Lack of confidence in this bank

Like previous reviewers money that was transfered to bankinter did not show in my account. When queried about this they could not give reason for this.
The amount in question was a refund from a transaction using bankinter credit card. They have now emailed a form to me to submit to the credit card department with this query for me to pursue. It is not for me to chase this up, but Bankinter. Waiting for a response.

In case you love seagulls and want a bank that resembles one

Terrible bank. Has repeatedly refused to close my account, unless I first fly down to southern Spain and visit the exact office I opened the account in. Has not answered questions about the account, including about outsanding fees. Simply ignored any questions, made it seem OK and let the interest multiply until eventually they sold the debt to some debt collector.
A real headache to get rid of. Feels good to leech euros off of more or less abducted customers I guess.

Absolutely disgusting I cannot give -10…

Absolutely disgusting I cannot give -10 stars one is the worst I can leave and that word in no way be close to my experience with them arrogant rude unhelpful, incompetent and much much worse. I got to the bank to do a bank transfer for a car purchase it was two minutes before closing. I live 50 minutes away. The man who works in the mid 30s just completely refused to see us and told us to return at 8:30 the next day so we arranged to meet the seller at my bank to do a direct transfer so that we could take the car Instantly we got there at 8:35 and the doors were locked. He came to the doors let us in to the first little booth where I think it is some kind of security entrance but would not let us into the bank we were kept standing inside there for about 20 minutes , no explanations were not very happy then once we were let into the bank we were told to sit down because they were not ready to see us. It was turned at 9 o’clock by this point. I went to the kiosk when I was called over. I took the lady who I was buying the car off. I told him it had to be an instant transfer. He told me that this was an instant transfer and that it would take approximately one hour to show up in her account. he filled in the paperwork and his writing was like a three year old completely illegible when we got to the ladies house to wait for the money to clear after about 1 1/2 hours. I had a phone call from the bank saying that the details don’t match on the account of the seller but when I looked at the paperwork he had written in completely the wrong details. It was his fault so we had done all that for absolutely nothing , we had made a deposit payment previously and because we had the bank details we did that over the phone needless to say the money never came we sat around in Villa Martin until 3 o’clock that afternoon so I jumped in the car and went over to the bank that we were told was open till 4:30 to find the bank was locked so I kept pressing on the buzzer because I could see lights on and a woman came out. I saw inside the man who had completely ruined the trend action run-off into the background and this little Rottweiler came out with a piece of paper would not let me into the bank refuse point blank contact the head office told me that that was up to me to do that I do forget sometimes these people are not aware that it is myself who pay their wages. They are there to represent you as a member of that Bank this woman was completely vile. Do not use them go to another bank. I am currently shopping around for somewhere else to put in our investments and savings because I wouldn’t trust this lot , to finance A Mars bar.

Banktinder keep sending me letters to…

Banktinder keep sending me letters to my address in the name of the previous occupier of my address. I have told them multiple times that they moved house 5 years ago and for the last 3 years plus, they have continued to send me letters. This is a breach of personal data. I wouldn't trust them with personal details as they will send letters to the wrong address containing personal and private information. Their customer service is rubbish and they ignore requests to stop sending incorrect letters

They steal money from your account - Retained payments double charged with non retained

Bankinter is double charging. The retained payments from shopping that has yet to arrive, is charged a second time from non retained amount.

On top of this, money returns from shopping have is not reflected on my bank account balance, while they are shown as effectuated.

They have stolen like this €1000 euros.

When you do many transactions their system either stops working properly or is rigged to steal with out you noticing.

Use revolut or BBVA

A night mare

A night mare. Bankinter blocked my visa card two months before it would expire for no reason with only one night of notice. Customer service told me I will get a new credit card, that was 15 days ago, not received it yet. Phoned my branch this morning, the lady was more than unfriendly. Try to find a better bank in my area.

It is a shame that 1 star is the lowest…

It is a shame that 1 star is the lowest rating because Bankinter genuinely merit a minus rating. I am an international travelling business man and have banked with Bankinter for over 20 years. Shocking does not describe this bank or their services, or lack of it. They virtually never reply to mails or care about client problems. they have locked my account twice in the past 5 years with no warning at all because they wanted some documents or other which had never been requested, they just lock the account and you have to find out when bills are not paid because the account runs dry. Inward payments are blocked but they keep these payments. When I called or emailed dozens of times from overseas they never answered. I had to get a legal rep from Spain to actually walk into the branch over there and try to rectify on my behalf. I wanted to close the account and move to another bank but I have not been in Spain long enough to be able to do that yet but I will. I have banked via business with several international banks and even in country's that are very back ward but Bankinter are absolutely the worlds worst and sadly really don't care don't even care. If you have a need to open a bank account in Spain DO NOT use this lot.

