So I have a brother that has a lower…

So I have a brother that has a lower than average !Q but would like to find a small room or studio as where he lives the owner doesn't maintain his house like he enjoys. He got on to this website and asked me to take a phone call from X so I took the call. He said he had a perfect place for my brother so I ask the address etc and started looking up the location and was like great but doesn't look like it is the $ he said. I questioned him on those details. All is include electric gas wifi so I asked so AC is included well you will pay for that... then when looking up the place online I saw the rental as a almost double the price of what he said. My brother had the address and rode over on his scooter and was able to talk to the person (owner) and he said the guy is not telling you the truth. This happened on 2 other rental options. He posted a picture of a rental but cut off all the the other information. When I confronted him he was like I am truthful... "it true what I said". When I said we talked to the home owners and it's not. He disappeared.

I’m a landlord wanting to post my home…

I’m a landlord wanting to post my home on affordable housing. My city told me to create an account on affordable housing, however, i don’t trust sharing my deed with these people. There has been to many fraudulent deed cases. It’s unfortunate that there’s no way around this because someone out there is in need of a home, and I’m ready to rent mine out,

Do not trust the listings on this site

Do not trust the listings on this site. I just recently had a very traumatic experience. I was told that a review and paperwork to establish a new listing is required. Well in my experience I trusted a listing which turned out to be a nightmare! The listed landlord was not the owner or landlord of the property! The listing should not have been allowed due to the fact that it is not available!! Long story short I’m out of 1200 dollars for a security deposit. I reached out to the customer service and was treated with no compassion with the 1st representative, but Mo the supervisor was very helpful. All I can say is we need to do better with our business to do the full job of investigating the potential renters! In conclusion I’m very sad and disappointed, on the other hand I believe something better is coming! Sincerely, SaRae,,, Connecticut

I had the worse experience with…

I had the worse experience with affordablehousing. Im a homeowner and I was trying to post my rental for the very first time on their website. My account was pending for a couple of days so I finally called to see why and they told me my account is on hold due to verifying information. When I asked what exactly they needed and they requested my deed to my house. I told them that no where on their website to sign up requirements to send the deed and I dont feel comfortable sending my deed. I tried talking to someone else through chat and they told me not to send my deed and to call again and just talk to someone else but when I did they told me the same about sending my deed. I have had a couple of family members that use affordablehousing to post their rentals and they never were ask to send their deed.

DISCRIMINATORY HOUSING PRACTICES

Review: Discrimination Disguised as “Screening” — My Experience With Yuchen Qi & Gersie Schweizer (AffordableHousing.com)

I am exhausted and fed up with what landlords and realtors on “affordable housing” platforms pretend to be: open, inclusive, and fair. They respond quickly, act eager to schedule tours, and seem ready to help — until they find out who you are.

I contacted Yuchen Qi on AffordableHousing.com regarding a house for rent. He immediately offered me a tour. Everything was moving smoothly. I disclosed nothing personal — not my race, not my disability, and certainly not my decades-old past.

Then, without warning, the enthusiasm died and I received this canned, dismissive response:

“We’ll contact you if we decide you’re a good fit.”

No explanation.
No professionalism.
Just a sudden door slammed shut.

Then — as if playing games — he contacted me again, asking if I still wanted a tour. I said yes. Suddenly his tone changed yet again:

“I need to check with the landlord first.”

At that point, it was obvious:
The moment he googled my name, something changed.

And Gersie Schweizer, another landlord on the same platform, did the exact same thing. Initial interest turned into the identical dismissive line:

“If you’re a good fit, we’ll contact you.”

The odds of two separate landlords suddenly changing their tune after initial enthusiasm — with no new information from me — is not coincidence.
It’s a pattern.

And let’s be very clear:
These aren’t rundown rentals in neglected areas.
These are houses in highly desirable neighborhoods with A-rated schools.

Based on the abrupt silence after what was clearly an online search of my name, the message felt loud and unmistakable:

“We don’t want someone like you in this neighborhood.”

