Gave a hidden link to this site under 'more info' somewhere, site opened, gave itself access / login through facebook unprompted, then started with a popup about payments after a 7 day tryout. Checked FB and indeed took a lot of liberties so immediately removed it, they then started emailing while never put it in so took it from FB. Pushy much?
Useless and expensive for
Useless and expensive for, in a word nothing, information easy to find on the Internet or with ChatGPT.
Good customer service but didn’t like the app.
UPDATE:
I complained to AllTrails about difficulty canceling the subscription; they responded in less than 24 hours (on a weekend) and refunded the $35 charge to my credit card. So…my experience with their customer service is very positive (unlike many of the other negative reviewers). Five stars for customer service, one star for the app and UI, and I upgraded my overall review from 1 to 2 stars.
Original review:
I should have read the TrustPilot reviews first.
We were on vacation in Estes Park and looking for hiking trails so I downloaded the app and was forced into a "free trial".
I found the app to be barely useable on an android phone--it was difficult to search by location and filter according to difficulty, and ads kept popping up asking me to subscribe to Peak (more money). I also tried the app on an ipad and it was worse!
Also, the default settings are an invasion of privacy--your name and activity are shared publicly--bad!!!
I originally subscribed on alltrails.com via my phone's browser, but to cancel, it was necessary to use a computer. I didn't discover this until a useless $35 charge turned up on my credit card.
I have used Gaia GPS in the past and think it is much much much better. Gaia GPS is not so intuitive but is filled with great information and, most important, the app respects the privacy and autonomy of its users.
If it was more money I would request a chargeback with my credit card company because of deceptive advertising.
Stay away.
Recommendation: Avoid Alltrails.
Still asking me to upgrade to the new Peak level at more than twice the cost of the annual premium subscription. Bad move.
I advise anyone reading reviews to avoid Alltrails. They sell you their highest level then introduce a new level at more than double the price with a few new features. Rip off.
Recommend Footpath, maybe Gaia but no longer Alltrails. It simply isn’t value for money.
Website unusable
Website unusable, pop-up to download app prevents any use.

Quite honestly this company must look at a map and just estimate the length of the walk!
We completed a round of Cefni reservoir on Anglesey today advertised by all trails as 1.8 kms
We measured the walk as 4.5 miles.
Will not use this app again
Useless!!

Steve from atomic bikes stole my.rim and tire and won't give it back
Not user friendly, laggy as heck, and unreliable.
I got all trails a while ago for my hikes, walks, runs and rides, I very quickly stopped using it, because all trails is unbelievably stupid to use. I was plotting a scenic drive today, Its the first route I've plotted that's over ten miles, and I wanted to add way points. You can't just add a way point and then move on or add another one, without first saving the map, then being dragged out of editing mode, then having to go back in to edit mode, only to have the exact same obnoxious tripe happen on every flipping waypoint you try to add. I remember years ago how unbelievably NOT user friendly all trails are. But I left if for a while and came back to it, only to remember all the idiocy and clearly untested things they have on their app and website is not only still there, but seems to be worse! My god! I cancelled my auto renew, and if I could get a refund, I absolutely would. This has got to be the worst route planner I've ever used, and only when you start doing more intricate routes do you really start to notice the laziness that's been put in to developing this. STEER CLEAR FROM ALL TRAILS!!!!!
I originally paid $35/year for…
I originally paid $35/year for AllTrails+ with full access to features. Now those same features are locked behind an $80 plan, and I’m being told to “upgrade” to keep what I already had. Meanwhile, new users are being offered 30–50% discounts on social media. That’s deceptive and punishes loyal customers. AllTrails also hasn’t responded to my support emails.
Nifty app and good routes
Nifty app and good routes, however, taken a point off as they used to have a map you could follow on your apple watch screenface but now you have to use your phone!
Inaccurate and misleading information
I only have used Alltrails online as a general guide and have not paid anything for a subscription.
I have found that their mileage and elevation gain is extremely inaccurate. Friends use it and their info is off significantly from GPS data and from other sites like wta.org that I use (WA trails association)
I was very annoyed this week when researching data about the high sierra traverse. According to alltrails, the route after summiting Mt. Whitney at the end should descend the technical climbers route. The standard hikers descent route isn't even mentioned! After doing my own research, I would NEVER want to descend the climbers route, especially with a full pack with overnight gear! It involves technical scrambling on loose rock and scree. I am doing this hike as a backpacking trip. I thought alltrails was supposed to be about hiking trails-not technical mountaineering.
This makes me believe the data for alltrails is compiled via AI or other algorityhm without a real human actually reviewing it.
Alltrails is OK for a broad overview, but absolutely don't rely on it for technical accuracy.
Really bad customer service
Really bad customer service. I purchased a gift for my son to give to his dad for fathers day - an annual subscription. I haven't received the confirmation email and have tried unsuccessfully to contact them via chatbot (getting caught in a loop), 2 x emails and a Facebook message.
Don’t download the “free” trial
I downloaded a trial that didn’t work so i did not bother to cancel it. However the money was billed afterwards.
Difficult to contact the customer service. They only reply once and don’t take action.
SCAM!!
SCAM!!! They are hiding the unsubscribing function so deep that you have to spend a lot of time figuring out where, in three different platforms, it is hidden, and how to deactivate it. They don't even have an unsubscribe button, and under the "Edit Account," you'll have to figure out that turning off autopay is a subscription cancellation! I'll never return to support this tricky, dirty marketing tactic.
very hard to delete account
The support is excellent
The support is excellent. I think you can just try it out if anything you don't like you can contact support and they will help you promptly. I enjoy the app and the service, regular price was $35 before but this year I got discount for $17. So I will give 5 stars for this. without the app I would have been lost in the woods honestly regardless of following the trails path. I am sorry for those who have not so good experience with Alltrails but take 5 mins to write to them and to let them know what they have to improve.
WRONG INFORMATION
I've been using the app for some time and generally found it useful. However, a recent experience raised significant concerns regarding trail accuracy and user safety.
Last week, I completed a hike that included sections of the Bibbulmun, Winjan, and Kattamorda trails. The route was listed as a moderate hike, estimated to take around 1 hour and 30 minutes. Based on that and the listed terrain, we planned an afternoon hike accordingly.
While the first part of the trail was beautiful and well-marked, the second half was a serious issue. The trail abruptly disappeared, leading us through dense, unmarked bushland with no signage. Alarmingly, we found ourselves in what appeared to be a restricted area. The hike ultimately took nearly 4 hours to complete, and the deviation posed both a physical challenge and a safety risk.
What’s more concerning is that I attempted to leave a review warning others—but it hasn’t been published. My hike data has also been erased, and there appears to be no direct customer support, only a chatbot on the website.
This experience raises important questions:
How many trails in the app are similarly inaccurate or outdated?
What measures are in place to verify trail information?
Why is there no reliable user feedback mechanism or support contact?
For an app many rely on for outdoor navigation, especially in remote areas, this level of inaccuracy and lack of support is unacceptable. I hope this feedback is taken seriously by them.

Seriously amazing app and happily used paid features. If you're considering going on a serious hike, I highly recommend AllTrails app.
Theft of multiple payments of $100-$150…
Taken multiple payments of $100-$150 each occasion off my card over several months. Within days of each other. Illegally. I cannot access my account on desktop, and my app won’t allow me to change anything.
No response from All Trails.
Check your bank statements if you use them, look for the multiple deductions of amounts which make no sense.
