Transmission Problem with 2018 Nissan Rogue

September 24, 2024

Nissan North America, Inc.
1 Nissan Way
Franklin, Tennessee 37067

Re: Vehicle Vin #

To The Legal Department of Nissan North America, Inc.,

I am the owner of a 2018 Nissan Rogue with approximately 56,000 miles on it. I leased the Rogue in August of 2018 and purchased the car on August 27, 2021 from Sansone Jr.’s 66 Automall service located at 3401 New Jersey 66, Tinton Falls, New Jersey 732-922-1050 .
For the last year, I am experiencing a problem accelerating the car to the highway speed after stop and go traffic. It will not go past thirty miles per hour and will not switch into the next gear. This has happened on at least five occasions. I will be driving at a highway speed of approximately 65 mph and then I must come to a stop due to traffic. When I try to regain the highway speed of 65 mph again, I am unable to do so. I must pull over on the highway and shut the car off. Once I restart the car, I can reach highway speed again. This is extremely dangerous when driving on a highway. There is not always a safe place to pull the car over, so I must put my hazard lights on and slowly navigate to an exit.
My personal mechanic consulted with his transmission person and was advised that the transmissions used in the 2018 Nissan Rogue model have been defective in some cases.
I made an appointed with Sansone Jr.’s 66 Automall service located at 3401 New Jersey 66, Tinton Falls, New Jersey 732-922-1050 on August 26, 2024 to inspect the problem with my car. After two days, I was advised by Elizabeth that the mechanics were unable to recreate the scenario in my car. The mechanic drove it for approximately 40 miles. But she did not know if a traffic jam was encountered when testing the car. The mechanic serviced my car for two recalls in the hope that it would remedy the problem.
IT DID NOT. Now, it happened again on September 8, 2024 recently when I was driving on a local road in stop and go traffic. I was traveling at approximate speed of 25 miles per hour for approximately 30 minutes in stop and go traffic.
I reached out to Nissan Consumer Affairs on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 and opened a case # and spoke to Farihat. In addition, I received an email from Kentrese the Consumer Affairs Representative of Nissan North America stating a case # has been created. Kentrese called me on Monday, September 24, 2024 and said there is nothing that can be done. The Nissan Dealership located at Sansone Jr.’s 66 Automall service located at 3401 New Jersey 66, Tinton Falls, New Jersey 732-922-1050 was consulted and was unable to recreate the above driving scenario. I offered to submit sworn affidavits from passengers in my car attesting to the sound of the engine and the inability of the car to excel to the normal speed limit once encountered with stop and go traffic. But the offer was declined.
On Thursday, October 3, 2024 I had another service appointment with Sansone Jr.’s 66 Automall service located at 3401 New Jersey 66, Tinton Falls, New Jersey 732-922-1050. The mechanics were too busy to take me out for more than 20 minutes to test my car. However, a manager from Mitsubishi was kind enough to take me out with him for another road test to try to recreate the acceleration problem. The Rogue did not recreate the scenario of not being able to accelerate, but he was able to simulate the problem by putting the car in a manual mode. Each new gear worked but through the manual process. At the end of the test, it was decided that another mechanic was going to take the car for the weekend and try to recreate the problem of the car not excelling to the speed limit once it is caught in stop and go traffic. This is an extremely dangerous position to put a driver in. I had no choice, but to pay for a rental car while Nissan is testing the car. Nissan will only provide a loaner car if they can recreate the problems.
I am extremely upset that Nissan allowed me to leave with a car back in August of 2024 that has been known to them to have transmission problems. If you google Nissan Rogue 2018 there is an abundance of documentation citing problems with the transmissions in the 2018 Rogue. Even the gentleman in the waiting room who overheard my plight confirmed that he too had to get a new transmission in his Rouge and Nissan paid 90% of the costs. He had to fight for it, he said.
Now I am without my car, paying for a rental car and I am having a difficult time getting through to the Mechanic to get an update.
This is a nightmare.

Rogue Regular Maintenance

Went perfectly, as always at Sansone Jr, 2nd car from there. However they did not turn the idiot lights off for routine maintenance, and I have not gotten an afternoon to run back down there and get it done.

Professional and Pleasant

The Service Department, particularly Danielle and Jessica, have always shown they care about the customer and do whatever it takes to resolve problems.
I would highly recommend this dealership's Service Department when considering a new or used car purchase.

