Stay away from these cowboys

Stay away from these cowboys. Bunch of liars and useless. Had so much trouble at leaving a property I was renting because their new tenant failed to move in to a moldy house. Even after I gave all keys and cleaned house still tried to make me liable for rent & bills. Now after 2.5years I get letters to pay bills that the property was empty. Do yourself a favour and stay away.

Awful experience as a buyer

We had an offer accepted on a property being sold through Acorn earlier this year and were genuinely looking forward to progressing with the purchase.

Unfortunately, during the sales process, our own buyer requested a reduction in the price that we were not prepared to agree to due to the financial implications for us. We were told by Acorn that our seller and the top of the chain were also unwilling to reduce their prices.

Based on this information, we made the extremely difficult decision to withdraw from the purchase, believing that there was no way for the chain to proceed financially.

We were then contacted directly by the seller, who told us that Acorn had never actually communicated our buyer's request for a reduction to them. The seller was, in fact, willing to reduce their asking price to help us keep the chain together.

This was incredibly frustrating and upsetting, as the situation could potentially have caused the entire chain to collapse much earlier than it ultimately did. Had the information been communicated properly in the first place, we may have been able to find a solution without having to withdraw.

Following this incident, our communication with Acorn effectively stopped. Despite having an accepted offer on the property, we received very little meaningful communication from them.

Unfortunately, just before exchange, our own buyers eventually pulled out of our sale. We still hoped that we would be able to keep our offer on the property and continue with the purchase once we resolved our own situation. However, we were never informed that the property had been put back on the market, nor were we advised that our offer was no longer being considered.

What is particularly disappointing is that we have now discovered that a new offer has been accepted on the property, yet there has been absolutely no communication from Acorn to us. We were left to find this out ourselves.

We completely understand that circumstances can change during a property transaction and that an estate agent has a responsibility to their seller. However, we believe that basic communication, honesty and professionalism should still be expected, particularly when dealing with a buyer who has already had an offer accepted and has invested significant time, money and emotion into the process.

Our experience with Acorn has been extremely disappointing. The lack of communication, particularly following the earlier issue regarding the price reduction, has left us feeling completely disregarded as a buyer.

Buying a home is one of the biggest and most life-changing decisions people make. We appreciate that transactions can fall apart, but that makes clear and honest communication even more important.

Unfortunately, based on our experience, this is not how we expected to be treated throughout such an important process.
