It was a great car buy experience. Let me start with the website. It was very good in pointing out the details of the car including the tech and any flaws. My experience with Autohero: False promises, delayed deposit refunds, and serious technical issues

I am extremely disappointed with the service provided by Autohero and would like to share my negative experience. I purchased a Volkswagen Passat Alltrack through Autohero in early February 2024 and had to leave a significant amount as a deposit. According to the terms, the company was supposed to refund this deposit immediately after I provided all the necessary documents confirming the receipt of the vehicle. However, the reality turned out to be quite different.

Despite completing the transaction in early February, the refund of my deposit was not processed until early April 2024—two months after I had fulfilled all my obligations. During this time, Autohero’s employees kept feeding me promises and excuses. First, they claimed that the money had been sent, but for some reason, the payment was rejected by the bank. Then they asked me to confirm my bank details again, even though I had already provided them several times. Then they assured me that the problem would be resolved soon, but no real action followed.

What was particularly outrageous was receiving fake payment confirmations from Autohero, which turned out to be nothing but fiction. This behavior raises serious doubts about the honesty and competence of the company. Every time I demanded my money back, I encountered ridiculous excuses and outright lies.

Moreover, after receiving the car, I encountered serious issues that had been hidden from me:

Engine problems: From the first day, the engine exhibited strange noises and unstable RPMs, leading to a "Check Engine" warning light shortly after driving. These issues clearly indicate significant engine problems that were not disclosed at the time of purchase.

Interior damage: The car’s interior was also damaged, with a heavily scratched rear shelf, a damaged headrest, and a hole in the driver’s mat—none of which were mentioned in the original listing. These damages were hidden from the buyer and should have been disclosed.

These serious defects and damages were not mentioned during the sale, indicating poor quality control on Autohero’s part. In the end, I received a car that did not meet the stated standards, either in terms of technical condition or appearance.

Furthermore, I got the impression that Autohero might benefit from delaying the return of deposit funds. Considering that the company operates through multiple branches across Europe and is also part of a larger group of companies that includes the Auto1.com auction platform, the financial gain from holding onto thousands, if not tens of thousands of deposits for two months could be significant. By earning interest on these deposits, which are 25% of the vehicle’s value (equivalent to the Swedish VAT), Autohero could be making a considerable profit while these funds remain in their accounts. This further raises concerns about Autohero’s integrity.

Autohero not only failed to refund my deposit promptly but also sold me a vehicle with obvious technical defects. I strongly advise against doing business with this company. Their unprofessionalism, dishonesty, and inability to fulfill their obligations can result in serious problems and financial losses for you.

I purchased a Volvo V40 T3 from Autohero last September and had it delivered to my home in Ljungby. The car arrived in perfect condition, clean and well-maintained. After a year of driving, I’m thrilled with my purchase and couldn’t be more satisfied with Autohero. The buying process was incredibly smooth, even easier than shopping for clothes! So far, best experince in buying a used car ever had.
Efstathios helped me in finding a good deal on a used Audi A3,
also helped in the aftersale with some missing papers. Efstathios managed to get a fix that wasn't listed in the ad on their website and fixed for me a service oil for the gearbox as it almost due time. Bought the extra warranty for the peace of mind, it seems to be already paying of after 1000 km. Car had an issue with a rear caliper after standing for long time, got to afiliated workshop, got quoted and repaired with Autohero covering for the costs without any issues.

I appreciate their help and I give them 4starts because this could have been avoided if the car comes in a good state and I don’t have to fight my way to get the refunds.

Here are the faults that we had:
1. The car came with an empty coolant tank and they don't take charge for this.
2. We agreed that it will come with a full tank and it was empty.
3. The service that was described on the website was not done and it doesn't appear in the serivebook. When I ask for the receipt or proof they cannot provide.

Long story:
We bought a car from them ... Communication was good and everything went well UNTIL the car arrived and I noticed that it was not in the shape how it was presented. Since then they are just transferring me to different departments and blame each other for the faults.
First of all the coolant tank was completely empty. I reached out to them and they told me to buy coolant, fill it up and book a check-up. I did it but even though it was just some spots under the car at the beginning I still had to take it to the service to make sure there are no major faults. At the service they said there is no fault they could detect. They are refusing to pay for the service fee because the service couldn't detect any leaks. This is absolutely ridiculous, I had to waste my time to take the car because they cannot deliver it in a proper condition.
On top of all they claim that they did a service which is completely undocumented and when I ask for proof they are telling me that they will get back to me or that they cannot provide anything because it was done in their internal service. This company is completely ridiculous and after they sold you the car they don't care anymore and they will try to just shut you off with some ridiculous reasons. Unbelievable that I have to follow up for their mistakes on my own cost.
The only thing they took charge for was the empty diesel tank. They transferred the amount for the fuel.

If you want to save yourself some time and stress just ignore them since the very beginning and buy your car from other dealers. Shame on you scammers!

Everything was perfect. I felt really comfortable. As foreign, I had no problem with the language, they supported me easily. From the beginning I received constantly clear guiding information. The delivery has been simply perfect. I have been contacted also after to confirm the quality of my expeience. I already recommend Autohero to all people I can. By the way I feel really satisfied about the car!

Had a great experience both selling my previous car and buying a new one from Auto Hero. It's been a couple of weeks now, the car is great and the service has also been great. Always friendly staff on the phone and also the guy that delivered the car is very nice.
I bought a car and found out within the first few days it was lacking some options that i really wanted, so i traded it in for another within the allowed time. Everything was handled very nicely and smoothly, i even received the cars before the expected delivery date. My new car was missing the car jack and they kindly refunded me the money needed to buy a simple jack. Other questions have all been handled professionally.
Overall very happy with the experience, would totally recommend to those who are still in doubt.
