Stay away from this company

Called the customer service number to request a delivery. After going through all of the automatic prompts, the price given per gallon was 4.76 a gallon. The price of propane in Virginia based off of the US Energy Information Administration is $3.47 a gallon for the month of Feb 2024 in my state. Even after the Hazmat Fee, Fuel Recovery Fee and Paper invoice fee, that only accounts for an extra $0.12 a gallon. Why is the price so much more? Have been an Amerigas customer for the past 7 years. Prices have never been that outrageous before. Before Amerigas went to an out of state call center, use to be able to contact the local office and it took only a few minutes to place an order and get a confirmation about delivery. Since moving to the call center, customer service has severely declined. If you are in the market for propane services, steer clear of Amerigas!

The worst.

The worst customer service I have experienced in my life. We were without heat for over a week in the dead of winter. Don't ever use this company.

Awful company

Awful company. Didn’t show up when appointment was scheduled. Extra $130 added to the bill for propane pickup. Was only told it would be $200 to remove tank. Got a bill for $332. Would not recommend. Horrible experience

WORST COMPANY EVER

WORST COMPANY EVER. If I could give -100 stars, I would. Their practices teeter on the verge of unethical. My account was bought by them through acquisition of the original company who set up my propane tank and equipment. Thousands of dollars stand in the way of me switching providers. They know this and that is why they feel they can treat their customers so poorly. But one day I WILL cut them off. Until then I will just leave these reviews telling all potential new customers DO NOT get yourself associated with this company. Too many reasons to list why. But, put simply, they are lying money hungry B******s, so beware!

Worst company I have dealt with for…

Worst company I have dealt with for Propane, Can't call the local office in Staunton VA any longer to get tank filled, have to call 800 service and get someone in India or Pakistan that speaks very pour English. They cant understand the basic English, asked to get tank filled, "You want to cancel service sir" No I want tank filled! " I am sorry I can NO help you with that", Get me your supervisor, " He No Available right now" "You call back later" not to mention at this point I have been on the phone for over an hour on hold waiting to speak with anyone. This company has gone from bad to worse. Pricing is way higher than other companies, just got fuel from Southern States on Tuesday was only 2.99 per Gallon, Amerigas says they are currently $4.39 plus fees, But Southern States does not show any added fees. What a scam.

Acquired a Townhome

Acquired a Townhome. Called up to have gas turned on. Received a welcome e-mail. Received a call from property manager that renters were unable to use the facility because of no gas. Called up Amerigas. They refused to unlock the gas meter because it was outside of normal business hours. Lost a weeks rent. Refuse to compensate me for their incompetence. Amerigas waived the fee to unlock the meter. The fee is used for transportation cost, training of workers, insurance on their vehicles and safety checks on their equipment to charge the costumer for the usage of the gas.

Lawbreakers

So yesterday they came to deliver gas. They claim that they knocked - we did not hear them, and have a well functioning doorbell. In violation of the law (according to the fireman that came out), Amerigas locked the gas tanks in the shutoff mode, so now it is 38 in the house. You cannot turn the heat off during the winter like that, and my family member is 82, this is both a property and a health risk. STAY AWAY from these lawbreakers! They have a 1.1 star rating for a reason!

Time for some lawsuits to start happening it seems.

I have had it with this company to the point of getting a lawyer to sue this company. When we had auto fill they left me empty on xmas and easter day. They have to constantly correct the billing every month like this month I paid my december invoice, it shows they received the payment but still have that invoice as past due. They had over $500 dollars extra charged on my account that took 10 months to get fixed. Now this is the second time I have had an order in for propane and they have failed to show knowing it is 18 degrees outside and I have small children in my home. Order was placed 2 weeks ago and still no gas delivered. The excuse I got was they don't have a driver in my area... WE have a huge amerigas office 15 minutes away from my home so there is no excuse to not deliver. When I called on 1/19/24 I was told by Monday and here we are almost the end of the day and still no delivery. I will be contacting lawyers to see what my rights are in filing a lawsuit against the amerigas company. They are the most unreliable company I have ever used and do not recommend them to anyone for they cant keep the billing correct and leave you without heat or a way to cook for weeks.

