Hughes Autoformers Excellent Service

Hughes Autoformers provided immediate assistance with my watchdog issue. I have a Keystone Sprinter 40ft 5th wheel and I purchased my 50 amp watchdog at the same time with my rig about 5 years ago. I have had excellent performance from the watchdog over the years that has saved my electronics several times. Recently an ice storm moved across the US and even in Florida we had temps in the low 20’s. My watchdog ultimately failed and melted the plug on the unit. I emailed Hughes Autoformers and Ian responded immediately and after a few questions and pictures determined my unit needed to be replaced. He sent that out to me right away with a return label for the old unit. I am very grateful for this company and the sound mind of knowing my rig is being protected by watchdog. I recommend the watchdog to anyone with an RV to protect.

Plug is not protected from rain

The Power Watchdog is much longer than my previous surge protector. It's so long that it lays on the ground when plugged in. I called Hughes for suggestions on preventing rainwater from causing an electrical problem. They offered two suggestions: elevate the plug or wrap it in a tarp. I asked if I could return the unit but was told I could not because it was beyond the 30-day return window. With no additional suggestions, they disconnected the call. Very disappointing.

I am a little confused about some of…

I am a little confused about some of the few negative comments and it got me worried. What do I do if I am stuck someplace and I cannot get advice or help.
So I called and they picked up on second ring. I asked about the autofomer which I bought because I experienced exactly what they speak about in several State parks. Before the autoformer I seemed to have trouble charging things and our TV had crazy lines. I thought it was the Sat dish. I measure the voltage at the post the following day it was 119 to 121 voltage.

That night the parked filled up and our TV acted up.
I measured the line voltage again one side read 108 the other read 105 to 109 and would not stay steady. It was a hot days so everyone was using their air conditioner
Last month I returned to the same park and this time I had the Hughes Autoformer. I had no issues. The following night I unplugged the Autoformer and within an hour the picture on the TV started to shrink off and on and saw a wave in the picture. I noticed this got worse when our AC first cycled on.
Just to see I used a digital voltmeter measuring both sides of the post sure enough the voltage was 109 even one side dropped to 103 volts then 107,109, 106. I shut the power and put back in the autoformer.
Measuring the output it was rock solid 120 one side the other 119.
I plugged the RV back in and the picture returned to normal. Staying 4 more days we never had another issue.
While I know it helps my TV I am sure having low voltage and up and down voltage I am sure is no good for your TV or AC.
I am sure the internal surge protector also does a great job.
Why would anyone chance it. While you might have a service plan who wants to have their trip ended.

I highly recommend the autoformer and considering including adding the Watchdog.
I called when we got home to report my finding and again the calls was answered on the third ring.
I am sure companies get busy and people call with tech question usually at busy times but I swear but this company and the piece of mind their gear gives me

No one answers or calls back

I get E3 which is over current. PWD30-EPO. New RV. Permanent campsite. Even tried another pedestal. NO one is answering calls or email. 2 weeks of trying. What good is a " Lifetime warranty and support " if you can't get ahold of anybody ?

PWD50-EPO-H not working

I bought a PWD50-EPO-H and installed it correctly in my 2023 Airstream. When plugged into a 110 outlet in my storage area, I get a E6 error message. E6 is "Line Two Neutral Reversed" - it isn't wired wrong. I checked the electrical outlet and it is wired correctly. I tried two different 110 to 50 Amp connection adapters, one new and one I've used and had for 10 years.

I have called Hughes 5 times, and noone ever answers. I have left a message, three days later no returned call. Apparently they have NO technical support. I am super disappointed, and can't use my RV.

Update.............. 5/2/2023

After posting this review, Hughes called several times and were very nice. As it turns out, after leaving my RV plugged in for about eight minutes and the WatchDog resetting 2 or 3 times, the error magically disappeared, without me making any wiring changes. I then unplugged and replugged in the RV several times, and still no errors. I pray it stays this way forever. I am looking forward to the Bluetooth connectivity. Being optomistic here.

We are a smaller company and one phone rep was out on vacation recently, so we only have 1-2 people to answer the phones, at least we are still in the US. We are in California and only open M-F from 8-5 PST. If you call during these hours we will answer. If you call and we don't answer, it is because we are already on the lines. We do return calls if we get the message. You have a limited lifetime warranty on your unit if it is in fact defective. You can send us an email to sales@autoformers.com with all of your contact information and we can proceed with a warranty claim there.

False error “loss of neutral”

Is there any help for my potable 50 amp EPO unit the triggers a lose of neutral error every time the amp on L1 and L2 temporary read the same. My hardwire unit work fantastic in the same Circuit with nothing but my power cord between the two units. Replace power cord with temp 4 conductors #6 wire with the same error. Can’t depend on potable unit as it hast to be manually restarted when it trips a false error. Please help. I’m willing to ship the unit at my cost if there is a fix for it.

Bought the 50 amp ipo. Bluetooth connects when I'm standing at pedistal. Get on other side of rig and disconnects. Called and did everything thing they said. Sent email to complain and nothing.

Hello, the units are Bluetooth 5.0 which is the best Bluetooth there is currently. However, objects in the way of your phone's Bluetooth and the Power Watchdog's Bluetooth (remember it is like a walkie talkie, it is only as good as the weakest link), will lower the range. Metal is very good a reflecting or blocking radio signals, so if you have a metals sided RV any radio signal will have trouble going through it. Typically, you should have easily 20-30 feet range without issue, and up to 50-60 foot range in an open/straight line, if not more. If you are still having issues, please give us a call directly - 888-540-1504

50 Amp Voltage Booster

I ordered the 50 Amp Voltage Booster with Surge Protection. This is by far the best purchase I have gotten. It gives me peace of mind when I pull into a site. it takes care of the main questions;
is the podium wired correct? Check
am I protected from surges on both lines? Check
If I need a little power boost can I get it? Check

Nothing beats the knowledge of protection and safety!!

I was plugged in and a wire came loose on their wiring, park and hot touched ground. My magic power box protected my coach, no loss of anything but an inexpensive replacement part that took all of fivr minutes to replace. So add up the cost of a new converter, tv, dish box, refrigerator, heater, etc etc, and you would be silly not to have one of theses for your coach.

I purchased the 30amp autoformer for my trailer. We are in an older park that has poor electrical power. The voltage constantly is down around 100 volts. With the autoformer we have 113 volts on average. This has made a huge difference to our refrigerator and toaster. I couldn't even burn toast at the highest setting. Now it is turned down to the halfway mark. Have had it for 2 years and am really pleased with it.

Top Notch Products....

The Hughes line of products are top notch. I use the watchdog for home use where I know my power is stable and the autoformer when I'm away from home when power can fluctuate. Both are great products.

Not knowing exactly how this thing…

Not knowing exactly how this thing works, I still have a level of comfort knowing that its doing its job. The issues I've had are with the ground connection and the neutral connection. At my house, I have a 50 amp hookup. These regularly illuminate red when I first hookup. Hours later I'll check, and theyll be green. Dont know what to think about that. I like the weight of the device but I'd like it to be a little more weather proof as mine is starting to show sun fade and maybe even a little rusty in places.

Great product

Great product, mine would not show volts or amp. anymore, they did everything they could to make it work and when it would not they replace it . Everyone one was helpful. Great to know there are still companies and people like this still around.

Tired of low voltage or power spikes, try this

I got tired of low voltage damage to my RV components. The last time I replaced the refrigerator circuit board, I got the Hughes 30a autoformer. I haven't had a surge or low voltage problem since.
It works flawlessly without constant monitoring. THANKS HUGHES!
