The process to get the car was good as was the return process but the cars was hopeless….

Cairns airport Oct. 2026. Needed a car to see the Daintree rain forest and the Mossman Gorge. Off airport location is 2 minute shuttle ride. Pick up shuttle at the Cairns airport was frequent.
Friendly staff, short line up and nice clean cars.
Got a CRV Hybrid 2 day rental , payed $50 extra per day for full insurance ( In Canada we drive on the right, good deal and playing it safe). We drove for 200 km and it cost $25 to top up fuel at the 7eleven on the highway.

Car was perfect for what we needed, the only issue we had was the tyre pressure light in the dash was on from about 10 mins after we picked it up. We put air in all the tyres (which it didnt need any) and we cleared it off the dash but kept coming back on. We didnt have time to come back and change the vehicle over so we just dealt with it the whole trip. The guy at checkout was great then the girl at checkin was a little rude h til she found out i use to be a manager for a different rental company. All in all it worked out well so thank you. One last thing the price was amazing so my family and i keep coming back because of that reason!

Terrible. Offered two filthy cars and a huge SUV with unfamiliar controls. Wouldn’t accept our extra cover through Booking.com and added A$400 threatening to charge A$40,000 should there be a claim. That can’t be true. Agent flounced when I disagreed. Now waiting for reimbursement on a tyre I had to pay for nine days ago. No response from them by email. Despicable behaviour. Go to East Coast Rentals they’re great.

The shuttle bus pick up was fine and quick. Car was great, pickup no problem.
The staff member lady was so rude upon returning the car, refused to assist with the shuttle bus and made us stand and 'wait and see if the man returnsand is still on shift and if not get an uber'. She said its not her problem and generally walked away everytime we asked her anything. So rude and a terrible drop off experience, huge wait to just drop off the car, over 30 minute just to hand keys over and be ignored. Then tried to contact you for the last week regarding the wallet left in the vehicle and had no response and nobody will put us through to cairns depot. Just wait and see if someone calls me is what I was told, overall not a great experience

1-star review – Extremely disappointing experience at Bargain Car Rentals in Cairns

Our experience with Bargain Car Rentals in Cairns was absolutely appalling. We have never been treated so disrespectfully by a car rental company.

When we arrived to collect our car, I realised that I had made a mistake when entering my name on the booking: I had used my married name instead of my maiden name. However, my passport clearly showed both names, and the staff member verbally acknowledged that he could see them.

Despite this, he refused to process our booking and treated us as if we were worth nothing. He put us aside and refused to help us, leaving us to sort everything out ourselves over the phone with DiscoverCars.

DiscoverCars confirmed that my married name was acceptable, and we even handed the phone to the staff member so he could speak directly with them. He still refused to cooperate, insisting that he needed an email confirmation.

After nearly TWO HOURS of waiting, he finally deigned to check whether the email had arrived.

Following a tense verbal exchange between my husband and the staff member, the situation took an even worse turn: the staff member refused to hand over the car and cancelled our rental contract himself. His manager was no more helpful.

A simple name discrepancy, which could have been resolved professionally and reasonably, turned into an absolute nightmare. We were left without the car we had booked, after wasting two hours trying to resolve an issue that DiscoverCars was willing to clarify.

The level of customer service we experienced was unacceptable. We felt humiliated, ignored and treated with complete contempt.

Based on our personal experience, we would strongly advise other travellers to think very carefully before booking with Bargain Car Rentals in Cairns. We certainly would never use this company again.

Tourists deserve to be treated with respect, not treated as an inconvenience once they arrive to collect a car they have booked and paid for.

My car wasn’t in great working order, (sluggish, like water in gas tank? And really dirt seats!)-though it got me through a 45 days. What I didn’t like as well was the big push for extra insurance that was very costly and of course I bought the bait out of fear. Happily didn’t need, but all said, there was some peace of mind there!

The car was awesome, the collection and delivery were easy and quick. I would have given 5 stars except the attitude of the lady who served me initially was a little unfriendly.

Great car and the agent actually took time to explain how the car worked eg helping to connect my phone and answered all my questions.

The staff were very helpful, polite and efficient, and the cat his price was very competitive.

Terrible experience. Would not recommended. It started our holiday with a bad taste in our mouth. After the major upselling for extra coverage incase of an accident or else we would be liable for the value of the car up to $25000, plus $100 a day when the car is out of use. What started off as a reasonable rental price almost double in cost.

Car seat filthy and unsafely fitted to car, terrible customer service when staff we asked to fix it, stating “most people don’t complain and just put up with it wobbling”, then proceeded to show alternative options with included broken car seats.

Car was ready when we arrived clean and in good condition. Service was very helpful and friendly
