Affordable, friendly and flexible childcare

My boys love going to the after school clubs and holiday camps. Always a variety of activities for them to do and they always come home ready for bed! WIN!
I am very grateful to have this as a childcare option in our very busy and ever-changing work/lifestyle.
It's great to have the flexibility of choosing one date or the full course 😀

My daughter loves going to camp

My daughter loves going to camp. Varied activities. It's great the kids are recognised for good behaviour and things with 'star of the day' every day. She's come back with 2 t-shirts and is not only mega proud, but happy and has met new friends too. Makes me proud.

Office staff are extremely useful too. Thanks for making it a fab experience all round.

Activeforall provides a decent holiday…

Activeforall provides a decent holiday club experience with friendly staff who take good care of the children. While my kids enjoyed their time there, the variety of activities could improve to keep them more engaged. The booking process can be confusing and might lead to issues like double-booking, and technical errors are frequent. Some expectations about the activities weren't met, as my daughter found certain days less exciting than anticipated. Overall, it's a satisfactory option with room for improvement.

I wouldn't say it was a great…

I wouldn't say it was a great experience. First time booking with them for our son for October half term and they cancelled the whole thing leaving us a bit stuck, so hard to say anything positive.

Bitterne holiday camp

My children attended for most of the summer holidays. The staff are very friendly and seem to look after the children well. I would only suggest more varied activities are organised for the kids to keep them engaged. E.g organised team games or going off site to the park if possible

Egregious violation of safeguarding norms

I would not recommend this company for young children.

I picked up my Year R child from one of their after-school activities in a very unwell state. She was displaying symptoms of heat stroke, was wearing too many clothes for the hot weather and the staff did not attempt to remove the clothes or check her temperature (she had 40+ degree temperature and was very, very red in the face). The staff simply handed her back to me after the activity saying they had been told (by the class teacher that dropped her off) that she was tired. Instead of calling her parents to alert us of her state (my child was distressed, red in the face, lethargic to the point where she couldn't walk, and very hot to the touch), they left her to sleep on the table in a hot room with a cardigan on in hot weather for an hour...In young children, heatstroke can have severe consequences especially if left untreated for long periods of time; I found the staff's clear lack of knowledge and passivity alarming and will not be taking my child back to this activity. My daughter's temperature stayed alarmingly high for 4 days after this incident, even though we were medicating her to bring it down, took her to a GP and was displaying no signs of infection.

Aside from the often very junior and clearly not properly trained staff, there is no one else at Active for All that parents can speak to in case of an emergency. The generic switchboard number and email address on the website are not monitored out of hours.

Having checked this company's website, I found that they pay their staff very little (between £9 and £10 per hour, below the National Living Wage, which might explain why they all seem to be young and very inexperienced) and their requirements for hiring staff are very minimal.

The way this incident was managed after the fact was also very poor. The owner of the club replied to my email a few days later saying he would look into it. It took me 4 weeks and several emails (I had to chase him) to find out what he did about the incident -- he laid the worker off because of this and other issues. He never called us, never apologized for what happened, and never volunteered any sort of information to us -- I had to chase him and insist to find out what had happened.

In short, I would not recommend this company for young children; their staff is not trained to deal with issues and, if something happens to your child, you may find that they deflect blame rather than constructively and maturely engage with parents. The communication is very, very poor when something bad happens -- you'll find that getting any sort of information out of them is like pulling teeth.

Cronky website

The clubs are listed on the same page, but each has its own booking button and you can't book two at once. Except when you go back to book the second club that you couldn't book the first time: if you're not careful, you find yourself double-booking the first when you book the second. Then when you've successfully negotiated those quirks, you get a confirmation page with an error message saying a fatal exception occurred. Every time.