Double the price propane

Worst gas company! Charges 4.16 a gallon when everyone else is 2.15 so you pay 800-1000 more per fill up than anywhere else.. costs 199.99 to have them remove tank. Ok remove the tank! I will still save money! Centerra will put in new tank for free and only charge half for propane. So I will get my money back in one fill up! Screw you Amerigas oh! And don’t forget to report it to better business bureau. People need to know

Worst company on the planet

To say this company has poor customer service is a massive, massive understatement . This is now the Third time in a row they've allowed us to run out of propane . When the stove stops working , I call immediately, and you would think since we are on automatic refill that they would consider it an emergency . 3 days now with no hot water and no cooking . It's not possible to get a hold of anyone in the United States, just Asian call centers. I spoke with another company today and they're going to come out and put in a new tank . AmeriGas can come get there's whenever they want , but they're not getting another dime out of me . I can confidently say that this is one of the worst companies you could ever hope to deal with. I can't help but wonder if they would be this incompetent if we lived up north and are heating depended on our liquid propane as well?

AmeriGas locked my tanks December 26

AmeriGas locked my tanks December 26, 2023 and did not notify me that there was a problem. No notice on door, or on-line account, or email or phone call.
How did I find out? I'm on Automatic Delivery. Around the first week of January, I checked account on line and remember seeing something about a delivery order placed so I logged out expecting a delivery soon.
Come January 17, 2023, I called inquiring why no one has been out to fill my tanks when my online tank reading was now at 11%. I had to go through 2 call center customer service reps who were very difficult to understand because their inability to speak clear English only to be told the tanks were locked because a tank needs to be repaired (from visit Dec. 26)? and the earliest to get someone out was January 31, 2024. SAY WHAT? Up North, we were in an arctic freeze and there is not enough propane left to fuel a furnace, water tank and stove that long even with space heaters and the thermostat turned way down. I'm not someone to lose my cool but I sure did this time. I got absolutely no where with them and had to end my call because I had to leave for an appointment to service my Honda.
Tried again to contact Customer Service 2 days later. More run around. No earlier than Jan. 31. but did say driver wrote something about too close to ignition source? No problem last 8 years and now it's a problem? So what is it? A broken tank or something else? I have two tanks. Couldn't fill the good one?
Couple hours later tagged down an AmeriGas driver filling other tanks in Mobile Home Park and asked if he had any helpful advice. Gave some insight and an Email Address for company to state problem. So, I emailed AmeriGas (1/19).
Tried to sign-up with another supplier. They opened account and set a schedule date. Came out today and couldn't set tanks by himself. Made calls and returned with answer "No" can do. Sorry? They deleted my account. Really?
I'm now down to 6 percent. So, I tried calling Amerigas a third time (1/23). Problem with tanks. We'll be out by end of month. Now what? Complain to BBB, Ohio's Attorney General? There is already one lawsuit with Michigan vs AmeriGas.
So much for a being problem free paying 8 year customer. Too many Companies are going off the rails.

**UPDATE** 2/2/24
1/31- So, after several phone calls and emails since that 12/26/23 date,
AmeriGas never did show or make any contact by end of month. Made one more call to Customer Service's outsourced, overseas Call Center. Got no where.

Time to escalate!
1/31-Called my Ohio AGO and filed Complaint.
2/1- Ohio AGO called me to discuss complaint.
2/1- Shortly thereafter - I had a lengthy and excellent phone conversation with [shout out to- Linda] from Customer Advocacy/AmeriGas who was very helpful and let me know when the they get Notice from State AGs, it's a serious matter. My issue was considered one to be "escalated".
2/1- A Technician, from Michigan, [shout out to Jeremy] who is temporarily in Ohio, moved tanks to Code distance and serviced tanks.
2/2- Tanks were filled [shot out to Todd].
Thank You God! Thank You! Ohio AGO.
They did it in two days.
Just in time for those twenties degree nights.

