Zacks Investment Research is one of the largest providers of independent stock, ETF and mutual fund research in the U.S. The performance of our stock research recommendations has consistently ranked among the top research firms in the U.S. by independent evaluators of equity research. This research anchors our active trading services, long-term investor services, screening and backtesting software, and powerful resources and tools to help boost portfolio returns. At the center of everything we do is a strong commitment to independent research and sharing its profitable discoveries with investors. In fact, helping investors find success has been the life’s work of our Founder and CEO, who in 1978 armed with his PhD from MIT hit upon a key discovery: Earnings estimate revisions are the most powerful force impacting stock prices. This crucial finding led to the creation of our proven Zacks Rank stock-rating system that harnesses the power of earnings estimates. Since 1988, the private Zacks #1 Rank List has more than doubled the S&P 500, averaging +24.4% per year.

Results matter - simply could not be worse
My experience with them quite incredible - all the 1 & 2-star recommendations landed in 40 to 100% losses, from PERI through PACB or FCEL and others till GRTS - latter one actually went bankrupt. If I have made my business decisions blindfolded or guided by my mildly educated dog, I would have come out way better in the end.
Just one recent example how ridiculous they are: they have been keeping RKLB on Category 4 - Sell since April 2024 while the share price itself propelled from USD 3.5 to 20 :)
What was a strong buy a few months back…
What was a strong buy a few months back becomes a strong sell. Company fundamentals don't change that fast unless your analysis is too superficial. So, either their analysis is flawed or the volatilty of the companies reviewed is so strong you should not even bother investing. They seem much more like market manipulators than true prognosticators.

I found the service disappointing after…
I found the service disappointing after almost a year of using Zacks's premium stock-rating system. Their recommendations' performance was underwhelming, failing to outperform the general market in the portfolios I created. The user experience on their website and tools left much to be desired, proving frustrating and unintuitive.
Zacks's marketing approach is overly aggressive, bombarding subscribers with abundant low-quality content. The constant barrage of emails quickly becomes overwhelming, and unsubscribing from these communications is unnecessarily complicated.
While Zacks may have a reputation in the financial industry, my personal experience suggests their premium service falls short of expectations. The combination of mediocre stock recommendations, subpar user interface, and intrusive marketing practices makes it difficult to justify the subscription cost. Potential subscribers should carefully consider alternatives before committing to Zacks's premium service.
This company misreported the earnings…
This company misreported the earnings per share (EPS) of Hive Digital Technologies on the 12th of August 2024 as -0.08 dollars. The correct EPS is 0.03 dollars. Despite emailing them to notify them of their mistake, no amendments have been made.
I can't trust a company that doesn't even provide accurate reporting data.

A little better than Average
I have been in the investment management industry for over thirty-eight years. In my opinion, Zacks is good but far from great. My biggest issue with Zacks is that they have a banner below EVERY Premium screen that says "Backtest this screen using our Research Wizard". The reality is that you can't. The RW has lots of limitations as to what it can backtest, and it couldn't backtest most of the Premium Screens I tried to test. So, I find their statement to be a lie. When I subscribed to their Premium service, I asked my sales rep if they had backtested results for the Premium Screens. He said no, but I could backtest them using the Research Wizard. And that too, was a lie. Finally, I took a trial of their "grossly overpriced Research Wizard" and in my opinion it is horrible. It looks and feels like the antiquated DOS platform computers used before Windows. I did test a few of their built-in strategies within the Research Wizard. Some had remarkable results BUT when I ran the same test using a minimum stock price of $35 and a min average volume of 350,000 the results were horrible. As investors, we want institutional investors (i.e. mutual funds, pensions) to also be invested in the stocks we buy because THEY are the ones who move stock prices. If you like to invest in low-priced, low-volume stocks, I guess this system might work well for you. I emailed one of the top people at Zacks explaining my issues and told him I was very open to being wrong if he could just show me that was the case. Guess what...he never responded. I guess I wasn't wrong.

So I'm using simple AI program to read their Buy/Sell Alert email and then send order to my broker automatically.