The worst bank in Spain

We have had a very bad experience with this bank. This year we lost my brother in law, and he had an account with the la marina branch. My other half had power of attorney will my brother in law was in hospital with terminal cancer we had to stop his account as an old girlfriend of his had got hold of his card and taken money from his account. That was the only thing that had been done properly. After he passed my other half was the only person to inherit. So now the problems start! They opened an account for him to have the balance transfered to him in an account there told us that it must be in an investment account. Monica was very happy with him to open this account ( first month lost 700euros) then it came to paying inheritance tax omg. It had all been sorted with the gesture how much to pay took the paper work to branch (2 hours drive from where we live) they said yes we will pay this, this never happened 2 weeks before the 6 months you have to pay the tax without charges were told by Monica that they weren't on the system to pay the tax. We went online and were able to transfer the amount to our own banks account(10 euros charge for transfer) and paid the tax, after which we went back to our .gestor to give her the receipt. We got a screaming phone call from Monica saying we had to return the money as it was against the law to take that money out, even though we could get into the account ourselves. Monica was incredibly rude to us, our gestor she had obviously mucked up as all of a sudden we couldn't get back into the account. We wanted to shut the account, can't do that in another branch but could transfer the money into our account at a charge of 140 euros, but had to go to the branch in la marina

ALL TOGETHER A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE AFTER MY BROTHER IN LAWS DEATH . THIS IS THE WORST BANK I HAVE EVER HAD TO DEAL WITH. RUDENESS, COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT
DONT STEP FOOT IN THIS DISGRACEFUL EXCUSE FOR A BANK. WHEN COMPLAINING TO THE MANAGER THE ONLY REPLY WAS WELL YOU CAN GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Sorry to say but NO STAR really

Sorry to say but NO STAR really. it’s their policy to shout & humiliate the old and sick couples. When they know that we are going back due to stroke. They talk over you to other customers who have investments with them. Very sad after banking with them for 17 years. All staff should be sent to London Banks to learn PR .
Still get nightmares and our blood pressure shot up.

Gave it a one star review because no stars was unavailable! Appalling treatment of clients. Unhelpful and rude staff, especially the director I dealt with called Alicia who said on the phone to me that she couldn´t help me as I was a bad client! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! They help NO ONE, only the clients that they like and suck up to. The Los Dolses branch is the worst EVER! Can't believe all the bad reviews I have read and the experiences people have had, the same as mine, and the same staff is still there...doesn't their superiors read the reviews and worry? Shocking.

I have a BankInter account but live in…

I have a BankInter account but live in the UK. They consistently fail to respond to emails & so far, 3 years following my father's passing they have failed to close his account. Their charges are very high & when I visit the branch when in Spain the queues are always long and the wait to be served is unacceptable. Avoid.

I actually dread going in to the bank…

I actually dread going in to the bank to do anything. The staff are abrupt and rude and talk down to you. I had a hold put on my account which the cashier announced to the whole bank instead of taking me to one side. When I asked about closing my account she just seemed really annoyed with me. Their charges are very high and their customer service is very poor. I have never come across a bank like this before. I will be closing my account, I actually came home in tears from the bank yesterday.

Incompentence

Got a letter from Bankinter threatening to block our account if my wife didnt provide confidential information on her that they apparently didnt have. Spent 40 mins on the phone to customer services a week or so ago sorting it out and were assured everything was fine now. Received a letter this morning telling me our bank account is now blocked. Utterly incompetent.

Absolutely the worst bank in Spain

Absolutely the worst bank in Spain. We have lived here for 11 years and the current experience with Bankinter is so infuriating and ridiculous that's it's laughable. Long story short...

- Three seperate frauds on our account in three months
- Four attempted deliveries of new cards, all unsuccessful
- Hours and hours spent on the phone, mostly futile attempts to speak to someone in seniority.
- Over 20 double transactions taken out of our account in the last few months, and many not rectified.

Can't wait to pay off our mortgage with them next month and take our business elsewhere.

Xenophobic treatment of UK residents

Xenophobic treatment of UK residents. PLEASE do not join this bank. Clearly the senior management of this business do not care or they would instigate change and respond to these overwhelming appalling reviews. Los Dolses branch is particularly appalling.

