Today we are Wheelbase.co.uk, Wheelbase Lake District, Wheelbase Darlington and Wheelbase Yorkshire. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive and friendly store for everyone who loves cycling, whether that be road cycling, mountain biking, touring, commuting, family riding or e-Bikes.
We are a team united by a passion for bikes and we have a wide range of cycling experience amongst our sales staff, mechanics and mail order team.
Our passion for cycling is invested back into the sport through the sponsorship and support of our British Elite road race team Wheelbase CabTech Castelli.
Now in its 12th year, we hold our annual MTB demo weekend in April, attracting up to 250 riders to our Lake District store, often in spite of the wet Cumbrian weather. We have a great community of cyclists here in the Lake District and there are plenty of events going on throughout the year, including the 3 Valley Challenge in June, our Tour de Staveley in July and the Wheelbase Spring Classic in March. We offer backing to local organisations where possible and are great supporters of Kendal Cycle Club and Fix the Fells.

Great bike and service.
I picked up a new Trek Checkpoint ALR4 from the Lakeland store recently and the whole experience was great. James helped finesse the final touches on the bike to fit and add a few accessories; he also talked me through some specifics to the dismantling and maintenance of the bike. I then test rode the bike around the block several times and confirmed that it was definitely the correct bike for me. Visiting the store in Staveley also worked well as an excuse to detour through the Lakes and make a bit of a day of it. I was very happy with the price I paid and will be back for a tune up (and ride) in the area soon.
Great place to shop bikes.
I ordered a road bike online from Wheelbase and the whole experience was excellent. The bike arrived well-packaged in a box with the frame protected and the wheels wrapped securely. Assembly was incredibly simple – all I had to do was fit the front wheel and the saddle and it was ready to ride.
The bike was also on a great deal compared to other websites, making it excellent value for money. The ordering process was smooth, delivery was efficient and everything arrived in perfect condition.
I would definitely recommend Wheelbase to anyone looking for a great price and fast, reliable service. I’ll happily shop with them again.

I had a fantastic experience buying my new Colnago V5RS from Wheelbase, Ilkley. From the moment I walked in, Dom were welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about cycling. Dom took the time to explain the differences between the various Colnago models, answered all of my questions in detail, and helped me choose the bike that was the perfect fit for my needs without any pressure.
The bike was professionally built, thoroughly tested, and handed over in immaculate condition. Theo took the time to ensure the bike was correctly set up for me and offered helpful advice on maintenance and getting the most out of it.
It’s refreshing to find a local bike shop that combines exceptional customer service with honest, expert advice. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase and the overall experience. Bike transport and setup
The order processing and delivery arrangements were fantastic, great customer service. The bike was well packaged and easy to set up. However 4/5 not 5/5 because the rear deraillier hanger was bent causing the gears to skip so I had to pay a bike tech to fix it and re-index the gears. I'd still recommend Wheelbase

Avoid at all costs
Avoid at all costs. Terrible customer service. I was told I could bring bike for repair and it would be looked at immediately if I could get there with 30 minutes. I was there in 10, but was then told it would have to wait until next day. When I phoned the following day, a most uninterested Workshop Manager told me it would be at least a two week wait and there was no way it would be even looked at before then, his attitude dismissive to the point of rudeness. When I went to retrieve the bike, the level of customer service was appalling: completely ignored by first employee, then greeted with a literal grunt by the second one. Astonishingly terrible service, attitude and information.

Decided to purchase my first set of wheels and tire package after my own need replaced/repaired.
Reached out by email to ensure correct fitment and had questions regarding payment plan via klarna.
A gentleman Dave Hurst replied and even offered package for cheaper than originally priced.
Upon choosing alloy & tire package Dave called personally after ordered stating tyres I chose wouldn't be in until Monday although I had hoped to receive for Saturday, he found different tyres same specs and the complete order arrived today 2 days after order.
My new wheels are on and I'm over the moon with them they look class.

Great service from start to finish
Bought my first ever ebike through Wheelbase using the Green Commute Initiative cycle to work scheme. The whole process was smooth and straightforward, they were helpful, responsive and made the GCI process easy to navigate. The bike arrived well packaged and in perfect condition. Really happy with the overall experience and would definitely recommend Wheelbase to anyone looking to buy a quality bike online.
A disappointing experience overall
A disappointing experience with my purchase of an electric C-Line Brompton. PDI checks weren't really checked in 2 cases - one quite important, the other, less so. I sorted these myself. Wrong battery charger sent out (twice) but warranty manager got the right one plus the correct instruction manual sent out quickly. So that was a better experience and raised the score from one star to three. But I'm not inclined to buy my Brompton G Line Electric from Wheelbase I'm sorry to say.

Highly recommended, ordered a bike to collect in store , the team worked around my schedule to have it ready earlier at my request , at collection the staff couldn’t have been more helpful, even spent a good hour showing me around the bike and personalising the setup for me. Fantastic experience.
Bike arrived without pedals
Bike arrived without pedals, making it immediately unusable.
The accessories (bell, reflectors) were poorly packaged — small components were scattered loose throughout the box rather than grouped together.
Delivery by DX was equally poor. The window was 8:00–18:00 with no tracking or updates, and a £3,500 order was left unattended outside the front door during a 15-minute school run.
