Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 171 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently state that customer service is terrible, mentioning that representatives are difficult to reach, unhelpful, language barriers are common, and staff provide incorrect information. Consumer grievances also show extreme frustration with sudden price increases, disputed billing charges, and heavily restricted medical claims or denied treatments. Though some reviewers were happy with their coverage, a small portion of people noted that the business handled claims smoothly and provided helpful support. These consumers found customer service remarkably easy to contact, appreciated the prompt assistance received, and praised the reliable network coverage.

Insurance scammers.

Regrettably, this platform obtained my personal information without my consent. I did not register for this insurance, which is neither affiliated with Medicaid nor a legitimate marketplace insurance provider; it appears to be a scam. The platform persistently attempted to solicit payment for medications that are full-price through Express Scripts. I have never been acquainted with this organization. Over the course of a year and a half, I have repeatedly attempted to cancel the service, as it continues to override my Medicaid coverage, causing issues with medication access and copayments. They have indicated that I would incur an out-of-pocket cost of $10,000 before my medications are covered. This situation is concerning.

Ambetter is a predatory leech…

Ambetter is mostly a predatory leech that is only there to gobble up federal subsidies for health plans, and do everything they can to not pay. I'm getting new bills a year later after they refused to cover a hospital stay. If the billing team at your medical office doesn't have the capacity to submit every claim four times, then Ambetter will not pay a penny. It's always wrong code, out of network, or some other phoney technicality.

Auto drafted and termed without notice or explanation

In January, after selecting our plan, Ambetter denied coverage for a necessary medication I have taken for years to manage chronic, debilitating migraines. Instead, they required me to try an alternative medication for two months before reconsidering coverage.

Just before reaching the two-month mark, Ambetter drafted our family premium of approximately $1,700 and then terminated our coverage without notice, citing “voluntary withdrawal.” After contacting them, they were unable to provide any evidence that we had withdrawn coverage and initiated a review process, which they stated could take up to 45 days.

I only became aware of the termination after receiving an autopay cancellation email on April 15, 2026—the day after undergoing a mammogram on April 14. Since then, we have been forced to pay out of pocket for all medical expenses, and as of today, May 3, 2026, we remain without coverage.

During this time, I have also been unable to afford the alternative migraine medication required by Ambetter, as it costs over $1,000 for just 10 tablets.

More importantly, I have three young daughters who require routine medical care. My youngest, who is two years old, has ear tubes and recently experienced bleeding. We have already paid for multiple visits out of pocket, and there are additional medical needs we have delayed addressing due to the financial burden while we wait for resolution.

This situation has created significant financial strain and has directly impacted our ability to access necessary medical care for myself, husband, and my children.

No providers accept this insurance

No providers accept this insurance, apparently there are too many issues with the providers being paid and then out of nowhere they removed medication that I’ve been on for years off of their approved list.

I spent close to six months, trying to find mental health services for my son in Florida or anywhere in the country. All the places I called would not accept Ambetter and then Ambetter never did give me a list of places that would accept.

Absolute garbage insurance you’re better off paying out-of-pocket or Medicaid/Medicare

They like to override your doctor and deny your healthcare

Ambetter of Oklahoma is an excellent insurance company if you like insurance companies that think that they know better than your doctor. They will get in the way of you and your doctor by denying the care, testing, and diagnostics that your doctor says you should get... and they didn't have a problem denying care for me less than 24 hours before it was scheduled (after I've waited weeks).

So definitely go with them if you want a health insurance company looking after themselves and their bottom line instead of making sure that you get the healthcare that your doctor says you should get.

If you go with this insurance company then be sure to be ready to file complaints with the regulatory agencies when you get denied.

Change your name to Am-Worse or Scambetter

Change your name to Am-Worse or Scambetter. It fits the service you have provided to date.

I enrolled in Ambetter as a small business owner in after being forced to switch providers. It has been one of the worst experiences I have ever had with any company.

