House Rewiring

When my lights blew a fuse Billy came round and checked my wiring which he said was unsafe. After discussing my options with him I decided to have a complete rewire. Billy and his Co worker were the nicest guys you could wish to meet. So quick and so clean everything was perfect. As promised the work was completed in 5days wilstI was on holiday. I cannot recommend Billy.high enough.

Installation of sockets

I contacted BGW for the installation of 12 sockets as I had found them on the Niceic website. Job quoted for one day but went in to two days. Not a major issue as it was a fair amount of work to sink some of the sockets in and some fault finding was required. It was quite expensive (£450 per day if I supplied the sockets and cable myself) but we needed the job done as soon as poss and they were available.

Electrician came round and worked really hard the first day. Seemed very efficient. Returned for the second days work a few weeks later, but sadly the end result was far from adequate.

I had put a laser level lines around the room for the socket locations height and central in the wall etc. The end result was very poor. Not level and some were 2-3 inches off central. There was a lot of damage to the surrounding in wall (smashed with a breaker and not neatly drilled/cut out). A number of the sockets were also insecure and very loose. I found one where the back box was packed out with coiled up electrical cable and plastic as the gap behind was so big.

A number of the sockets were not flush with the wall and the back boxes were proud.

I expressed my unhappiness with the result and still received an invoice as if the job was done. I contacted the company owner and explained the issues. To be fair he agreed this was unacceptable and arranged to return.

The day of repair work they arrived on site and began working. The first electrician was miserable and very unfriendly (presumably because his poor work had been flagged up). Either way they began the repair work. The owner left half way through the day and the initial electrician continued. At the end of the day he came out to say he was done. I went in and found the work was still very poor and most sockets were still uneven and not where I had asked for them to be located. I explained this and the electrician snapped back angrily that I was putting problems in the way and that he had had enough of this job. I told him if he felt this way he should pack up his tools and get out of my house. I told him that I drew exactly where I wanted the sockets and levelled and measured them exactly. I also said that had he done what I asked in the first place he would not have had to return at all. We had a very heated discussion and he just said he would fix it and turned away from me a refused to speak. As I fully expected the further work that day did not end well and I had to once again call the owner and explain that his electrician was incredibly rude the work was still to a very poor standard. I told him I would not be allowing his electrician back in my house.

The owner was apologetic and we arrange for him to return and fix the job to an appropriate standard.

He did return and the sockets ended up level and where they were initially supposed to be. Sadly we have been left with huge gaps around the sockets that I will need to repair with filler. The owner did give £100 off the bill to cover the materials to repair the walls.

It was a shame the job ended this way as I need a lot more work done. The owner seemed to be good at his job and a pleasant person, but the initial electrician let us (and the owner) down massively.

I have given 2 stars as the owner did rectify the job, but I have been left with a lot of unnecessary work as a result of the way the job started. Also the rudeness of initial electrician and his poor standard of work has left me quite unhappy.
