Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 177 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently struggled with unhelpful customer support, extremely long wait times on the phone, and endless difficulties trying to reach a real person for assistance. Clients also experienced severe issues with unexpected account restrictions, blocked payments, and frustrating banking procedures that frequently left them unable to access their funds. Some reviewers were happy with individual staff members who offered caring, patient, and attentive assistance during their branch visits. A few people also appreciated receiving efficient service and helpful guidance when visiting specific branch locations for their various personal banking needs.

Missed settlement date

Poor communication, missed settlement date for property purchase, no accountability, came to us requesting additional info for the loan at the week of settlement.
I struggle to understand how 60days is not long enough for them to get their admin in order

Worst customer support in banking I…

Worst customer support in banking I have seen, not just in Australia but worldwide, having lived in many countries. Regarding a credit card dispute, I tried to call customer support, but I was forced to deal with a bot in the app. You leave a text message with the bot, and someone from God knows where responds after many hours. When I try to respond, the app bot makes me go through the same silly questions all over again.

The process has now been ongoing for nearly half a year. This was clearly designed to make customers give up contacting ANZ customer support. They make many billions in profit every year but cannot be bothered to have a functional customer support system. Third-world banks provide better service for their customers.

That's the second strike against ANZ…

That's the second strike against ANZ and I'm not waiting a round for a third. They are becoming way too authoritarian with their very personel and 'NONE of your dam business!' questions. I've been a loyal costumer since 2009 you would think they'd be more trusting/accomodating, but NO! terrible costumer service! so I'm going to my other bank to open a business account

ANZ KYC is a total disaster

ANZ KYC is a total disaster. Freezing accounts without warning and unjustified. Consent SMS messages inconsistent with email advices. Far too many people doing the same thing , will little understanding of the issues they ask about. I had 7 different staff members all running the same items. Little evidence of proper supervision or control. Total stuff up.

Worst bank ever!

Without doubt, ANZ has been the worst bank I’ve dealt with.

I’m a current ANZ customer with home loans and a credit card, and I’ve previously banked with both CBA and NAB. I honestly can’t wait to move away from ANZ. Unfortunately, my broker recommended them.

Day-to-day banking with ANZ is unnecessarily frustrating. Their app is nowhere near as user-friendly as CBA’s, and even simple things seem to be more difficult than they need to be.

Trying to withdraw money from a branch has also been frustrating. Even when requesting a relatively small amount of cash, I’ve been told to come back another day because the branch “doesn’t hold the cash”. That’s incredibly inconvenient.

The credit card application process was a nightmare, and when I later asked to increase the credit limit, I was declined. This was despite having a high income of $500k+ and being able to obtain a significantly higher limit through CBA without the same level of difficulty. Apparently, earning over $500k isn’t enough for ANZ to approve a credit limit above $20k.

Most recently, I have my credit card set up to automatically pay the full balance. I could clearly see that the balance was paid in full on the due date, yet I was still charged interest. I find this extremely concerning and will be making a complaint to Fair Trading regarding the interest charge and seeking an explanation as to why it was applied despite the balance being paid in full.

Overall, my experience with ANZ has been disappointing across multiple areas. If I had my time again, I would not choose ANZ, and I’m now actively looking at moving my banking elsewhere.

Based on my experience, I would steer clear of ANZ.

I fall outside ANZ bank

I fall outside ANZ bank, Wendouree, Victoria, 3355 Australia.
A customer service officer Billie helped me up, took me too a seat in the Bank. I was in shock and hurt. Billie let me rest and gave me water. She checked on my welfare a couple of times and let me use the bathroom and actually led me there. She should be awarded customer service officer of the year. Her kindness was unparalleled. I am a customer of ANZ and now I always will be.

Never get a mortgage with ANZ ever

Never get a mortgage with ANZ ever, this is our previous mortgages (BOQ, Westpac) were without issue and I believed this would be the case for a new bank. At EVERY stage they made the process slow and difficult, the construction loan release was so delayed (our builders nearly ended our contract). And do not bother with the complaints process, their follow up is poor and when you eventually get through on the phone they have no idea about the issue-all interactions with ANZ are marked by poor communication while branch staff are helpful their information is misaligned with the team processing. Their rates are high even if you have a large loan amount and above 80% LTV. Do not commit to a mortgage with them!!!!