Here are the facts — my actual, documented history:

✅ Current rental: 2014–present
✅ Previous rental: 2009–2014
✅ Returned full $1,000 deposit because I left the house spotless
✅ Always pay rent on time
✅ Clean, quiet, respectful, non-smoker, no pets
✅ Two well-mannered, high-achieving children (honor roll since 1st grade)
✅ 34 years of stable, responsible tenancy

Yet none of that mattered.

Instead of being judged on:
• my rental history
• my reliability
• my proven responsibility

I was judged on:

❌ something someone dug up on Google from 30+ years ago
❌ the color of my skin
❌ my disability

In my opinion, this wasn’t “screening.”
It was discrimination hiding behind vague excuses.

The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination based on race and disability, and multiple jurisdictions are limiting the use of old criminal history because it has zero relevance to who a person is today.

Housing should be based on qualifications, not stereotypes.

I am a responsible tenant.
I provide stability for my family.
I care for every house as if it were my own.

And the most telling part?

I still have not heard anything back from
Yuchen Qi or Gersie Schweizer.

Silence speaks volumes.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING, CALLS CALLS -CLICK- THEY HANG UP ON YOU!!!!

I keep getting phone calls from affordable housing and as soon as you question anything they disconnect the call that tells me that they’re scamming yet the Housing Authority has affordable housing listed on the website. But to get hung up on, that’s never a good thing and it’s bad customer service. It’s bad everything and affordable housing isn’t supposed to be a membership where you have to pay for it or the housing Authority would not have it on there so chalk it up to them being a scam why would you pay $79 a month when you can get the list from the Housing Authority for nothing? THEY CALL DAILY AT TIMES but they always hang up on you just for a question that’s a red flag the biggest one of all!!

Intentionally confusing

I don't understand anything about this website all it does is allow you to push on pop on questions and try to get a couple answers as to like why should I be on section 8? And my eligible for section 8? There is no such thing as searching for apartments on their website and there is no such thing as contacting anyone for any kind of help I don't understand what kind of a website this is but it is misrepresented from the minute you click on it to the minute you go on and the moment you get off. I've never seen such misrepresentation but it seems like social media as I'm non-social as it really is is so delusional anymore it's just ridiculous to find anyone who knows what they're doing you find anyone who cares everybody's invisible everything you click on lead you to blank walls I mean what could be worse it's like going blind and walking down the street with your hands out eventually you're going to be doomed if it's just as frustrating to.. we all know that the biggest problem right now is that a lot of places especially through Drexel Hill Clifton heights Springfield havertown Delaware county the lot of landlords are rejecting to rent to anybody with a housing choice voucher. And we know the reason for that. Instead of it being for elderly people as it was when it was very first started and people like older veterans they have stuck on as many addicts drug addicts alcoholics and mentally ill people that no one wants to rent to they're tired their properties being destroyed their apartments being lived in by people who fill it up with trash and become hoarders there has to be a change in the system people who have emotional problems and who have these disabilities need to be in mental hospitals or facilities they need to open them back up and anyone who's an addict or of any kind needs to be placed in a halfway house or someplace where they can be monitored and watched. You cannot have people running around the streets anymore living in normal apartment buildings in areas causing problems for other people just because they have an emotional problem.

Thanks for sharing this—and I’m really sorry for the frustration. A couple of clarifications that may help: posting and managing a listing on AffordableHousing.com is always free. Premium is optional for extra features only, and we never require a payment to talk to Support or “unlock” an account. We do verify every property owner to keep scammers off the site; during that verification, some accounts can be temporarily restricted, which may have felt like a block. If that happened here, I’m sorry for the confusion and the glitch you ran into.

We’d love to make this right. Please reach our team at (866) 466-7328 and we’ll review your membership and refunds, restore access, or move you to the free plan—whatever you prefer. If you’d rather keep it here, send us a private message and we’ll have a manager follow up.
