Great product, but...

We needed to make foot molds to make custom shoes for a young lady with a deformed foot problem. The video implied that you have time to mix one bag of alginate and then the other. We found that the alginate set up so quickly that by the time we had the second bag prepared we had already lost our window of opportunity to get her foot in the liquid.
We had to reorder another kit for the first mold that failed, and the order took forever to be shipped (13 days to fill the order, plus transit time).
A great product, but plan lots of lead time for delivery and very little time for the alginate to cure!

I gave this one star because I followed…

I gave this one star because I followed every step the instructions showed and it was a complete waste. It never mixed the way it should have. It was lumpy and hard. I don’t think they’re ratios for water are correct.

The foot casting kit was great

The foot casting kit was great. With the easy to follow video demonstration, the students were able to make a life-like foot for their TSA project. The foot, painted to look like it had a bad case of athlete's foot, was the hit of the competition in Seattle. The student won first place in their category for State and will be off to Washington D.C. to compete in Nationals this summer.

Thank you so much for the awesome kit,

Great product, less great shipping times.

I love the products, I have great success using them. The website has lots of advice and information to help you. The customer support is fabulous. I’ve always had great luck asking a question either by phone or email. Very attentive and happy to answer product questions or even trouble shoot with you. BUT if your order is less than the 50 dollars required for free shipping, the shipping cost is very high. My most recent order also took 20 days from the time I placed the order until it was in my hands. It took so long that I had to go out and buy other products to complete a project for a client.

Better to just stand...

I wanted to make casts of both of my feet. Neither came out well. The toes were mishaped and there was a large spoon-like depression on the surface of one of the toes. I think the issue was mainly my fault as I was trying to suspend my foot to make sure i also got an impression of the sole. Even seated during the process, I think my foot moved slightly causing the irregularities. I believe the spoon-shaped depressions were large air bubbles. I followed instructions carefully, used distilled water, made sure the temp was correct, was able to stay on time with the video and they still both were a mess. I think IF I tried again (too expensive to do that), I would forget about trying to keep my foot suspended.

Pretty easy with little mess

It took me two tries to get a completely finished product, but the results were quite good. One has to expect a hiccup or two and some learning-by-doing. My problem the first time was I apparently did not work fast enough with the alginate. It began setting before I had finished covering the framed-in area. I continued through all the steps successfully to practice the whole process. Even the partially unfinished first try looks pretty cool. It looks like a fragment of an ancient statue. The second time I used room-temperature distilled water rather than 80 degree, hard, tap water. That gave me more time to work. No problem finishing the alginate. The beauty of these kits is the pre-measured bags to which you simply add the prescribed amount of water. Mixing is very easy.and almost fool-proof if you simply follow directions. No buckets and drill mixers. No doubts about the quantity of water. Moreover, clean-up is simplified if one works directly from the bag with the plaster. The alginate cleans up easily since it does not stick to anything. When doing the stone cast, make sure to get the plaster into the nipple depressions before covering the rest of the mold.. Air holes love to form there in spite of my extra attention to getting the plaster into those spots. This kit is fun to do, and the result is just as shown. The staff here has been very helpful with answering questions and providing materials. Next I will tackle the full-torso kit. One shortfall is that my two kits had only 4-inch plaster bandages, no 3-inch as itemized. Simple fix: I trimmed some down to 3 inches with a scissors. Price is great for the high quality and user-friendly kit. Give it a try. Both you and your model will like the results.

Everything in the box was nicely…

Everything in the box was nicely packaged and labeled, and the included DVD made it easy to follow the directions! We made two foot casts for custom shoe fitting, and they came out perfectly with less than an hour’s work (plus some setting time).
