One of my favorite things is the ability to skip pages/screens in most exercises. In other apps things start feeling repetitive for me, and appreciate the ability to tell the app when I feel that, without too much judgement.
What I would like to see in the app:
1. An option to use keyboard input when you need to organize letters for an answer. It can get really annoying to choose letters when the word is big
2. An option to choose font size for certain things, mainly the letter choosing part
3. A way to see which languages you are actively learning, and your progress in each in a centralized place. And to be able to choose language not from the settings menu (it feels very unintuitive).

I signed up to Babbel today for membership for the full year. This is to explain why this provider was chosen above others. To begin with I checked out reviews, and these were way more positive than for other providers, always a good sign. Secondly, they offer sample lessons, to try before you buy, so you get a good idea of the resources available, which many providers don't do. Thirdly, I asked a series of questions about the services being offered online, and quickly received polite and professional responses to my questions, in a timely fashion, so again a good sign, as the company is easy to contact and responds speedily to questions. In addition, Babbel offer a choice of varied languages which other providers do not do, and I have chosen to learn Dutch. I have tried out the lessons and found them a good structure with lots of audio to ascertain correct pronunciation and vocabulary. So far I am very impressed by this professional service provider. Another review will be written following a year and when my subscription is for renewal, but this one is simply to outline why this one has proved to be a good choice so far.

The course is fantastic and as a retired Lecturer/ Teacher with 35 yrs experience ; it is without doubt one of the best courses I have ever undertaken . Its clear explanation of grammar and its use of it, in a contextual setting is excellent. Facilitating rapid progress and an enjoyable learning experience This contrasts with Duolingo which I abandoned due to a lack of clarity, progress and frustration. I cannot recommend this course highly enough. A well deserved 5 stars!!!!!!

Seem to be struggling. It would be nice to be able to contact someone as it is probably me using the site incorrectly. Could do with some personal guidance ....

I am a fairly ancient user so my learning experience is couched in many years of studying languages. I find Babbel very easy to use and from what I can see it offers a wealth of things to cover and study. I like the fact that it incorporates grammar points as you go along to refresh your memory. I don’t think it is as good at the speaking part as others or perhaps I haven’t reached that part yet. I have tried other apps which concentrate on speaking but find that they have too many bugs and are a complete waste of time. No names no pack drill!

Probably best suited to those already a little way into their target language. Had to go elsewhere to master numbering, for example. It annoys me that I don't find all the possibilities from my tablet on the laptop. The real voices are good. Voice recognition is worthwhile , but would be more helpful with feedback on where a problem lies within a phrase when there is a fail.

Reply from Babbel
The voices are real not cartoonist . The review weak-medium-strong i good
I’ve learned a lot with Babbel, supported by other content like easy-read novels, podcasts, light news, children's stories, music.
Major comments on Babbel:
1. Inability to do a search for a learned phrase or word in vocab’
2. No new material added in the several years of using the app
3. No sign of live conversations for minority languages (eg Swedish, in my case)
4. More of the interactive games would be a good addition
EDIT, after initial response from Babbel:
The reply below does not respect my suggestions at all. I am very aware of the different tools offered but the search feature I am asking for is to FIND something from a SEARCH in the vocabulary. The reviews are generated I assume by some algorithm (eg randomly or according to how well I’ve committed them to memory/learnt a rule). They are helpful, I use them everyday.
Please do not patronise me by asking for feedback and then using it to present your, now ageing, features and benefits. I have been around the sales and marketing block too many times to be taken in. Sadly, what this demonstrates is a lack of customer responsiveness and will eventually lead to you being overtaken by a competitor or two. Meanwhile you just lost a star in the rating.

I do not recommend Babbel unless you make sure when you want to discontinue your subscription that you make them very aware and get proof before they keep charging you every year which is what happened to me. I sent an email but they ignored it for two years. I was charged for something that I didn’t even use in the first place so that was three years of charges the last one being today. I contacted them and in no way shape or form were they going to refund me even though it was just charged. I was very adamant about the fact that I had canceled and honestly I never used it once which they’re able to see that I had not logged on but they don’t care. Who cares if Babbel is supposed to be good for languages, the fact that they’re shady on their subscription system is a huge problem because it’s an over all view of what this company is like. They could refund my $80 I’m only asking for the last charge even though I was charged last year as well but they’re offering to give me a coupon that I could give to someone?? My family is French and everyone is fluent except me so there’s no one for me to give it to. But that’s beside the point, I didn’t ask for the last two years to be refunded, just this year, they don’t notify you in advance that they’re going to charge your card and that’s also a problem and very shady in my opinion. So beware
Update after Babbel’s response: Babbel has refunded me for this year, 2026 and I really appreciate it. I did have to go to the extreme to get my money back but I am happy that it was refunded. Thank you

I'm still enjoying it! And beginning to recognise words now! I'm finding difficulty in speaking it though! .
Sometimes it moves too quickly for me as hadn't had time to read it through before it moves on! I do find Spanish pronunciation quite hard!!

Reply from Babbel
it is a very good way to learn a new language, thank you
Only thing that i dislike is that not always are nouns thought with definitive article, thats really pain. I want to memorize a noun with an article right away

I think Babbel is great. It is fun without making learning too 'gamey'. You feel like you're actually learning real world helpful information and phrases.
I would like to be able to see lists of verbs etc that I've covered, and review flashcards anytime I want, but that's the only thing.

I think Babbel is good, it stretches you and isn’t always easy. Compared to another app I am using for a different language. I think it is more thorough and reliable. I will give the other one up at the end of the year.
I will certainly continue my subscription with Bible

More grammar in the grammar guide would be great

I like the possibility to pay for a lifelong subscription
I like the available courses in many languages.
I would like more support for Dutch speakers who want to learn German. The course I follow is based on English speakers who want to speak German.

I enjoy Babbel very much. An excellent course.
It has given me the confidence to engage in conversations with my Spanish friends and neighbours. Which years of other courses did not.
I would like to see more grammar built in to the course.
That is the only reason I gave Babbel 4 stars rather than 5.

Enjoying this language app. Compared with lots of others, this is the most adult and comprehensive we’ve tried. And learning Spanish it is giving European and Latin American variations. Actually took out a lifetime subscription, but do the trial first and wait for a reduced offer before buying.

I like the structured approach but would appreciate more information on the grammatical points.

My experience isn''t great. As a Level B2 there are insufficient B2 and C1 exercises and now I have finished them the App keeps taking me back to the A1 grammar exercises, because I haven't done them.