Poor Service and Illegal

Wont work with legally Licensed Medical Cannabis companies that are actually turning over a profit! It should be illegal for banks to refuse to work with companies when companies are compliant. How can legally compliant companies work with any banks when they all refuse to work with us

ANZ customer service is appalling

ANZ customer service is appalling. No branches in NSW are open on a Saturday and we were told to go to the Canberra to go to a branch to resolve an issue with our accounts being incorrectly restricted on a Friday night. Very few branches and the ones that exist tell you to use an ATM rather than a staff member. Any account issue can only be addressed Monday to friday.
We are moving all of our accounts to ComBank.

Do not invest short term with the ANZ

Do not invest short term with the ANZ. If you need your money urgently you HAVE to wait 30 days before you can access it. You cannot access it in under this time and you meet with a wall of this is how we do it. Find some other way to look after your money.

As a small business it is crucial that payments made Via OSKO are processed instantly. Being a large corporation you may be able to handle upset customers, unfortunately for small businesses upset customers in a small town hit hard. As one of the big banks you have set your standards low, I would presume you are proud to lead the way and lead by example.

Changing client's details without authority!

I applied for a credit card with them, got approved and at the time to verify my ID online, I noticed they changed my SURNAME without calling me to check. Helped themselves to taking one of my surnames (I have two) and added under Middle name. When I called to complain and ask for this to be rectified and the information to reflect exactly what I completed on the application form, they said I would have to go into a branch to sort this out. There is no way I am leaving my house to sort anything out because of a mistake they made, when I could have otherwise verified my ID online. Quite concerning that a bank is helping themselves to changing client information without consulting us and when this is called out, it becomes the client's problem, rather than you coaching your team.
Absolutely dodged a bullet here and just asked to cancel my application altogether. I want nothing to do with this bank. Beware!!!

Our experience with ANZ's mortgage team…

Our experience with ANZ's mortgage team has been incredibly frustrating and stressful.

Every time we contact ANZ, we receive different information from a different representative. One call, we're told we only need to make one repayment to bring our account up to date. The next call, we're told we've missed a completely different payment and now owe more. We were even advised that one of our repayments had been accidentally allocated to the wrong month, which only created more confusion. We've asked them multiple times to listen to the previous calls recordings.

We have made every effort to understand our mortgage and keep our repayments on track, but it's almost impossible when the information changes with every phone call. Instead of leaving conversations with clarity, we leave feeling even more confused about what we actually owe.

A mortgage is one of the biggest financial commitments a person can have. Customers should be able to rely on accurate, consistent advice from their bank. Unfortunately, that has not been our experience.

The inconsistent information, poor communication, and lack of accountability have caused significant stress and unnecessary anxiety. We shouldn't have to repeatedly chase answers or question whether the information we've been given is correct.

We are simply asking for one thing: a thorough review of our mortgage account and a clear, accurate breakdown of how every repayment has been allocated and exactly what remains outstanding.

We expected far better service from ANZ. At this stage, we have lost confidence in the support we've received and sincerely hope no other customer has to go through the same experience.

A scam!

I’ve come to the conclusion that ANZ Customer Support is itself a scam. After four calls today, the evidence suggests that their phone system will automatically disconnect you after 15 minutes, causing you to call again and, presumably, allow then to charge the bank another call fee. Of course, the bank also suggests that using their sad Android app is much easier and more convenient, but the Messages section just never connects, so you can never contact them that way.

I visited the ANZ Cairns branch…

I visited the ANZ Cairns branch recently, and was attended by a woman named Hyang Lim Lee. She was very pleasant, thorough and patient with me, and she answered my concerns entirely...even suggesting that I open an 'ANZ Plus' account, which I did.
As a 75-year old man it is greatly appreciated when a younger person takes the time to actually listen and engage, rather than merely operating off scripted verbage. Kudos to ANZ for hiring such exceptional people as Ms Lee.
