Family run for three generations, Beattys celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2011; having first opened our doors in 1931. We began trading as a small grocery, hardware, and grain store on Church Street, Loughrea. Our longevity can be primarily attributed to the ongoing support of the local community and our staff’s dedication to providing exceptional advice, value, and service to our valued customers
The team of more than 40 staff at Beattys has a wealth of experience and product knowledge. Over half of the staff members have been working in Beattys for 15 years or more.
Our Stores
Beattys has two separate locations in Loughrea, Co. Galway. The Station Road premises is a fully stocked builders’ merchant with plumbing, bathroom, timber flooring, and hire departments as well as a complete range of agricultural feeds and fertiliser. The Main Street/Church Street premises is a 15,000 square feet retail outlet stocking an extensive range in each of the following departments: housewares, interior furnishing, electrical, DIY, toys, paint, and gardening. To ensure we have the best prices possible, we are part of 3 buying groups, Topline hardware, Euronics Electrical, and Toymaster. We endeavor to stock many interesting and unique products, especially in the housewares and interior furnishing departments. If you’re looking for something different, we have it.
Local Community
We show our appreciation to the Loughrea community for this ongoing support by engaging in fundraising efforts, and we regularly host fun events for our customers. In 2013 we organised a Shave or Dye event where 35 people either shaved off or dyed their hair on the night in Beattys, raising more than €10,000 for the Irish Cancer Society.

Order from somewhere else
I would not advise anyone to order from here. I ordered a dryer four weeks ago and still have not received it. I rang the shop last week and only then did they get it collected for delivery. Four days later and still no sign of delivery. When I rang the shop again, I was informed that it could be two further weeks with the delivery company because they are taking away the old appliance and staff advised me to follow up myself with the delivery company as they had no tracking number for the delivery. I tried to just cancel the order but as the delivery company have the item I could not cancel. It is ridiculous that something could take this long to be delivered and even more crazy that you pay a shop for an item to be delivered and they expect you to follow up on the delivery yourself. I would advise anyone to purchase from anywhere else but Beatty in Loughrea … stay clear of here

Good service, atrocious packing
Beatty’s customer service were very good in the sense that they’re easy to get through to and straightforward to deal with when you contact them. However, the overall experience was let down badly by poor packaging and a lack of proactive communication about expected delivery dates and times.
My parcel was meant to arrive before Christmas but was delayed, and there wasn’t enough clear information unless I chased it myself. More importantly, a few of the items were ceramic and they arrived utterly destroyed. I respect that Beatty’s are environmentally conscious and self sustainable, but fragile items need proper protection, otherwise they’re guaranteed to break in transit.
Maybe take a few packaging tips from Amazon, not in terms of excess waste, but in terms of actually securing and cushioning items properly so they arrive intact. It’s a pity because there is quality service there, but due to the delays, lack of delivery updates, and the condition of the items on arrival, I have to leave a low rating. I hope they take this feedback on board.
