Great customer experience, very efficient service when handing over the car & dropping car off. Marta was lovely (even at 5am) out of hours service provided. Would recommend rental company.

Great Experience
From the time we found their website, which was very informative, to the ease of picking up and droping off the car was amazing. Their Customer Service is second to none. Paulo, Debra, and the young man (sorry we can't remember his name) made our experience outstanding. They provide contact numbers in case you require assistance throughout your travels. They respond quickly to email inquiries. Felt like a very personable experience.
We rented from their Lisbon Office just north of the Airport. If you are staying at the Holiday Inn Express before your departure they are 2 mins across the street and will pick up the car for you.
We highly recommend Amoita Car Rental.
Please do not use this company!
Please do not use this company! If you like old tired hire cars, dreadful customer service and lots of hidden charges these are the guys for you. Booked our car hire through Zest and on the face of it they come back at a reasonable price. However we would eventually pay over double the price quoted. Firstly the car they gave us was an old VW Polo scratches all over it and probably the worst looking hire car i have eve used. Next we were told we were being charged for out of hours collection even though it was a flight delay that caused the issue. I thought ok i kind of get that. then we were charged for the motorway toll transponder. I explained that where we were going we wouldnt need one but they said its company policy! ok a bit annoyed now but wanted to just get away. We had a lovely holiday after this but on returning the car we were met by Paulo who i can only describe as the most awful, arrogant and unpleasant person i have ever met. He looked over the car and questioned some scratches. Luckily i always video the car before i leave and said they were there when we picked it up. Then he looked inside the car and saw what only could be described as normal usage with a slight bit of sand. He then declared there would be a 50 euro cleaning charge. I couldnt believe it! i took photos of this as well as it was a joke and is obviously used to scam people into paying over more money. When i confronted him about the charge he said i was lucky it was only 50 euros! please note i have a place in portugal and travel here a few times a year so have used multiple car hire companies and never really had an issue. I would urge people to avoid this company, if they look cheap they will make up the money elsewhere with other charges, beware!
Pure utter chaos and grumpy staff
We booked a car for Lisbon Airport 4 months prior to our flight.
Money was taken off my account upon reservation which I already found strange.
Arriving in Lisbon and marching to the car rental desks, we learned that this company has NO counter at the airport.
Google Maps showed a location 3km away in an industrial estate, allegedly open 24 hours.
So we took a taxi to this location. There was a long queue so we even ended up with a mafia taxi who charged us 50 EUR for that short journey.
Upon arrival, it was 8pm, we find closed doors. A few minutes later my phone rings and an exasperated lady yells at me they are waiting for us at the arrival terminal. She claims she held a sign with my name. Sorry, this was never communicated. You don't check name signs in arrival hall if you have no info about being picked up. A meet and greet at the arrival terminal was NEVER communicated.
We were told to wait and herself and her boyfriend arrived bad tempered, it was Friday night, we were obviously nithing but a nuisance for them, they kept on yelling mad we did not see their sign. This behaviour continued for another ten minutes, no apology, only grumpy faces.
Drop off was as chaotic. We were told to text one of the Lisbon representatives, but got no reply. I sent drop off info to 4 different people. One finally acknowledged my text and said she would meet me. We had an early flight to catch and arranged 7 a.m.
We were at the airport at 6.35 a.m. and I called the number saying I'm here, only to be yelled at again, claiming there will be a surcharge if they have to meet me before 7 a.m.
This company should stick to its office in Lisbon City and stay away from serving the airport. They have no counter, no return desk, zero communication skills and just fabricate pure chaos while blaming the customer. The car itself was OK, we got a Fiat Panda although I had booked one category up. Also the car was only 2/3 full. We were asked to return it at 2/3 but it is hard to judge putting in the exact amount of petrol when you don't know the car. So we ended up filling it up full. Overall I can not recommend this company.
Hired through Zest and very impressed
Hired through Zest and very impressed. Never hired a car or driven abroad before, so was nervous, but it was only a positive experience.
Cheapest option for an automatic car, given a really nice Seat Ibiza and easy pick up and return at the airport. Will definitely use again
Stay Clear
We had the misfortune to rent a car for our Portuguese holidays through Amoita.
The car they gave us was quite old but it seemed to be running fine however the car broke down on the motorway half way through our holidays and we were lucky that we did not ended up in an accident as a result of it.
We had only done about 500 km when we came to a toll bridge on the motorway and as I went to slow down and change gear the car did not respond and we almost came to an halt.
I eventually managed to put it in second gear and resume the trip.
Same issue happened when we exited the motorway and we had 2 cars behind us that fortunately did not drive into us.
We managed to arrive in Lagos which was our destination where I immediately called their breakdown assistance.
They sent a taxi and a tow truck to collect the car.