Not happy with oil change

I have been using full synthetic oil in my truck from the time I bought my 2013 frontier. My last oil change I ask for full synthetic oil. The boys that change the oil put regular oil....if the service adviser didn't check, I would be driving around with regular oil. I had my oil changed at your service department many time. Now I'm not sure if they put regular oil or synthetic oil when I payed for synthetic....not a happy coustmer.

could have been better

After the papers were signed and i was happy driving off the lot thinking i was satisfied with my deal, A week later i come to find the $3,935.00 I put as money down on the vehicle was never placed towards the loan from the bank. In turn raising my monthly payments without my consent. Now i have to have to renegotiate my original agreed terms with the bank thanks to a mistake in your FINANCE department. I found it disappointing how poorly the problem was addressed when I called 5 times in 2 weeks for a response from your dealership and always got the "we'll call you back speech". Even from JOHN one of your floor managers. Very disappointing. Saddest part is no one can tell me where my money went, and I had to call USAA to find out that the problem was noted and was being worked out on their end. Kind of scary that the dealership was unaware of those details. USAA true car buying service -5 STARS. SAMSON JR 66 AUTO MALL -2 STARS...still waiting on john to "call me back". I won't hold my breath but I will wait until the last day possible for me to do their survey enthusiastically on line which they have sent non-stop reminders for me to fill out to my gmail account. THANKS SANSONE (SMILEY FACE)

2012 Nissan Sentra

I had purchased a car in march. Everyone was very helpful at first, or well with certain things. Finance was great with getting me a great deal with what i owed and how much i wanted to spend. So i give them an A+ there. My car had just come on the lot so they said it would be a day or 2 till I could take it home, it ended up being over a week. Then the payoff that was supposed to be sent was not paid even though I was told by multiple people it was sent out, miraculously it got over nighted 2 weeks later after i had the finance company call them. Whi ch put a negative mark on my credit. But parts was great when my car wouldn't move out of gear they sent a tow truck and all, as they should have. But due to being lied to about the pay off i will not recommend

Pressure

As with most car dealers, once they get their hooks into you they put the full court press on to sell you a car. But they are sneaky and manipulate numbers despite agreeing to a certain number and then they tell you that you cant have the color you want, you have to take this other color. Nuts but I turned it around and got several accessories out of them at their cost which they tried to build in but I caught during the signing process. I also got 2 years free maintenance (unlimited miles no coupons) out of them since I had to settle for a different color. Be prepared with a price in mind, have lots of time to kill, negotiagte, negotiate, negotiate.

Best Overall New Car Buying Experience I've Ever Had

Over the years I've bought several new and used cars from dealerships in the NY^/NJ area and I can honestly say that the recent purchase of my new Nissan Frontier was the best experience I've ever had at a new car dealership.

The folks at Sansone Jrs 66 were friendly, honest and knowledgeable. They were willing to search other dealer's inventory to find the truck that I wanted and didn't try to up-sell me on something else, like some of the other dealers I visited during this recent purchase.

Also, during the price negotiating, their sales people were honest, straightforward and transparent. They recognized that in this internet age, buyers have done their "homework", are educated, have access to buying tools and have a good idea of dealer costs, pricing, etc. This made the negotiation short & sweet and I think a "win - win" for both me and the dealership.

The dealership itself is clean, big, they have a lot of cars and is a pleasant place to buy a car.

HORRIBLE...WORST EXPERIENCE

Worst experience I ever had in a car dealership . Promised me everything, gave me nothing. Took my payment without me getting the car. Called them numerous times and was left on hold...management and sales were NOT professional at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Problem not fixed

before making a deal I noticed few scratches on the truck . I was told not to worry that all that will be taking care of. Well they took the truck to the service are and after 30 minutes brought the truck back to me. It was after 9 pm so it look nice and shiny looking on it with the light on my iPhone. Next day , sunny day, my husband and I went to look outside and I teard up seeing how bad the paint looks. It seems like they took sand paper and tried bufing the car all around. John the sells manager seen it and he even said that they should never had used any machine bufer on black vehicle. Total 3 times they promised me to make the truck look better and each time looked even worse . I know once you make a deal and take your new car home you are done but my car doesn't look new. My neighbors year and a half old Audi looks newer than my car. John promised me to fix the problem but as you know promises promises. I tried calling and of course he is buisy and will call me back - that what they said. Nissan corp. called me to see how I like the truck and I told them exactly how I like it. The dealer didn't bother putting my plate numbers on but they made sure they put their logo sticker on the back of the truck bcz I took the first one off

BOOOOMMM!!!

Easiest car buying experience. Saleswoman Audra knew exactly what I was looking for and delivered. Wanda tied up the finances and made the whole process amazingly QUICK and THOROUGH.. I left with my new car that day and am still impressed with how easy Audra made the process.. It is my first Nissan ever and I am happy with the vehicle and even so happy with the process that I just may stay a Nissan Sansone Jr customer for any future vehicles..
