Applykite Experience for finding PhD.

The idea of the platform is honestly really good, and their support team is one of the few that actually replies, helps, and treats you nicely, that makes a big difference. It’s a useful place to start searching for professors or PhD spots, but you still have to double-check info yourself. Some profiles are outdated or not totally accurate, so it’s not something you can fully rely on yet.
But overall, its a good concept to speed up your apply process by finding relevant opportunities.
Great people behind it, just need a bit of data polishing.

I started using Kite when I was already…

I started using Kite when I was already tired of emailing professors on my own. Honestly, not all the outcomes worked, some professors never replied, some interviews didn’t lead anywhere, but at least I finally got a few proper responses and interviews.

It wasn’t a magic fix, but compared to being completely lost, it really helped me move forward. I’d still keep using it and I’ve already told a couple of friends about it.

"A Structured Path Forward at 46"

I started applying for a PhD in Civil Engineering. when I was 46, married, two kids, and more than 20 years of work behind me. Most people around me thought it was pointless at my age, and honestly I also had doubts. Kite didn’t magically solve everything, but it did save me a lot of time. Instead of jumping from one university website to another, I could actually use the filters to look at professors in Civil Engineering that matched what I was doing. That part was helpful, even though sometimes I still had to recheck details and rewrite things in my own way.

Through Kite I found professors in the US, UK, Japan, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. Some of them never replied, a few did and we had conversations, and from there I got to interview stages. In the end I received 9 offers, including a couple with partial funding. Around two-thirds of them were from opportunities I found on Kite, the rest I managed with the method it gave me. The frustrating part is that because of travel bans and financial issues I couldn’t accept right away, so I had to defer one offer and I’m still exploring options in the UK and Netherlands. For me, Kite was not perfect, but it gave me structure and a way forward at a point where I thought it was already too late.

I was looking for a Master’s in Art

I was looking for a Master’s in Art, and Kite didn’t have it as a direct program, but through the professors it suggested I managed to reach out and find opportunities I wouldn’t have known about otherwise. The AI tools also helped me with my SOPs and emails. the drafts were not perfect and I had to rewrite a lot to make them sound like me, but they gave me structure and ideas to build on. Sometimes the advice felt a bit generic, but overall the combination of professor discovery and the AI support made the whole process less overwhelming and eventually helped me land a position.

I got the Pro plan on ApplyKite which…

I got the Pro plan on ApplyKite which was ridiculously cheap, and one of the main features was a list of professors whose work matched my field. Before this, I was applying to open positions without considering who I would be working with. Now I understand that in some countries it’s better to find a supervisor first (for me, in multimedia) and then see if they've got positions or grants. This made my search much more focused. The professor list was not perfect. some matches were off, so I still had to review each one. But it helped me see an approach I hadn’t thought about before.

Finding very recent open opportunities from LinkedIn

I have been using Applykite for finding the latest opportunities in Germany. It was getting updated regularly and was getting notified of the most recent open positions.
I also used the Applykite AI for generating email sample and CV. I was editing them manually though, but it was good for considering the research interests.