AmeriGas has many holes in their system that need to be addressed. [Some Service Techs in OHIO might be a good place to start!] I'm hoping that my phone conversations with both Offices has brought some matters to their attention and maybe help other customers. AmeriGas once was a decent Company. Hoping they do better! Look for the "good things".

They will let you freeze to death and not care!!

We ordered gas on Jan 5th and told delivery would be between Jan 6 a Jan 12. On Friday the12th I called at 1:00 pm and was assured some one be out by the end of the day. No one showed up. So I called the emergency number and explained that I was 83 years old, it’s -10 degrees and I was nearly out of propane. I was assured someone would be out in the morning. At noon the next day I called again and was told they do not work on the weekends, but my account would be expedited and they would be out in less than 3 days (Monday or Tuesday). I again explained I would run out by that time and how could was. So I turned down the furnace to 50 and prayed. On Monday I called numerous times explaining I was out and it was below 53 degrees in the house. The overseas call center is not helpful and uncaring. Absolutely NOTHING was done. Amerigas does not care if we freeze to death. No one can tell us if or when someone will be here, claiming they don’t have a way to contact a local office.

Worst Customer Service Ever!

We thought we were out of propane on Dec. 21st. They did deliver the propane around 5:30pm, however, our cookstove would not stay lite. The driver told us that the regulator was frozen. He also told us that we were not out of gas. Numerous telephone calls, false dates to replace the regulator. We didn't get the regulator fixed until Dec. 26th. Ruined our holiday completely. No stove no meals. Plus, the tank and equipment is supposed to belong to them but we are being charged for the regulator. Very, very, very dissatisfied with Amerigas. We have been a customer for many many years.

Amerigas is the worst company across…

Amerigas is the worst company across all industries. They are corrupt, they lie, they overcharge, they cheat.

I purchased my house in December 1998 and the house had Amerigas as its propane provider. As with all customers the tank was leased which basically means Amerigas will treat you like a monopolist provider and overcharge you on every occassion..Every tankfill up was 50% more per gallon than other propane providers, I know this because (I regularly checked prices of the other providers..

For the first 15 years or so, their customer service was based locally so it was easier to get a response and service. Over the last 5-10 years they switched to offshorre customer service. I do not blame the offshore people as they obviously worked from a script provided by Amerigas - be nice, do nothing, say a lolcal manager will respond which never happens. The only way I got response was to lodge a complaint with the North Carolina Attorney General.

When I finally spoke with a local representative all responses were completely unsatisfactory so my only option was to purchase the 30 year old tank. When I purchased the tank from Amerigas, Amerigas sold me a tank that was completely out of compliance. When I had another company come out to check out the tank, they were going to have to install new fixtures, hardware, etc. in order to get the tank into compliance. Since Amerigas owned and leased the tank to me it was their responsibility to maintain the tank. Amerigas is supposed to inspect the tank at each visit. I requested a copy of these reports. Amerigas never provided them. To get the tank into compliance would have have cost me $1500, so I decided to make the move to all electric given the current government tax rebate incentives. So I replaced my propane tankless water heater and propane HVAC as they were older and would need replacement sooner rather than later.

When I purchased the tank, Amerigas billed me for a year’s worth of lease fees stating I had not purchased enough gas during a 12-month period that Amerigas conveniently selected in order to justify invoicing me for the lease. Of course Amerigas at that time was the one determining when to come out to my home to pump propane. After countless hours of calling and emailing Amerigas this ridiculous invoice was waived.

Last year while Amerigas was still responsible for determining when to fill up my tank (i.e., they monitorede and were responsible for determining when to deliver propane versus me calling them to come out), Amerigas filled up my tank and then a month or two later came out again to fill my tank of course when propane prices were at a peak.

