Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 105 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many consumers reported extreme difficulties with the entire claims process, describing it as an absolute nightmare or a disaster. A prevalence of dissatisfaction centered on lengthy delays, requiring reviewers to make numerous follow-up calls just to track when a payment would arrive. Conversely, a small portion of people felt that certain aspects were positive, such as finding staff helpful and experiencing quick claim authorizations. Some individuals noted relief when refunds were processed swiftly, or when support interactions were found to be sympathetic during difficult situations. However, some people also mentioned that denials or insufficient compensation occurred even when specific documentation or crises were declared.

Due to my wife taking ill and admitted to hospital, on doctors orders we had to cancel our cruise, we found after submitting all documents required by Allianz and a chase up call our claim was handled immediately, it was stated our funds would be in our bank account whitin 5 to 10 working days, we received the full amount in 8 days, well pleased with the service.

Terrible travel insurance

I had an accident while travelling and Allianz was very unsupportive. The delays to process the claim are terribly long, it`s really difficult to speak with someone and get answers to your questions, when my claim was finally processed, they sent the cheque in the mail to an address that is no longer monitored in spite of providing clear instructions on how to send the payment - which I will likely never receive. Being injured is already difficult - at least your travel insurance should be compassionate and competent. Poor value for money - do not ever purchase. I wish I would have read more reviews prior to buying.

Do NOT use Allianz for your travel insurance

Allianz are total rogues. TAKE TRAVEL INSURANCE WITH THEM AT YOUR PERIL. If you have a claim, they will do everything in their power to not pay it out. We had to resort to sending them the shocking photos of my husband in the hospital Intensive Care Unit, despite the screeds of medical records and doctors reports we had sent them previously, plus get our travel agent involved on our behalf before they would settle our claim. They also try to split claims up wherever they can, so that they can deduct an excess on each 'claim'. Please choose another travel insurer if you can. Do NOT choose Allianz! You won't regret it.

Don't even try to use them

Don't even try to use them. Very useless, poor customer service. They waited for almost a month after i have submitted all the required documents before they responded to me. The airline reached out and refunded me just within 7 days.
Allianz responded after almost a month, then asked me for some worthless documents.
I will never refer Allianz to anyone, not even my friend.
A terrible customer experience!

Customer service is terrible

Customer service is terrible
I’m currently trying to get a refund for my holiday I’ve had to cancel due to me having had emergency surgery.
I have been insured through my bank for years and this is my first time I’ve ever had to make a claim.
I’ve sent all Documentation to the company but still not received any refund.
Trying to contact them is a nightmare.
When I email them I only get an automated response it says someone will contact me back but no response so had to phone them.
I’m trying to contact a supervisor on customer care but finding this impossible.
I am extremely disappointed with the service I’m getting.

Unresponsive, negligent, stressful

This company is extremely hard to get hold of let alone get straightforward and consistent answers to simple questions like how their processes work.

From the very start of needing emergency medical attention their customer service has fallen short at every hurdle. The whole process is a complete and utter nightmare. We have faced delays in communication, completely useless customer service agents and a complete disregard for the stressful situation we are in. Their handling of our situation has caused us undue stress and harm to our well being, on top of my immediate medical needs.

There had been no urgency from any of your team in getting me the necessary treatment, whilst I have been in excruciating pain and discomfort. It is highly concerning the total disregard from their employees with regards to the severity of my situation. It also shows a failure from your company to provide the required level of service that meets my medical needs whilst overseas.

Please do not take out travel insurance with this company as they are insufficient at providing it. It makes a scary situation even scarier when your travel insurance are offering no help and support.

To date we have complained and they have continued to ignore us. We are hoping this will get some more attention.

Shame on you Allianz

Shame on you. Have got alliance travel insurance through our bank, we have had this in place since 2024, and paid a premium for pre-existing medical conditions. Phoned tonight to add another condition for my husband, who is awaiting a hospital consultation for arthritis, to be told this has now voided or pre-existing conditions even though we’ve paid for them. The hospital consultation occurs after we get back, leaving us no choice but to travel with basic travel insurance and no COVER for his pre-existing conditions. The call centre have raised a complaint but it will take three days for them to respond, I don’t hold out any hope. On top of this, they will not refund any money paid for the pre-existing conditions, having said for adding a condition has no voided any previous declarations. Please be aware before you consider this rogue travel insurance, not worth the paper is written on.

Awful

Awful, Allianz issues a policy to later claim any fault in the policy to not give you a penny. Besides, no one is accountable for anything. Never again.

Don't use this insurance

They issued me a certificate of insurance for my Schengen visa, but there is a typo in the certificate, and I got my visa rejected. They compensated for neither the incurred cost of a new visa application, which is about 100 GBP, nor the travel cost if I can't travel because I could not get my visa in time. Worst experience ever!

Total scam

I got a surgery on the 19th of December and still didn’t get a refund for the antibiotics. I went back on the 31st to get my stitches removed and still didn’t get a refund for that procedure neither for the after care creams I got prescribed.
Wrote Allianz a million times, called them etc. No news. I’m a student, the amount they owe me is what I need to pay my rent in 3 days. Do not subscribe to this insurance, they’re a huge scam

No confidence in Allianz Travel

My policy was cancelled one week before going on holiday! No email to notify us, good job I checked my online banking and noticed the repayment. This is the second time this has happened. Customer service is appalling. I will be changing my bank account as a result of this experience as I do not have any confidence in the company.

Horrible customer service and a complete scam. I bought traveler's insurance and got sick in mexico. My insurance wouldn't cover anything because I didn't purchase a round trip ticket. I purchased the tickets on the same day but separate tickets there and back. I still paid the the insurance but they said it would only cover me fir the day I flew there. The website is very misleading. Total waste of money.

Worst Company ever to deal with, we can't all be wrong, 1.3 on Trust pilot?

I have travel insurance as part of my banking with RBS. They have swithched Compay to Allianz, the previous Company were great to deal with. A claim was made early July and after hours and hours of phone calls, emails and endless promises of call backs which never happend it has just been paid. This has to be the worst Company ever to deal with, looking at the reviews we cant all be wrong?
I have been with my bank for 20+ years and this is the last year I will switch to Virgin who offer the same benifit of travel insurance with your account.

Allianz seems to not adhere to your policy’s…

They don’t adhere to your policy’s coverage terms until you challenge their conclusions upon final review of your claim…trip interruption language in the policy document clearly states that trip interruption covers transportation to attend funeral services of a covered death of a relative but their examiner “assumes” that you are discontinuing your trip and thus only approve the airfare to return to USA, but they don’t reimburse you for return airfare to “CONTINUE” your trip! Page 9 of our policy document clearly states that the trip interruption covers round-trip airfare, if you’re continuing your trip and our uploaded documents in support of claim clearly demonstrate that we indeed continued our trip, their rep said that’s not covered! So we did the research, called them out on their own policy coverage details and now the claim has been “flagged for review by a senior examiner”…how convenient that they assume benefits to be paid out are less than what their own documents state that the policy holder is due. Be careful with this outfit, their practices are designed with their own interests in mind, not yours! Hold them accountable to the fullest extent possible!

Won’t recommend

I bought their travel insurance for my Eurostar ticket, and they send an email saying “To cancel, please just please call … and as long as you haven’t started your journey, made a claim or intend to make a claim, we’ll arrange a full refund.”
But in fact they have a 14 day cooling off period so if it’s past this period they won’t give you a full refund. I understand that there’s a cooling off period but then why would you say full refund is available before the trip? That’s just straight up lying and I won’t be buying any insurance from a company I can’t trust at all.