Caution Advised
I feel compelled to share my experience with Zacks Investment Research, which, regrettably, fell short of my expectations. While the company frequently promotes its proprietary analytics, named after their brand, the content of their articles tends to be overly abstract with little actionable information. This creates an impression that by subscribing, one would gain exclusive insights into optimal investment timings and strategies. Unfortunately, my experience as a subscriber did not reflect this promise.
The investment recommendations provided during my subscription consistently underperformed, which was disappointing. Moreover, the customer service experience was far from professional. When I reached out to cancel my subscription, the interactions were discourteous and unhelpful.
It's important for potential subscribers to be aware of these practices. It seems that Zacks might be more focused on attracting novice investors rather than providing genuinely valuable investment insights. Approach with caution and consider a diverse array of sources and opinions before making investment decisions.
Scam Stay Away. May as well throw darts at a board.
Well clearly Zack’s has absolutely no idea what they are doing. I purchased over 30 stocks in a year and 23 of them lost money. Zacks has a “Money back guarantee” - DONT BELIVE IT. They use the loopholes to get out of it. This is what Kurt Fraser who works for Zacks - gave as a response ( see below) Even though I had 23 stocks lose money because I didn’t sell exactly within 24 hrs after they said to they won’t refund my $6000! They say even though the stock lost 10% when they sold, because I didn’t sell within 24hrs they say it doesn’t qualify lol. I’m not understanding, if they say buy at $10 and they say sell at $9.00 it’s not a loss unless I sold within the exact time they say to sell? I have 23 of these Losing recommendations. I have no doubt they have never given a refund. Complete scam STAY AWAY!
From Kurt Fraser:
David,
Despite what you say, it literally cannot get more clear that stating ‘trades must be executed within 24 hours of newsletter notifications.’ And, the wording of the performance guarantee has not changed in the 10 years that I’ve been here. It was the same when you started and the same today. Again, everyone plays by the same rules. The performance guarantee is something customers must qualify for; it’s not an obligation to refund any customer that loses $. Many customers make money using our trades, and some lose money. However, if a customer isn’t following the exact timing of our trades, then they are not following our advice. Performance refunds are reserved for customers that diligently follow our trades and timing, including 20 trades all within 1 day of the notifications. They are not reserved for customers that do not follow our advice or ‘partially’ follow our advice.
My e-mail address find on darkweb
Following a scan done on my android tablet Zacks has put, directly or indirectly, my e-mail address on the darkweb on June 16 2023.
This is probably the reason why I receive daily messages that my tablet is no longer safe
Lost a LOT to Zachs
They sent a free report. Looked professional and well informed. Took their advice and lost a LOT. Imagine if the free report is a scam what the real deal is.
Poor advice Poor service
Like many amateurs looking for an edge I got enticed by the Free trial then special offer for lifetime access to Zack's Premium.
The main things I wanted to take advantage of were the Zacks rank + ESP surprise model, hopefully helping me to get an edge on earnings call style announcements. Well this failed. For me, if Zacks rate something as a Rank #1 strong buy AND predict a large positive earnings surprise, then this should indicate a positive share price result on earnings call. However, what I found was that their zacks rank was often out of date, and for example a share that had a current price of $150 various analysts would be calling a MUCH lower target price. Poor. I don't expect them to be fully up to date on everything but most of it was just flat out of date.
Secondly was the portfolios they have where you get buy and sell indicators. I eagerly followed EVERY move in order to ensure a strong average result across the portfolio. However, it felt like I was costantly cutting large losses whilst making the odd decent return. So I went looking for information on their website where you can find ALL results for reach portfolio from the last five years.
I then produced a spreadsheet with all closed positions over the last five years, the average return was about 6% compared to the S&P average return around 2.5-3x that.
So essentially you could have just put your money into an S&P tracker for the last five years and done FAR better.
NOT what I paid over £1000 for information to achieve.
When you email them to ask questions about whether you are doing it right, or even sharing the spreadsheet you just get ignored. Meanwhile getting bombarded with offers trying to get you to buy the bigger better package from them.
Save your money and look elsewhere.
Very slow
Very slow , it doesn't tell you when your stock is in bearish, loosing and you need to sell
Don't be lazy, do your own research
I have to second some other negative reviews. Most decisions I've made through Zack's have turned out into major losses. Fortunately others I've made without considering Zack's ranking have more than made up for those losses, so that was a big learning lesson for me, i.e. don't be lazy and blindly trust a scoring system to cut your research time short.