After the electric tankless water heater and HVAC were installed I requested Amerigas close out my propane service. This requires a visit by Amerigas to pump out the remaining propane from my tank. When I asked how much this would cost, your staff rep said it should be about breakeven (cost of service less the refund for unused propane. Amerigas then had the audacity to charge me for $1,762.49 for their time less $476.15 (for the propane refund) for a total of $1,301.31. Amerigas charged $190 per hour. They sent 3 people in 3 different trucks (one localand 2 from Henderson. The two staff from Henderson had to wait an hour for the Propane Truck person from your Garner office to arrive. Of course they charged me for this time while they waited and played around with their smnartphones. Also, they said they were going to arrive between 8am-12n, they showed up at almost 2pm. No one called me to let me know that they would arrive late.

Prior to this visit I had scheduled Amerigas to pump out the gas and close out my account in September, no one showed up and no one even called from Amerigas. I waited 6 hours.

After I received the invoice I wrote a letter on November 10, 2023 to let them know of my dissatisfaction. Still no response almost 2 months later.

Do not slkect Amerigas as your propane provider. They are corrupt, they lie, they overcharge, they cheat, and they bully.

WORST COMPANY..RUN!!!!!!!!

On Dec13 I went to bed with heat, I woke up with no heat. I go out and look at my tanks...one tank shows empty the other tank shows 80%...why am I out of gas?  I schedule a delivery Dec 21.  The gas gets delivered...I am not home (had no idea when they were showing up because they gave me a 5 day window). I get a text saying my gas was delivered....I think yay I am good to go, but to my surprise they had locked my tanks because my tanks were empty (again one tank showed 80%).  I did not go look at my tanks..why would I...I received the text so I am thinking something is wrong with my boiler. I call a technician to come and look at my boiler.  He checked and then went to check on the tanks and saw the note on the tanks saying they were locked so he couldn't do anything. So I call on Dec 26 to make an appointment to have them unlock my tanks..the incompetent folks that answer the phones said my appointment was on Dec 30 8-12 but I received an email saying it was on Tuesday January 2nd.  There is no way I would have accepted that date when I was on the phone because I am a school teacher and that was my first day back to work after winter break...so now I had to take off work. I was told I was the first appointment at 8:30 but by 10 still no technician. I started calling trying to get a hold of someone who could actually do something which as you know is impossible because this company doesn't want customers to talk to managers (incompetent workers). The technician FINALLY showed up at noon.  He was literally here for 10 min and I received a bill for over 300$ for that ten minutes.  The bill states  99$ for dispatch fee   220$ for gas leak check!!!!!!!!
When you give a window of 5 days as to when they are going to deliver gas HOW CAN YOU EXPECT FOR THE CUSTOMER TO BE HOME???????????????? so if the customer is not home then they get fined/billed $319 because the technician had to come back. I could understand fining the customer if they said they would be home but they weren't but I had NO IDEA when they were coming to deliver my gas....If I had known, I would have been there.

Was going to be a customer But...

Was going to become a new customer because the tank was on the property I purchased. After two weeks of no show appointments and several promises by them to call me back (on hold times ranged from 8-20 mins each call) I have called them to take their tank. Lets see if they show up for that!
Terrible company!

DO NOT USE AMERIGAS!

DO NOT USE AMERIGAS!! Worst company of any kind that we have ever had to work with. We bought a house with an Amerigas propane tank. We had the tank filled. Then we bought a whole house generator and spent the next 6 weeks trying to get Amerigas to set an appointment to hook up the generator. You cannot talk to someone local. Their support is in the Phillipines and despite dozens of calls, emails, and use of their on-line form, we NEVER received a call to set up an appointment for hook-up. We contacted the propane company that we used at our previous home and they came and put their tank in and hooked up the generator. They placed the Amerigas tank out in the front yard. We have been calling for 2 months now to get them to pick up the tank and refund our money for the propane in the tank. We've been told several times that the people from their Wayland office would contact us. Absolutely nothing has happened!!! Absolutely the WORST COMPANY we've ever had to deal with!!!
