I am forced to use this abysmal company…

I am forced to use this abysmal company by my workplace. Every interaction is a pain. It takes them days to reply to anything and they ignore the parts of the email that they don't want to deal with.

I have ordered two laptops from them. The first (circa 2016) didn't appear for 2 months and then they contacted me to say they didn't expect it for a further 2 months and to choose a different (inferior) laptop. The most recent (2025) has also not appeared for 2 months, and I have again been told to choose an inferior model or wait another 2 months.

My local PC stores have the laptop I have requested in stock. It's available everywhere online. I really do not understand what hold this crappy company has on its business consumers.

Sneaky company - impossible to return tech products!

I (a PhD student) purchased an Apple Magic Mouse from them, thinking I would have a right to return it under UK customer protection laws (14-day statutory right of return for online orders). However, they declared my purchase as a B2B transaction (instead of B2C), hence circumventing the right to return and inserting a clause at the bottom of the T&Cs stating: "28.6. For a return to be valid, the goods must be in pristine condition with the manufacturer's seal still intact." Since one inevitably HAS to break the seal to examine the product, it becomes impossible to return products. Very sneaky!

We purchased a Logitech product from…

We purchased a Logitech product from Academia - The Technology Group. The keyboard failed and despite the product being under warranty, Academia refused to help repair or replace the product. They told us to contact Logitech directly, which, given they are in the USA, cost us time and money to pursue - only to be be told by Logitech to contact the retailer (Academia). Obviously, our contract is with Academia, but as we have not been able to resolve this quickly, we have had to buy another keyboard so our son can continue his GCSE work. We will get our money back as we are making a claim in the small claims court. Based on our experience, I would never use this company again, as they refuse to stand behind the product warranties of the goods they sell. very, very disappointing given this related to a child and his education.

Not recommended

As a full time employee of Academia, who was implanted at a customer site, I could see the true side of the company. There are some great members of staff, but they take on contracts that are too big for them to handle. This means that managers aren't able to provide the support to staff, resulting in the quality of the service to the customer being reduced. From slow deliveries, customers not being told the same information as colleagues at Academia, to how they treat their staff - it all adds up and results in a low quality service provided. I would not recommend Academia to any business or educational institution that is looking for IT services. There are plenty of other providers around, or an in house team would do much better.

AVOID - Only out for the money. No customer service.

AVOID. Very poor customer service. Failed to recognise a manufacturing fault on a new Macbook Pro which has been an issue on the M1 computers, and other UK companies have recognised it. The screens on some batches of these macbooks are very thin, and not fit for purpose. Mine cracked when I placed my thumb on it - no undue pressure and with everyday use - I was not doing anything that isn't done with laptops on an everyday basis. I had had the machine for 1 day but academia would not replace it or repair under warranty. They only care about the money and not about selling substandard machines. AVOID.
