Never again.

On September 24th 2025 we went to Scandic hotel in Wroclaw and asked for a van to be rent, as we were six people traveling for one day to Czech Republic. The older guy told us there were not any van available in a very unpolite way, while the younger one tried to help. In the evening we made a reservation through the Avis website! So, the day after we picked up the van at Scandic hotel, in the same face of the older guy who even did not ask for any sorry for his behaviour the day before. I paid the full rate plus a deposit by card. Surprisingly, I was charged 10€ two weeks later! Tried to contact Avis Polska but the three email addresses returned an error. NEVER AGAIN.

Mediocre experience

The lady at the desk in Krakow was very helpful and nice - no complaint there
But we got a car that was smoked in. Not ideal while travelling with two toddlers and a pregnant woman. When I reported it I just got an info back that they’ll investigate as it should have not happened.

And got charged 15€ for missing fuel - I filled the car not more than 5km before the return at the airport. Let me mention that it was the last gas station. So all in all mediocre service at best.

Terrible service in Poland

Terrible AVIS service in Poland. Ghost company- noone of the phone numbers on the website get answered quicker than within 10 minutes! None, not a single time I called. They also ddin't respond to my email for a week. I called, the lady told me to hold and never came back. I hang up after 10 minutes. And now I'm in the phone queue again. And the reason I'm, trying to get hold of them is to get my refund bac, which they have been withholding for three weeks now. Avis - never again!

Documented fraud company

Returned a un-damaged car, refuelled and shot 24 images.key in key drop
Later got a damage report for 300 euro and 10 euro for fuel, even I got fuel receipt and image of an undamaged car at return in airport with date and time.
Customer says everyone can manipulate images and they charge me anyway.! ( They use images as documentation them selves, and no damage can be seen on damage report)
Just issued a fraud allegation at the polish police !

STAY AWAY FROM THOSE THIEVES!!!
I have been renting cars for many years - always from Hertz and never ever had a bad experience.
Only once used avis at the Chopin Airport in Warsaw and got cheated. I received an involce for repairs on damage I had not done 4 months after the car was rented! this is completly unacceptable.

Avis Faro airport rip off

Beware the upgrade scam Avis Faro Airport !!!
We booked a Ford Focus estate through Avis at Faro airport via Jet2 car hire in June.
Paid £302 for three weeks. When we arrived to collect the car. I wanted to add my brother in law on the insurance for the first 8 days. It would cost an extra €13 per day or we could upgrade for €80 and he would be included in that price. No brainer so we thought.
Got the invoice through on our return and been charged an extra €288 all for stuff that as included when booking through Jet2 such as recovery, surcharges, road find licence etc the list is endless !!
Disputed the Payments with Avis and they are defending these charges and say that I signed to accept them. The charges weren't explained at the hire desk. Why would I agree to pay nearly twice the amount for the car !!
Jet2 are chasing this up with Avis but I'm not holding my breath.
Been hiring cars for the past 7 years from Faro airport with other companies and never had these issues before. Will never use Avis ever again

Beware of AVIS Lisbon Airport

We had booked a car in advance and did not need a GPS as we brought our own. Going through the normal tedious paper work and questions regardingiInsurance, we could collect our car. Examining the outside and noticing every minor scratch took a lot of time, while checking the interior functions were completely disregarded. Being a long way from Lisbon, we noticed that the GPS was not charging and when approaching Lagos, Algarve the GPS as well as outside was completely dark. After a lot of stress, telephone calls and several requests a long the road we finally arrived at our hotel less than 5 minutes before the recption closed. After this start we cancelled our plans of trips around the Algarve coast and walked in the surroundings in stead of using the car. Eventually we found an AVIS office in Lagos and they were very friendly, helpful and understanding. However they had no car available till it was time to leave for home. When returning the car at Lisbon Airport, AVIS showed no interest what so ever regarding the non-functioning lighter = charger. Fuel and scratches were checked - nothing else. For complaints we had to go the main office. After some discussions and waiting time, we received no excuse but as compensation did not have to pay the refueling. However regarding the missing function in the car and our affected holiday, there was no interest and probably a new customer already had rented the same car without repair, when we left the AVIS office. The two stars are due to AVIS Lagos office, without the staff there, the results had been zero!
