  1. Fireplace Store

Written by the company

Fireplace in London, Acquisitions Company has a large selection of fireplaces and stoves all available at our showroom, shop and store in London. Book your fireplace today by visiting our website, before it’s too late. Even in these days of ubiquitous central heating, a house does not seem like a home without a hearth. Whether used for warmth or simply for its aesthetic value, a beautiful fireplace is always a focal point, an imposing presence that lends architectural elegance to its surroundings. Founded in 1974, Acquisitions began life as an architectural antiques business but soon specialised in rescuing beautiful antique fireplaces that had been evicted from their home in the name of fashion. As suitable originals became scarcer, we set about the ambitious task of replicating Victorian cast-iron fireplaces, and were proud to lead the way in restoring the period mantelpiece to its rightful place in the British public's consciousness. Today, the Acquisitions collection of ‘continuations’ – the word ‘reproductions’ does not do our products justice, since they are so faithfully recreated using authentic skills, techniques and materials – is one of the finest and most comprehensive in the world, encompassing every material from marble to cast iron, and every style from Georgian to modern-day. While notable clients have included pop stars, film icons and denizens of 10 Downing Street, The White House and Buckingham Palace, we are pleased to offer everything from private commissions to competitively priced models. Catering for every taste and setting, we are also the leading manufacturer of flueless wall-mounted fires with our range of contemporary X-FIRES, and produce a beautiful collection of British-made multi-fuel and gas stoves as well as Luxury high end balanced flue gas fires. What's more, we are able to deliver anywhere in the world through our network of stockists, all of whom offer a professional fitting service.

Beware pricing!

Acquisitions supplied and fitted a Dru gas fire for us. Not cheap. Installation was a stop-start process during which the installers broke the marble hearth in front of the fireplace (and subsequently restored it largely invisibly). This year we were quoted £395+VAT for an annual service and internal battery replacement. It was done via another London fireplace supplier for 1/3 that price.

Service of the highest quality

We wanted a period fireplace to install in our 100 year old new home. We bought Boudoir, a reproduction from Eltham Palace. Every aspect of our dealing with Jonathan at Acquisitions was highly professional. Excellent service throughout from first meeting to installation - cannot recommend the team highly enough.

“Grate” service

We recently used Acquisitions to supply and install an Adam style fireplace with a Portuguese Limestone mantelpiece. From start to finish we received fast, polite service, keen prices and excellent workmen who arrived on time as promised and left our home clean and tidy. I would not hesitate to highly recommend them.

Based on our experience

Based on our experience, do NOT use this company. They have a slick sales operation but standards slip dramatically once they’ve got your money - and they demand it all up front so when things go wrong you’ll have no recourse. On the day of installation we had to fight to get them to cover our expensive soft furnishings, the hearths of both our 2 new fireplaces were too small and when I called the office to speak to the owner I was told he was too busy (he still hasn’t called me back). Consequently, the whole of the ground floor of our house was left as a building site for a week whilst new hearths were ordered. We were offered no compensation. Finally the fitted fireplaces aren’t the same as we were shown and ordered in the showroom. Anybody can make an honest mistake but it’s clear this company lacks integrity, the customer doesn’t come first and the current owner only cares about making money. Avoid at all costs!

They seem like they know what they are…

They seem like they know what they are doing and they do! but they are con artists. They will rip you off.

Ask someone who independently installs fireplaces what they think of them, ask two or three professionals, the weird thing is that they all use the same expletive.

Their fireplaces look only vaguely like the brochures, you get simpler, knock-off versions when you buy.

If you need a design modified, they will be happy to charge you extra only to send you their standard size so you have to change your hearth etc. or send it back and wait push your project back a few months.

Both these things happened to me, plus they were generally lying to me and delayed me for many months until the fireplace arrived packaged from abroad, most likely China.
Chinese factories make high quality stuff these days, so buy direct, they are much more honest.
