I am a fully qualified dog trainer/behaviourist with over 16 years experience. My sessions take place in the comfort of your own home where I will make a full observational and practical assessment of your dog and put together a plan specifically tailored for your pet to prevent unwanted behaviours. Unfortunately not all behavioural problems can be helped with standard obedience techniques which is something I discovered through working with hundreds of dogs of varying behavioural issues over the years. quite simply put, a dog can perform every trick in the book but might still have aggression around food for example or be reactive towards other dogs. Here at Back to Balance the driving force behind these issues will be identified and with simple daily changes to how you interact with your dog on a day to day basis will be resolved. My method of working with dogs is in no way detrimental to your pets mental or physical wellbeing and as such does not involve the use of electric shock collars, prong collars etc. A large part of my work revolves around shaping your dogs behaviour, or in other words help them to figure out for themselves what it is you are asking of them. This is a much more natural way of working with dogs and helps you to communicate with your pet on a level that they understand.

Aaron arrived to assess our two dogs our Dachshund George and Elvis the Cockapoo .
He was very knowledgeable and helpful.
We've seen great improvements already and it's only day two !
He has shown us that it is possible to change our dogs behaviour with the direction he gave us and with consistency on our part.
Worth every penny to have two happier dogs and a stress free house !

My partner and I were amazed to see a change in Bonnie's (11 month old rescue crossbreed) behaviour just a couple hours into Azz's visit. We both learnt alot about dogs in general, but most importantly why Bonnie was showing particular behaviours and how we can help her. Azz has a tremendous amount of knowledge and you can really tell it is his passion and he knows what he is talking about. We are only a week into making the changes advised by Azz but we can really see a shift in her behaviour and becoming more relaxed and less dominant.
Also really nice to know he is at the end of the phone if we need him. Can recommend Azz at back to balance highly.

When Aaron came to see me and my dog “Buddy” I was at my wits end. In fact I had already booked an appointment with the Dogs Trust to move him on, albeit very reluctantly :(
He was a re-home and his last owners hadn’t been truly honest about his behaviour. While a gorgeously loving dog, he also had / has some big issues including major separation anxiety which I was struggling to deal with.
However, In the space of a few hours Aaron took me from being about to pull the plug to deciding that I will put in whatever it takes to see my dog truly happy and content again (especially on his own). I couldn’t bare for him to go now! But he didn’t do this by pushing me, he simply showed me what was possible even in an afternoon. Aaron is incredible; a bonafide dog whisperer!
He has shown me a completely different way to communicate with Buddy. (Like a dog rather than a human - bonkers we all expect dogs to speak our language!). I can now communicate with Buddy in a way that means I can remain peaceful even when in really tough situations with him - where is really playing up!
It is still taking practice, and will take some time yet. But I’m enjoying learning and practicing what Aaron has taught me, as opposed to before feeling in a downward spiral wondering “What have I done?!”
Aaron has given me both the tools and the faith I so desperately needed. And after practicing what he has taught me I feel he will have brought me many years of happy dog ownership ahead.
Thank you so much Aaron!

It was an eye opener in understand the psychology of a dog. Az was really helpful, he took his time and didn't rush at all. It was well worth it and we are already starting seeing some benefits in such a short period of time.

Aaron was just amazing! We needed help with our dog because he started to nip us. Aaron came in and really helped us understand how our dog was feeling and showed us what we needed to do to stop this happening. We noticed a change in our dog even when Aaron was still with us. Aaron continues to support us with our dog and keeps in contact over phone to make sure everything is going in the right direction.

I would not hesitate to recommend Azz if you are having problems with your dog, however, you will need to be prepared to hear a few home truths, and be willing to make changes in your own behaviour before you see changes in your dog. He’s highly knowledgeable and professional, and understood my dog within minutes of meeting her. Azz explained canine psychology so that we could understand where WE were going wrong with her and why she was anxious. Additionally, Azz showed me how to get my 18 month old Spinone walking nicely on a lead within a few minutes, and a month on, her recall has also massively improved as she now knows who’s boss! If your dog’s behaviour is stressing you out, contact Azz as I have no doubt that he will be able to help you.

Azz spent the good part of a day with us and our miniature schnauzer, Tony. He was both patient and constructive with his feedback in how to deal with Tony's fearful nature.
Azz left us with a number of tools and although it's only been a week, we have began to notice a serious shift in Tony's behaviour.
Highly recommended.