Car was still running as the tow truck driver asked to test the car for about 300 meters but, as I was concerned about our safety I was happy to settle for a replacement car.
4 days later I received a call from Amoita claiming that the clutch had burnt out and that I was responsible for it.
They claimed that there was a burnt smell coming from the car, which was not there when the vehicle was in my possession.
The typical lifespan of a clutch on a manual car is between 10,000 and 150,000 miles but only with Amoita’s cars you can destroy one by driving 500Km.
I have been driving manual cars for the last 27 years and, strangely enough I never had to fix or replace the clutch of any of the cars I have ever own or driven.
Amoita claims that it was my complete fault if the car broke and that I would have been held responsible for the damage.
They also claimed I did not know how to drive a manual car (laughable) and they charged my credit card with the total excess applicable for a total of €1000.00.
I believe this is a total scam and I can only assume that Amoita, in an attempt to save money, doesn’t carry out the necessary maintenance of their cars putting the safety of their customers at risk.
I also believe that this issue is a simple wear and tear issue for which Amoita doesn’t want to pay for themselves.
The above claims are substantiated by the fact that Amoita has refused to provide a mechanic report for the issue, an itemized statement for fixing the car and a copy of the invoice of the mechanic after the car has been fixed.
If they really wanted to show that that what they claim is true they would comply with the above requests in order of transparency.
This is obviously not the way they operate.
As this smells like fraud to me I would not exclude a law suit against them.
I would stay clear from renting cars from them
Great experience and value for money.
We have just returned from Portugal and hired a car from Faro airport. We were very happy with the service. The price was great and I was able to include various extras (like excess waiver, toll road token, etc.) and it still worked out cheaper that the standard companies. We paid for collection from car park 4 - there was a general hire car office there and we had to simply wait outside that for the Amoita rep to arrive. The car was very good - no fuss pickup or dropoff. We had to rearrange our trip due to covid and Amoita were very helpful and straight forward to deal with. Very happy with Amoita.
Total scam, don't believe the positive reviews
We rented a car with amoita in Feb 2022. We had to pay the full amount up front by creditcard. Based on the positive reviews, we had no hesitation. The contract listed that we would get a full refund minus 25 euros if we cancelled the reservation at least 48 hours in advance. Unfortunately due to excessive problems with lack of staff at Schiphol airport, our tickets were cancelled with no means to rebook our flight. We cancelled our reservation and have asked for the refund. After repeated e-mails, amoita finally did confirm the cancellation, but claims they can not refund our card because the payment was made 90 days ago. They also claim that 'the system' or some form of legislation does not allow them to pay us back through a normal bank transfer, which is 1. totally bogus, other companies have payed back for example accomodation rentals with no reference to any system whatsoever. 2. Not mentioned in the terms of the contract. They claim we can only get a refund by filing a complaint with our bank. Which is an arduous process, and also, our bank has already stated that since we made the payment more than 4 months ago, this route does not apply.
Superb service from Moita at Faro…
Superb service from Moita at Faro airport. My contact was David Rosa and he could not have been more helpful. Highly recommended. Neil Shillito 16/2/2022
Best car rental experience ever!
We rented a car for 2 weeks, picking it up in Lisbon Airport. The car was in excellent condition. We drove in Portugal and Spain (nearly 3000Km) without any problems and on our return the person in charge actually recognised us! Procedure to pick up and return was extremely easy and stress-free. It is definitely the most stress-free rental I ever had (and I rent a lot of cars!). We have already booked another car from Amoita again for 2022.
Best ever car rental experience
Rented a car from Amoita based on the great Google reviews. We where picked up at our hotel in Lisbon by a friendly guy. A short check of the car later, without even trying to sell us extras like extra insurance, we where off to Algarve. We ended up dropping the car off at Faro airport without extra one way fee. Another friendly Amoita guy came right up to the car, just as we arrived to parking P4. He briefly checked the inside, checking the petrol status. He didn’t even bother checking for damages on the outside.
They didn’t charge extra for adding secondary driver. The car was nice and clean. Will definitely be using Amoita next time I’m in Portugal.
First time I've ever given 5 stars to a car hire company
Never ever in my history of writing reviews have I given 5 stars to a car hire company. I chose Amoita based on their very good Google reviews. They certainly weren't the cheapest car hire company in Faro, Portugal but the reviews on all their competitors such as Hertz and Budget were all terrible. I have to say Amoita were amazing, the car was great, the service was great. Yes they were a little bit more money but it was worth every penny, or Euro. We chose to collect the car from the P4 parking area which was just a short walk from the main terminal. We will certainly be using this company again.
I have been a customer for 3 years
I have been a customer for 3 years. I found Amoita a very reliable and dependable company. Sadly they do not have a Mii or Up or Citygo anymore and I needed to change company. But I will check next time when I come, if they have one of these again.... thanks for the excellent service Sr. João !
