Rented a car from Avance Athens Airport this week and found the team to be very professional, courteous and completed the paper quickly. We had rented another car from a company that had gone bankrupt, and they were able to supply us a car at the last minute. Returning the car the team dealt with an issue as we had been rear ended in a traffic jam. They dealt with it very professionally and reduced our stress levels - thank you.

No car and not refund
I booked a car from this company in Lesvos last year via Discovery cars. I mistakenly booked it to be collected 24 hours earlier than I needed it. I am a single mum and I work full time so I am constantly frazzled. Plus I am menopausal so these kinds of mistakes are common in my situation. When I arrived at 10:30 at night there was no car as they said I had breached my contract. I was told I would get a refund at the time, but when I emailed to find out about this they refused to give me a refund. I then had to hire a taxi at vast expense and hire another car also at vast expense. The issue I have is that they rented the car to someone else, so not out of pocket at all. So why no refund. This is an absolute disgrace. I did finally get a refund of 120 Euros, built given I paid £500 this was not really good enough. Never use this company again. Warning to others. Steer clear. They are not a local firm, they are just like all the other Car hire companies that are out to rinse you.

I have booked cars from Avance on Kos on multiple occasions over the past few years. There was never a problem, they always tried to take into account specific requirements that I had. All staff members I dealt with were really nice and willing to help. My preferred supplier on Kos.

Don’t be fooled by their cheaper prices. It will end up costing you more in terrible service and hidden charges. They will slug you an exorbitant amount for the smallest scratch and they’ll hide behind their fine print. Theives. Don’t risk it.

Laughably bad service.
One star review for the laughably bad Avance customer service at the airport department.
First of all they sent us to the wrong parking to receive the car. After waiting 30 minutes we called them and the same person told us that we are at the wrong place. Even though we went to the one we were told.
A car picked us up for a drive to their big parking with all their cars and then they took us back to the spot we were waiting for half an hour.
The person who took us there didn't even know which parking is which. They said wait at parking 6 right there. Even though the parking he showed us was 4.
How can you work in the parking spaces around the airport and not being able to tell which parking is which?
Of course we found it ourselves after we found the actual parking 6.
Just laughable customer service. We lost an hour waiting for them to figure out where to go and they work there.

After arriving at the rental desk, my partner and I were greeted by friendly smiles from the Avance team. They were all incredibly helpful and made the process of renting a car both simple and efficient. Our car was in perfect condition and suited all of our needs throughout our holiday. Returning a car after 2.5 days, in a decent state, and then being charged 25 euro for "extra cleaning" is just ripping off customers.

AVOID AT ALL COST!
I booked with Economy Car Rentals / Avance in good time before I came to Crete. I had informed them of my flight numbers and arrival times. Unfortunately we was told at Gatwick airport that Herikian airport had to close for emergency repairs. Our plane was diverted to another airport on the island.
We tried calling ECR several times at Gatwick of the change but no answer. Concerned there was no response we then emailed them of the change.
No response.
When we finally arrived at 5am the place was closed.I managed to talk to someone who told me I would have to wait until they open in the morning and it was tough.
This left us abandoned with 3 children at the airport with no transport.
ECR Avanve did not even know that the airport had closed the runways even thought they are based there??. We made every effort to contact them but they did not respond.
When I finally get through I am told it was my fault as I never contacted them? ECR / Avanve have kept the deposit and to this day I still do not have a car. Sadly I have had to contact my bank to retrieve the money.
They have now taken the professional stance of ignoring my emails and not fixing the issue. Very professional….
ECR / Avanve had all of my flight details did not respond to calls or emails.
ECR / Avanve are not a family friendly company that left us abandoned with children and could not be bothered to address or fix.
My advice to anyone thinking about booking with ECR ir Avanvce is DONT! Go for a reliable firm (Avis etc) and not a cowboy firm like this one.

Terrible service
We rented a car in Athens airport. Received Peugeot 301 that was 3 years old and felt like 30 years old. In a few days we could not start the car when being in Pelion region. We contacted the company (when you call them you are asked to press 9 for English and after a long wait you got a person who does not speak English) and they asked to call Road assistance. After 4 hours and several calls the guy that arrived started the car with the cables, told us that the battery is dead, but he won't change the battery and we are on our own. We contacted Avance again and the girl that answered told us that we have to find workshop and change the battery ourselves. Now - it is 8 pm, the car is running but the battery is dead, all car workshops in the area work till 5 pm. We are in some remote village and the temperature is 40 degrees. After I complained to Avance about this impossible situation the representative asked if I expect her to come from the Athens to fix my car by herself. That was the worst service I received ever

I would not recommend this car rental to anyone as they try to rip you off somehow. I booked my vehicle with a 'Full insurance package' ( I knew the excess of £500). Still, when I picked the car, they told me I had only third-party insurance, so I paid an additional €110 to get the comprehensive cover. When I queried about this, they answered that the website ( Carflexi) I booked had not given the correct information and had nothing to do with them. Also, when I dropped the car, the guy at Avance was trying to charge me more for not having the same fuel level. Still, luckily I had a picture taken of the fuel level when I picked the car. If I had not had that, I would have ended up paying more money. I also felt they would have found something with the car to charge me extra if I had not paid that additional money to get the comprehensive insurance. In total, I had to pay £432 for five days, and also they charged another 10 euros for car delivery which I was unaware of.

Just finished a trip to Greece. 12 days in Paros and 6 days in Zakinthos. Rented from Avance both times. Reserved the cars in advance and everything went seamlessly except for a flat tire on Paros. Highly recommended for ease of booking, good prices and newer cars.