Bad bank communications

Sold our apartment, paid all our service charges & gains tax. Before leaving Portugal we went to Bankinter to explain we were selling and returning to the U.K. and the Bank advised just to email them to close the account which we did, many emails later with no response Bankinter have now added their own charges to put our account to being overdrawn by €19.00. Sent a letter tracked & to be signed for but the bank refused to take the letter. This is not a good experience.

Absolutely clueless.. or worse?

Absolutely clueless, if not deliberately misleading. I think both.
I opened my account at Los Dolces nearly 3 years ago having 'sacked' Sabadell for being the worst bank I had ever had association with. I have to say, Bankinter is worse. Sabadell's biggest 'crime' was its terminal apathy. But I realise now -in full, rude colour- that 'terminal apathy' is endemic across Spain's entire banking network.. Who knows why but it is. I have since heard similar stories of both incompetence & even apparent wilful deceit from other banks, most recently Kaiser.

Back at Bankinter, Los Dolces & it was all smiles on 'signing day' & none of the typical 30 to 45 minute wait in a queue as one-teller-deals-all & others sit elsewhere pretendíng they are too busy to assist. (Previous review refers to how the charm offensive faded as my signatures dried.)

Immediately after having signed with this lot I was informed that I would need to keep a minimum of €2000 in my account in order to avoid further banking fees. By immediately I mean the very next day when I visited due to app issues. Yep, I was in the queue then. And thereafter.
And so, like the idiot who believed his bank was telling the truth, I complied without fail from that point. I considered it sharp practice to be told retrospectively but... I was signed up by then, wasn't I & so this fool had to bite the bullet.
What choice anyway?

Today, 3 years later, I join the usual queue to register my renewed passport with them, so as to try to pre-empt officious id queries at some point in the future.
In passing, I asked if I am still required to keep €2000 minimum in my account.
Initially, the guy with the ponytail (pleasant enough chap; no complaints there) stated I don't need to be anything other than in credit, sufficient for my direct debits to be transacted appropriately.
I advised him I had been told this near enough immediately after signing, albeit verbally and -perhaps conspicuously now I think about it- I never saw that in writing.
He said he was.. 'new & I might be right.' Crikey! Did he miss the training? Was there any?
Honestly, I am not making this up.
I asked him to check.
There was a pause as he looked at his computer and after a while he said he had just contacted Head Office -I didn't see much typing to be honest- & they had confirmed I am in fact.. correct after all.
At this point the lady to his left stated that, no, I do NOT need to keep €2000 minimum in the account.
I asked why I had ever been told that.

It's pathetic, really. Dangerously incompetent & not something any UK bank would ever likely be involved in.

Meantime, of course, Bankinter managed to have access to €2000 from just this one customer, whenever it suited them, interest free, while I have spent the last 3 years like the village idiot exchanging currency which at times was inevitably at an unfavourable rate, to comply with this fake rule. Was it a blatent lie all that time ago? I am sad to say that it does beg the question.

Two years ago, I sent a separate complaint concerning poor service. Emails being consistently ignored, even when finally FAO the (new) Branch Manageress. It was sent from UK as a 'Signed For' document, at not inconsiderable cost. I received the usual confirmation from Royal Mail that it had arrived & I had an image-copy of the scanned in-branch signature.

I received no reply even to this.

A short while later, I arrived in Spain & managed to see the manageress walking through which was fortuitous because it is surely a fair presumption that there would have been no chance she would have granted me an audience with any warning of what it was about.
I showed her the scanned image of the in-branch signature provided by Royal Mail proving it had arrived & asked why she had (still) not replied.

The woman denied ever receiving it.

I suggested she investigate who the signature belonged to.

She refused. (WHY?)

She also refused to even credit me for the pointless sending of the document and complaint in the first place. That, against the overwhelming evidence that my paperwork & attached complaint got to this woman's branch.

In the UK that would be taken deadly seriously & it would -incontravertably- have been urgently, fully investigated to a conclusion. There is little doubt, staff would have been sacked for incompetence if not 'wilful mishandling.' The lack of integrity if not some cynical form of actual corruption (by one or more employees in this example) would have been a red flag at any UK bank.

But this is Spain, isn't it?

My bank in UK is First Direct. I have been with them since April 1993.

There is only one reason for that.

They are efficient, competent & it goes without saying, actually, there is not the vaguest whiff of corruption or other malpractice.

Not so in Spain, sadly.
Not so at all.

I INVITE A REPLY FROM BANKINTER (As if!)
