I’m sharing this to help others avoid the serious issues my family faced with Atom Builders. They were hired to re-roof our 1920s Santa Ana apartment but left the roof exposed despite clear storm forecasts. The building flooded, ceilings collapsed, and mold grew quickly.

They began demolition without permits or required lead/asbestos testing. Project manager Art dismissed concerns, falsely claiming mold takes 3–6 months to form—contradicted by CDC/EPA guidance.

They sent an unlicensed employee posing as a mold tester using a phone app, never providing credentials. The city confirmed no permits were pulled and stopped work.

Proper testing later revealed lead paint, contradicting landlord and Atom’s claims.

Our family was displaced over a month, fronting $5,000+ for Airbnb, reimbursed only after legal threats. When we returned, the unit was poorly repaired with lead dust and sloppy work.

This wasn’t a miscommunication. It was systemic negligence endangering families.

Ask hard questions before hiring Atom Builders.

1. ATOM BUILDERS cracked my bedroom drywall from the ceiling to the floor causing 2 pieces of art to fall to the floor. Their employee took pictures of the damage and since then I have been GHOSTED! I text Luca 3/13/2025 who advised he would check to see if he could send out a guy to fix the dry wall issue. I texted again on 3/21/2025 requesting an update on the drywall and no response. I left a phone message on 3/28/2025 and no response.

2. When ATOM BUILDERS worked on the garage roof, no tarp was put inside the garage to protect the contents. Their employee said it was my responsibility.

3. ATOM BUILDERS’ website states that they will assist in determining if the roof repair or replacement is covered by insurance. I inquired and was told that my house was too old and would not be covered. I eventually decided to contact my insurance and they were of financial assistance.

4. ATOM BUILDERS was at my home for the final payment at the same time of my homeowner insurance representative. My representative attempted to ask some questions of their employee who was rude, uncooperative and nonresponsive.

5. On the day of final payment, their employee asked for a rating and attempted to coerce me into a higher rating to no avail.

6. ATOM BUILDERS employees came to my house at various times to receive my installment payments. My payment was given at home and I was charged again from the office on 2 occasions. Corrections were made. I made a total of 8 payments and received only 3 receipts for payment.

7. On the initial visit from ATOMS BUILDERS, I was asked if I wanted to keep my DirectTV satellite and I said yes. A few weeks later I lost my television access and discovered the satellite was on the ground in the flower bed.
