Very personable guys and very professional at conducting the tour. The running commentary over CB radio in each car as you drive along is a masterstroke as it keeps the tour engaging everyone in the group throughout.

I have visited France on many occasions, but this was one of the most thought provoking and insightful occasions. Carl and Max lead a tour that could not be beaten. The experience of driving over roads walked by those about to go into battle, to drive up a slope and suddenly find yourself on an open area with views for miles brings home the reality of the horrors of going 'over the top'. I can't speak highly enough of these tours. If you are going to France, do it in a 4x4 on a guided tour by people who really know. From scene setting in museums, to driving the battlefields, to the CWGC resting places, to memorials for the missing, this covered the whole range giving a real insight.

Carl and Max were excellent hosts, making the tour informative and enjoyable. It was an emotional experience to drive through peaceful French fields while hearing about battlefield tactics, seeing countless white headstones and imagining the noise and turmoil. A great experience all round.

This was my first trip with Battlefieldsby4*4 and wasn't quite sure what to expect. Both of our guides where fantastic, very knowledgeable and made the whole subject come alive. I have already recommended battlefieldsby4*4 to some other friends and we are already talking about our next trip.

This is the 4th tour i've been on with Battlefieldsby4x4 and i've yet to find anything to criticise. The tour was well organised and informative but with a relaxed, friendly approach. The almost non stop commentary over the CB is very informative and evocative, bringing everything alive and making us aware of the debt we owe to those brave men 100 years ago.

I have just returned from my second trip and have already booked my next with the guys at Battlefields by 4x4.
Both of the trips we have been on were truly unforgettable experiences.
Informative, moving, inspirational, enjoyable I cannot convey how good they really are.
Throughout the guided tours the excellent Keith gives a running commentary over the CB radios that helps illustrates the scenes of 100 years ago and it really makes the trip, this is something you would not get on other tours or by yourself.
All of the other little touches by the team make the trip extra special and their attention to detail is second to none, thank you Nick, Carl, Tim and Keith for making us feel so welcome and for creating these magical trips that enable us to pay homage to all of the heroes who put their lives on the line for us all those years ago.

Having taken part on the april Arras tour I cannot speak highly enough of Nick, Keith and Carl whose knowledge of the Arras offensive was very impressive and together with their good humoured banter made for a cracking weekend. I would thoroughly recommend their tours.

Good to catch up with you guys again at the Donnington 4x4 Show. For those who have not been on one of their tours.....then I highly recommend them, full of expertise knowledge, great camping, great off road tracks....all in all a thoroughly great experience.
I have been on two of their tours, The Somme and Arras and both were absolutely fantastic. The team have a wealth of knowledge and transport you back in time where your imagination and emotions take over as you stand in the footsteps of those who were there. Amazing stuff.

I was introduced to Battlefieldsby4x4 by a work colleague who had been on a couple of their tours, and who recommended them to me. I wasn't disappointed, and both my partner and I had one of the most interesting and emotional weekends of our lives. The tours are hugely respectful as well as informative, and the small group sizes keep them nimble and easy-going. You cover a lot of ground in a weekend and come away with a new understanding of how the battles unfolded. It's no exaggeration to say that our tour (of the Somme) was a life-changing experience.

This tour with Nigel, Carl and Nick was brilliant. We were welcomed immediately and made to feel part of the team from the start. The schedule was well planned and we went to so many very emotional and interesting places that are one part of our WW1 history. These lovely guides brought the battlefields to life and helped us make sense of some of the struggles our ancestors went through. We highly recommend Battlefieldsby4x4 and are looking forward to our next one this year.

Went on a Somme trip in 2016 with a few friends in my Discovery. Excellent commentary by our three guides, Nick, Carl and Nigel, whether over the CB as we were travelling or face-to-face as we got out and walked round the sites. They have amazing knowledge of the area, the different cemeteries and the battle sites, and nothing was too much trouble for them – and no question too difficult! We wanted to see a particular cemetery which wasn’t on the tour, but they helped us to find it and then rejoin the main party. Have already booked for another tour this year, and that won’t be the last!

When booking I thought that maybe the cost was a bit on the high side for driving around in my own vehicle and staying in a tent. How wrong I was, the CB radios and constant commentary with fascinating facts and figures as well as very personal stories of some of those who lost their lives, combined with a great knowledge of the area, means we saw places that few if any other people visiting the Somme ever see? Thoroughly enjoyable and thought provoking and will definitely be doing another battlefield 4x4 tour.

I took my father (Nigel) on the Somme tour last year and we both rated the experience as one of the best weekend breaks ever. Our guides Nick, Nigel and Karl were extremely knowledgeable and could not do enough to help us. The tour stuck the right balance between, history and somber narrative with plenty of humour as well. Best moments include the evening meal with all the group in an excellent local restaurant, Carl's drone footage, Nicks historical commentary and Nigel's disappointment when my father managed to blag a WW 1 Winchester Rifle from a local farmer. Plenty of memories - will definately go again next year with same company. Cannot recommend it highly enough. All the best for 2017 from Nick and Nigel G.

Did the weekend trip with a few friends and it was amazing. The experience the team have is incredible and I'm glad they shared it with us. Would recommend this to anyone!

An amazing experience we will be back for another visit with Battlefieldsby4x4 from the moment we arrived we felt like part of the family the whole team clearly has a real passion that gives you a real understanding of the battles and events of those who put their lives on the line so that we can be here today - the stories and knowledge brings to life a roller coaster range of emotions that at times brings silence and also a smile or two.
The whole experience is professionally run with a relaxed almost family like manner and atmosphere - we are really looking forward to our next trip and will be taking other with us!

This is by far the best travel company we have ever used. The whole experience is perfect, booking was simple and informative, the team are very friendly and down to earth. They have so much knowledge and pass it on in a way that has you holding your breath waiting for more info. We have been on done three Somme trips and one to Normandy for the D Day anniversary and I honestly cannot fault them. It even inspired me to write in our local parish magazine about one of the soldiers.

We have done two trips with Battlefieldsby4x4. We did the Somme in 2015 and had a great time. It was very informative and gave me a brand new view of the battle and the running commentary brought it all to life.
In 2106 we did the D-day trip and this was a totally different but equally impressive experience. Especially moving was attending the D-day commemoration which just added to week-end. The atmosphere created by all the guys is just wonderful. nothing was too much trouble and a nicer bunch you couldn't meet. Thoroughly recommended.