Azz gave me such an insight into dog behaviour, he is amazing and already I am seeing results 👏 He never stopped assessing the situation with my 3 dogs as we talked, pointing out so many behaviours and what they mean.. there is only one boss and that’s ME! Now I can see clearly what I need to be in order to restore peace between them all! Thank you Azz

We have a 9 year old Italian Spinone with reactive issues, particularly towards certain dogs, around food and door bells. Azz was extremely informative and knowledgeable and explained how we could help him overcome his issues and not pass his unwanted behaviour onto our 18 month old Spinone. It is early days but we can see things are starting to improve already, he appears so much calmer generally and we feel we understand our dogs behaviour much better. Azz has also sent pointers via email to refer to if needed. We would highly recommend Azz to anyone who is having problems with their dog, his understanding of canine behaviour is amazing.

Azz was really friendly, informative, and helpful. He was great at going over all the details and reasoning behind his methods which helped it to all make sense. We’ve noticed a small improvement in one of our dogs after only one day which is great. We’re looking forward to seeing where we are in a couple of months!

Aaron Rainey made an assessment of my dog for a police enquiry. He was totally professional, objective, and truthful. He spent four hours explaining dog behaviour to me, and watching and testing my dog's behaviour. I was overwhelmed by his insight into dog behaviour and also into human mistakes in understanding, and dealing with our pets. His report was comprehensive, lucid, and showed real, fundamental understanding, both of dogs, and humans. I was deeply impressed by his sympathetic insight, and firmness in explaining how I should train and exercise my dog with firmness and kindness.

Azz was absolutely fantastic, he explained everything brilliantly and had our 16 month Labrador and us correcting the things we needed to put right to achieve a better life for all of us.
My family would highly recommend Azz to anyone.

We have a 1yr old male staff cross mastiff with reactive issues particularly towards other dogs but not limited to, he also dislikes bikes, pushchairs and shopping trolleys to name a few. Aaz was a great help, he sat with us and chatted whilst watching our dog boss us around successfully without us even being aware. Azz spent 6hrs with us and by the end of the afternoon we'd managed a walk around the park with lots of other dogs present. There was a little bit of fuss but nothing like what we normally face and he improved with every dog we saw. We're working hard to keep with the program and it's a day by day thing for us, some days we can get past without a peep, other days he can't. I'm sure with consistency and perseverance we will get there. I really would recommend Azz to anyone who is struggling with their dog, he's very knowledgeable and informative. We saw instant results and feel we understand our dogs behaviour better now.

Thank you so much for your help and guidance. We have a Rotweiller 23 months old. She had been developing behavioral issues and started to become more and more reactive to other dogs. We were doing many wrong things that meant the dog was left stressed, we now know so much and she is a changed dog and our relationship with her more healthy. She is so much calmer and really now relaxes. We have work to do sustaining the changes and our new lessons and are so very grateful for the visit. We should have had you around 6 months ago. I highly recommend this service and I will be recommending you to some people I know with similar issues.

Az was professional but empathetic from start to finish, he spent around 5 hours at our home and this is what we really appreciated the most, other behaviourists I had enquired with said it would be 1.5 - 2 hours and we just knew this wouldn’t be enough to actually make impact, az had no time limits on his visit and stayed as long as it needed until we had a plan with our dog Hugo and talked everything through, his knowledge on dog behaviour was just impeccable and he has given us so much hope and reassurance that we can turn our dogs behaviour around with really simple changes, I also really appreciated the follow up he sent us in a thorough email with all the steps he asked us to take with Hugo in detail so we could go back to it whilst we implement our training. Az has also checked in since and we know he will get back to us very quickly if we needed any further support! A fantastic service couldn’t recommend enough!

From beginning to end Azz was informative, knowledgeable and very professional. He explained how we could help our anxious GSD to trust us and how to help her to overcome her issues. Azz gave us confidence and tools to work on and on his second visit he could see improvements. He clearly cares and understands dogs behaviour which has helped us immensely changing our girl into a much happier, more relaxed dog. Would highly recommend.

From the off Azz's calm and methodical approach gave us confidence in the process. He gave detailed and well thought out guidance and context which connected the dots and made things click. The progress we saw so quickly around lead walking, doorbell reactions and detachment was astounding. After awful experience with trainers, behaviourists are clearly the way to go. Couldn't recommend Azz more.
