At Barbara Cattle we offer an exclusive, expert service on antique jewellery, period and modern silver and new diamond and coloured gemstone luxury jewellery. Our York jewellers – part of the H. L. Brown group – is one of the best-known antique jewellers and silversmiths in the city. It has a fascinating history, being located a stone’s throw from the iconic York Minster. Barbara Cattle takes great pride in the high quality of its diamonds and coloured gemstones. A large proportion of these are individually, hand-picked and mounted by our company jewellers. Our range of modern silver holloware and gifts is extensive and is also manufactured by the UK's finest silversmiths. Barbara Cattle was established in the traditional Georgian premises on Stonegate in the mid-1960s and the business was acquired by the H. L. Brown Group of jewellers in 1969. Mrs Cattle came from a York-based family who was already well established in the antique silver trade. Her father, William Lee, was a substantial collector of silver and upon his death, left his impressive silver collection to the York Minster. The collection remains in the possession of the Minster to this day, displayed in the Treasury in the Undercroft.

Great experience purchasing a necklace at Barbara Cattle in York. Beautiful pieces of jewellery. Hal was fantastic, gave us lots of information and advice. Necklace was beautifully gift wrapped. Excellent service all round, would highly recommend.

I was visiting York for my Birthday and saw a ring I liked,The lady in the store was so helpful,They sent the ring to be sized for my fit and arranged for it to be sent to me.I received it packaged so nicely.Amazing service start to finish.Thank you so much

Great customer service & satisfaction
We visited a few Jewellery shops in York to buy a couple of Wedding Rings
The assistant in Barbara Cattle was the most interested in us & gave top class customer service.
He had many years experience in the industry which enabled us to make our selection.
We were so happy with the service we also bought a necklace c/w three accessories.
We are having the rings made to size so will collect them in a few weeks.

Excellent choice and customer care.
