What a fantastic trip out to abyss, i went here years ago when it first started, i was very surprised by how much they have improved over the years, the place is fantastic, clean tanks, knowledgable and helpful staff, their displays and aquarium accessories also excellent. Bought some fish online from them as it is far from me, beautiful panda garra's, came boxed in polystyrene with heat pack, each fish individually bagged inside for 24 hour delivery, courier service excellent, kept in touch all the way. What can I say I have actually found a online seller that send what you ordered and when they say it will be delivered mega packing all I can say is thank you, you have gained a new customer

Read lots of reviews on here I would say great shop great choice great knowledge however very expensive compared to other shops and push there brands 100 % all the time . I buy plants but you have to be careful some are not good prior to buying still full price new deliveries every week

I ordered six Clown Loaches from Abyss Aquatics, advertised as Large (7+ cm). However, the fish I received were undersized at only around 6 cm, far smaller than what was promised.

The fish also arrived in poor water conditions. I tested the water, and the nitrate levels were dangerously high, far beyond what is safe for fish. Shipping live fish in such poor water quality is against pet shop licensing standards, which require sellers to ensure the health and proper care of animals before posting. These conditions could have caused severe stress or even death to the fish.

I contacted Abyss Aquatics twice to resolve this issue and provided photo evidence. They responded to my first email but have ignored my second follow-up, leaving the problem unresolved. Due to their lack of accountability, I am now taking this matter further via PayPal to seek a resolution.

I cannot recommend Abyss Aquatics and strongly urge them to improve their practices for the health of the animals they sell and the satisfaction of their customers.

Absolutely amazing from order to delivery
Placed my order for 5 green chromis.. within minutes I recieved my email to pick delivery day.. all arrived bagged separately with what looks to be small carbon pouches to keep water as clean as possible, all fish look very healthy & are now happily acclimatised & exploring their new home, HIGHLY RECOMMEND & will definitely be ordering from Abyss again soon

This was my first time at the aquatics shop, it’s a very big shop, ok variety of tropical fish & Koi. Reasonable prices. Staff was very helpful and even gave great advice on a problem I had with my current Fluval filter, which her advice worked when tried it. A found that there were quite a few empty tanks and the business has the potential to add lots of more variety of fish. I would definitely come back for more tropical fish. Helpfulness of staff and got the fish I wanted + clean and tidy tanks. 5-stars.

Recently bought corals. Excellent communication all the way through. Corals were well packaged and had clear instructions in the box. Would definitely use them again.

Ordered a large juvenile Queen angelfish for my reef tank - first time I think I did so for an online store.

Delivery arrived on time and well packaged.

I followed the very careful instructions, letting the fish slowly acclimate in the dark in my sump before releasing it into the display tank with the lights off.

A month or so later and it's doing very well in my busy semi-aggressive tank, putting on weight and maintaining its pecking order.

Second time ordering from abyss aquatic and was great again. Fish were well packaged and healthy. One of the platies was also pregnant and i now have baby fish. Will order again from this company when I need more.

The whole process was just great I ordered paid picked the delivery day took delivery of my new little beauty's I found a small packet of sweets in the box with a note of thanks from the warehouse staff even got instructions for getting fish from there bags to the tank which if you are a new fish keeper is really excellent

My experience with Abyss was not terrible until recently !
Had place an order in a few days receive a call from a lady that a fish I purchased (pyramid butterfly)can't be delivered to me due to marks on the fins or not suitable for sale !
I was given the option -directed to more expensive butterfly fish which supposedly is healthy.
Sadly it wasn't the case
The fish looked ok after acclimation i p lace them in the tank and the issues start w days after
Had never bumped to velvet disease and did not recognize it at first.
A friend of mind spot it and said you have velvet on your butterfly fish ! It wasn't showing on my other fish
It quickly spread
The film blenny i bought from abyss died on the third day .
I messaged the sales team ...... No response at all just ignored my email. At least they could have said sorry .
Did my research
Put all my remaining fish in a QT
But I lost the butterfly my lemon angel and half of the fish in my tank.
Thank you very much for your quarantine (overprized ill ) fish.
I learn the hard way trust no one

Watch out for velvet when you buy from abyss!

Some interesting comments on here about Abyss. I can only speak of my experience.

I purchased 5 Corydoras Sterbai from Abyss via their website. These fish were marked as XL. Abyss rang me to confirm I would be able to take the delivery the following day. I then received an email from DX who were the couriers. Fish arrived within the stated time. The fish was very well packaged and there were clear instructions on how to introduce the fish to my aquarium. The fish were enormous! Much bigger than the other fish I had paid nearly as much for from my local aquarist supply.

My experience of using Abyss is faultless and I would buy from them again.

Easily the best mail order aquatics shop I've used. Prices were good, communication and livestock welfare excellent.

I wish I had read this review page on Trustpilot before placing my order with Abyss Aquatic. On 18 March 2024 I spent £140 including delivery and late last year just under £100 with this company.

On the day of delivery 20 March 2024, the order should have been with me before 1 pm and it didn't turn up until approximately 16.20 which made me miss my appointment because I had to wait in and not even a message or call from Abyss Aquatic to say the delivery was running late so I contacted them and spoke with Hannah and explained the late arrival of the delivery and explain my concern about the quality of some of the animals with a possible loss and her advice was to take photo's before opening the bags and acclimatise and then send pictures to them which I did later that night and confirm the death of a starfish and a snail.

The following morning I got a message back from someone at Abyss Aquatic who couldn't be bothered to be professional and put a name to the email but said "The starfish has erect tube feet They can only extend these when they are alive." nothing about late delivery, death of snail which cost £6.99 or sorry about late delivery or death of animals.

On 22 March 2024, I sent an email to Abyss and said "Thank you for your reply, Have you ever known something to die always in a flat position? the starfish has died and if you look between the legs at the top you will see the deterioration of the skin and what about the dead snail?" and got no reply.

On 23 March 2024, I sent a formal letter of complaint about the service, no names on emails, the amount of money I spent with them in the last 6 months, their silly note in the box "Hey, thanks for being sweet & placing an order with us. As a brick & mortar shop (some of the mortar in the brain) that employs lots of a***** (people), your support helps us pay wages & (and we steal) your money to stay afloat hopefully we've impressed you enough that you will shop with us again and get conned.

On 24 March 2024, this is part of what I got back - "In this case, I do have to defer to the expertise of my colleagues. The starfish doesn’t look unwell in these images. It gives me no satisfaction to be unhelpful and I would rather not fall out with a valued customer. If there is anything else I can help with. I will be more than happy to.

Ordered a couple of marine fish, both healthy and doing very well. Customer service was brilliant, I was contacted and kept upto date regarding delivery. Would highly recommend 👍

Received my first online order from abyss today and I'm very happy with my order, everything is in good health (corals and inverts) and they done a great job with the packaging of everything.

You can also request get your orders delivered on a Saturday which is a great for me as I'd have to take a day off granted you pay little more but I'd rather that then waste a days holiday

Highly recommend using them for online orders of livestock if that's what your after and I'll no doubt be using them again in the future