My minor child suffered a severe injury requiring multiple surgeries. As part of recovery, occupational therapy (OT) was prescribed and previously covered without issue by our prior insurance. Ambetter denied the OT coverage, and despite multiple appeals including a strong written report from the treating surgeon at a major medical center stating that my child may never reach functional range of motion without continued therapy every appeal has been denied. This means their claims department knows more than the surgeon, who has a degree from Stanford.

When we followed Ambetter's own suggestion to obtain a new evaluation, they denied it as a "duplicate request." An expedited appeal was denied on the grounds that it was not life-threatening, despite documented pain during movement.

Beyond the denials, the customer service has been unacceptable. I have made countless calls, been promised supervisor callbacks that never came, and have been given nothing but runarounds with no accountability.

This company is not operating as a legitimate insurance provider. They are denying care recommended by specialists to a child. I would strongly caution any small business owner or family from enrolling with Ambetter.

Ambetter, you are the worst. You should be ashamed of yourself.

No Dentists I Guess

None of the dentists that they say on the website are in network are actually in network. I call them to get help, the lady reads aloud names of dentists from their website for 20 minutes as I patiently tell her that each one is also not in network. So she says she will give me a phone number for the dentist department in my area and then just stopped replying and let the line go quiet. After minutes of me saying "hello?" to an empty line I hung up in frustration.

We had Ambetter for years and loved the customer service and coverage. A mislisting showing our current doctors no longer took Ambetter (when in fact they did) led us to try another Insurance company for the first time in a long time, and it's been a miserable experience. We cannot wait to go back to Ambetter during the next open enrollment.

I've been with Ambetter for years!

I've been with Ambetter for years!! Last year I had open heart surgery, and I'm not gonna lie, after reaching my deductible they took care of everything. I especially like the rewards program, the points I accumulate I use to pay my premium.. BUT, this year the same plan that I had in 2024, went up to $66 from $0, and the web page is trash, as well as the customer service!! They have NON ENGLISH SPEAKING REPRESENTATIVES, AND THEY NEVER UNDERSTAND HOW TO ANSWER A SIMPLE QUESTION!! Also the prescriptions that I use to not have to pay for, I HAVE TO NOW!! I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS INSURANCE COMPANY!! LIKE I SAID EARLIER, WEB PAGE IS TRASH!!

They deny literally EVERYTHING

They deny literally EVERYTHING. I pay 662 bucks a month...JUST FOR ME. I need a shot in my back that costs 170. They denied it and insisted on me doing PT that I'd already done, WHICH IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE SHOT. They're policy is clearly to deny EVERYTHING. That's the business model. So, I've been haggling with them for months. All the while, I'm in so much pain I've become suicidal. Don't EVER EVER get "coverage" with this company. I'm paying 662 dollars a month for a figment of my imagination.

We have encountered a negative…

We have encountered a negative experience since January 2026, which has persisted for nearly three and a half months as we attempted to rectify and update the authorization year. Despite our efforts on our part, no resolutions have been achieved. This issue began in January 2026, and as we find ourselves in mid-April 2026, there has been no progress made, only unsubstantiated assurances provided.

Ambetter is so bad it should be criminal!

Very disappointing experience with Ambetter. I had repeated problems getting accurate information and timely help, and the whole process was much more stressful than it should have been. Communication was poor, support was inconsistent, and I did not feel like my concerns were taken seriously. Based on my experience, I would not choose this insurance again.

Buyer Beware!!!!

I was told to check out Ambetter Insurance as I just started on Medicare and pay $204/month for insurance. Payments are taken out of my Social Security checks. The person who told me to check it out claims to pay $16/month for insurance. Not sure if they have even had to use it yet.

I did my research and read the reviews on this forum and others.

There is also a very gut wrenching article in Propublica, regarding Ambetter and its parent company, and the rabbit hole one patient fell into in dealing with these companies ("I Don't Want To Die": Needing Mental Health Care, He Got Trapped In His Insurer's Ghost Network).

Needless to say, look elsewhere if you are looking for insurance. Avoid Ambetter like the plague. Their list of in network physicians is always out of date, most doctors and hospitals have never heard of Ambetter and they don't even care about the people who are paying $$$ for their worthless insurance.
