify plus. Superior support, incredibly superior platform.

BigCommerce: A Nightmare of an Ecommerce Platform

I was offered a free 2-month trial of BigCommerce to test out the platform. I was initially impressed with the features and functionality of BigCommerce, but my experience quickly soured after my trial ended.

I was not given any warning or notification that my trial would be ending. Instead, BigCommerce automatically charged my bank account for their top-tier Pro plan, which costs \$690 per month for shops that move 10000's of products. This is an absurd amount of money for a small shop that sells only 1-4 apparel products per day.

I contacted BigCommerce customer support to request a downgrade to their standard plan, which costs \$39 per month. However, I was met with rude and unhelpful representatives who refused to refund my money and remedy the situation.

When I called/contacted their support team to have this matter resolved, this is the conversation I was expecting to have

"oh wow, yeah that plan they put you on is completely inappropriate for your business, let's sort this out... i've refunded the amount and put you on the standard plan this won't happen again and will ensure you are given appropriate notification and reminders about your upcoming auto billing invoices., have a good day etc..."

This is the reality of what I got instead

"Yeah we can't refund you since your 2 month trial has ended, you should of known this. I assume you want to cancel your account with us? well I've already started the process on my end for you."

I believe that BigCommerce's predatory practices are intentional. They target small businesses with free trials, then automatically charge them for their top-tier plans without warning. This is a clear attempt to trap businesses into paying for a service that they do not need. The fact that they did not want to try and keep me on as a customer by easily resolving the situation is enough to tell you what they think of small business's/customers.

I would strongly advise businesses to avoid BigCommerce. They are a predatory company that will take advantage of you at every opportunity. I would recommend using a different ecommerce platform, such as Shopify or WooCommerce.

I am disappointed that BigCommerce would engage in such predatory practices. I had hoped that they would be a good platform for small businesses, but I was clearly mistaken. I would strongly advise businesses to avoid BigCommerce and consider other ecommerce platforms instead.

They are desperate.

PLEASE STAY AWAY

The pagebuilder within BigCommerce is not sufficient, not even close. If you want something else, you have to pay almost double the monthly cost. After that i tried the headless version, only to find out that de support really do not seem to know that headless is an option. Then the next problem came along, the tracking of data needed to make the (growth in) conversions. But no, this is another thing that BC does not care about, as long as you pay. Again, support knew nothing, documentation was a joke... But i also could not change the language settings to the native language i had to use, so the website would not look professional at all. So, even without putting my website online, and it has only been a couple months, they refuse any form of refund. SO PLEASE, do yourself a favor, and look elsewhere. Especially when you are a small or starting webshop and DEFINITELY when you do not want an English website.

Not fit for purpose - enterprise aspirations with back bedroom ability

One month to find out that a flaw with the checkout was a known issue - 6 months for a fix to a bug that deleted orders even when payments are successful. Now another bug whereby every time an existing product is added to an new category, the URL is changed automatically! Catastrophic for SEO. Our site is now flooded with 404s. BigCommerce is incredibly slow to fix fundamental issues, there is NO visibility of tickets nor of their progress, and account managers simply report that there is no progress, with a virtual shrug of their shoulders. Big clients are restless or leaving for a better platform. There are few that are worse.

Buyer Beware

Buyer Beware

We are an Enterprise level customer of Big Commerce and halfway through our first year contract they have emailed to say the following year contract renewal will increase in price 5%, and also it needs an annual payment in full. Which is close to 100k annually.

They are leveraging the time and money spent with your developer on the hopes that means you won't leave for Shopify

If you are a smaller client, who has put time and money into your site, only for it to be held hostage by Big Commerce, stumping up 20-30k in full up front is a joke and extremely damaging to your finances and brand.

This is a standard practice of deceitful companies, and we have wasted time, effort, and money in being with Big Commerce. We should have gone with Shopify and i hope you will understand the damage and hassle you will incur if you decide to not heed this warning.

It's taken 3 weeks of back and forth to be told in the end that we can now stay on our current terms but still with a 5% discount for the following year.

Shameful company

This is literally the worst cart system…

This is literally the worst cart system out there.

I've been in business online for over 12 years with my brand. I sell mostly through retail, but wanted to establish a stronger online presence and capture more direct sales and customers. I AGONIZED for more than 2 years, over choosing between Shopify and BC to migrate my site to.

I was promised that BC needed ZERO apps to function correctly. I was told that Shopify was inferior in every way. Guess what? That is wrong.

I made the decision to migrate my existing site to BC and after a week of work getting all of my products over to BC and getting prepared to launch, I discovered...BC doesn't even calculate sales tax at checkout! Even the most basic cart providers out there do this! Guess what? With BC you need an app just to calculate the sales tax! I'm not talking about collection and remittance of the tax. I mean you need an app to CALCULATE the tax.

Want better than the worst include analytics on BC? Guess what? Need an app? YEP! Want an abandoned cart emailer system? Better pony up $80 a month for the next level plan and service. Or. You guessed it! Install an app!

Let's talk about SPAM. Oh, my, the spam! I have endless spam and phishing emails sent to my business email daily. We are talking HUNDREDS of them. Don't believe me? Go on a FB BC group and read the horror stories. Where are the scammers getting our email addresses from? Hmmmm. BC SWEARS they're not selling our info. Maybe some of their unscrupulous vendors of the myriad of apps that you HAVE to install are? Hmmmm....

Oh, lets not forget about the recent price hikes! For zero added features.

Let's now talk about shopify. I recently launched a second brand and site and decided to go with Shopify make a decision about which provider would get both sites. Guess what? Shopify stomps them into oblivion.

Email software included out of the gate, tax calculations at checkout! Abandoned cart and product flows included. Way better analytics and integrations. Wait for it...ZERO spam emails from day one with Shopify.

Shopify needs more apps? Hmmmm. I have LESS on my Shopify store than my BC store and the few I do have (email, chat) are FREE. All for the same price as BC.

Some of the above Shopify stuff, some may not need. For starting a second brand, I am certainly thankful for it because it allows me to launch a new brand and see what additional expenses should be justified. If I were to have launched this second brand on BC I would be bled dry by the need for apps out of the gate.

BC...I'm sure that your archaic AOL styled system works well for something like an auto parts warehouse. Matter of fact, I believe that is the type of businesses that BC wants. Anything else? Shopify all of the way. There IS a reason that BC is not number one. Well, many reasons. The numbers do not lie. No cart system is perfect. However, BC is nowhere close.

PS - anyone out there telling you that you need so much less with BC out of the gate (apps, etc) is literally lying to you. They are either affiliates, software salespeople, developers, whatever. They have a vested interest in you joining BC, because those claims are blatantly false. Or, they are subjectively speaking because of some weird loyalty and buyers affirmation that they desperately seek. I cannot WAIT to migrate my 13 year old brand's site away from BC. What a mistake.
