I’m very disappointed/no consideration to loyal customers

I’m very disappointed. I am a local and have been a loyal customer of this shop.

I saw the advertisement that the first 30 customers would receive a free pastry with their coffee. I came to the store at around 7:40 a.m. to buy flowers for my mum (mother’s day) and a coffee. However, I did not receive the free pastry. I was later told that there was a rule that customers had to show the post, which I was not aware of.

In SuperValu Dalkey, the staff usually inform customers about special offers. Sometimes they even remind you that if you buy one more item, you can get a “buy one, get one free” deal. Unfortunately, at the Barnhill store, the staff did not mention the special offer or show any consideration. Their prices in this shop are much more expensive compared to other stores.

It also makes me wonder about elderly customers who shop here, as they may not know about social media posts or special rules attached to promotions.

I hope the shop can improve communication about promotions and show more consideration to customers in the future.

Just returned from a substantial shop…

Just returned from a substantial shop in Barnhill Stores and have to commend a male working in the butcher department. I do not know his name but he has an Australian accent and has excellent communication skills, is extremely knowledgeable about meat and goes above and beyond what one would expect. Example -having helped me with the meat for a new recipe I then went looking for cornflour, one of the ingredients but could not find it. My wifi din't work in the shop so I returned to him and asked what's a good substitute and he correctly advised plain flour would do the trick.I continued with my shop and then noticed he was browsing the isle where the cornflour should have been making sure I had not failed to notice it. He found the spot where it should have been and suggested he would see if there was any in the stores but I was happy with the flour substitute. A gentleman and an excellent member of staff. Young male who checked me out and took my shopping to my car was also excellent with a helpful and warm personality.

Way over priced

The store is lovely. Some fantastic products but the prices are a absolute rip off. 10euros for a chicken roll with lettuce and coleslaw.. Crazy. Any other place you would be paying 5euros. I feel they take advantage of being the only store local. I wouldn't be stopping off here for lunch again.

Retail excellence

Possibly the best retail experience in Ireland. Beautiful store, immaculately clean and a lovely team. Highly recommend as a local store for picking up some bits and pieces or if you want the experience of FX Buckley’s from the butcher counter.

Gold Standard

Its a beautiful store, staff are lovely and so helpful. The deli counter is exceptionally good, lots of variety in the salads and sandwiches. I particularly like their wine selection- different options from your typical supermarket. Its gold standard of retail in my view. Always a lovely shopping experience.

Very disappointing and embarrassing experience

As a regular shopper in the store; what started as a good-natured interaction a Sunday morning quickly turned into something very uncomfortable. One of the staff members responded in a confrontational and defensive way, completely misreading my tone and intentions. I was honestly in a good mood and trying to be polite, but her reaction was unexpectedly aggressive and made me feel very uncomfortable. When I asked to speak to the manager, I had hoped for a fair and understanding response. Instead, the manager seemed to take sides without even hearing me out properly, clearly having spoken to the staff member. I felt dismissed and misjudged, as if my concerns didn’t matter at all. This whole experience left me feeling embarrassed and extremely disappointed. As a paying customer, I expected professionalism and respect, unfortunately, I received neither from the female manager that made the whole situation worse i left without getting my money back back for the coffee I did not get at the end. I wouldn’t come back if it wasn’t my convenient store right where I live and the rest of the staff had always been very friendly to me!

Very poor spare ribs

Bought spare ribs, they were pure fat, so bad I threw them out after one bite, and wouldn't even give them to my dogs in case they got sick. Would expect a lot better at the prices they charge.
