Dangerous allergy incident
I had a truly awful and dangerous experience at Atis Borough (London) today. I bought a takeaway bowl for my boyfriend who has a nut allergy around . We’ve eaten at this branch before with no issues, and the staff were always careful which is why I trusted going back.
This time, I clearly told the staff multiple times that the food was for someone with a nut allergy. I even pointed at the rice area and asked, “There are no nuts here, right?” Two female staff members were there, one of them actually laughed and said to the other “you go for it,” which was incredibly rude and unprofessional.
When my boyfriend ate the food later this evening at home, he had a serious allergic reaction after just a few spoonfuls. He had to take four antihistamines and make himself sick to stop it getting worse. Thankfully, he didn’t need his EpiPen or hospital treatment but it was terrifying.
He’s fine with traces, so it’s clear there was an actual nut or nut ingredient in the bowl. This is completely unacceptable and shows a total lack of care and food safety awareness.
This could have ended very differently. Atis needs to take this seriously, retrain their staff, and make sure they understand how to handle allergies properly. Laughing about allergies and serving contaminated food is not just bad service!!!!!! it’s dangerous.
