Lovely looking products but

Lovely windows but having issues with some of the doors and getting the warranty work done is not happening, hopefully we can update this review with a positive outcome.

Rotting Door
We went with Rationel back in 2016. We chose them over Munster joinery thinking the quality of the product was superior. Boy were we wrong. One of our doors is already rotting behind the kick plate. Thismorning the kick plate fell off altogether.
Contacted service to be told that the guarantee had run out 2 years ago. When we purchased the guarantee was apparently only 6 years, now apparently it’s 12, even though the product is the exact same!! We were told there was nothing they could do for us except sell us a new door at full price 🙄
Very disappointing given the cost of the product compared to Munster Joinery or other companies.
Poorly made product with diabolical after sales
Whatever you do, do not use either Rationel or Velfac windows.
Here is my story and I would just urge customers to take heed
We bought rationale Windows having seen them at an exhibition… We bought them through a local distributor who was absolutely superb… He warns there might be some after sales issues if anything went wrong but they would eventually get them sorted.rationel is big blue chip Company and it’s really worth remembering this… They have very good marketing pretty good product design but when it comes to the actual product itself this is where they have cheapened everything. When you start to look at the statistics of how the product is made and what it is made from you start to get an idea of why our experience was so bad. Only an engineer would spot these things and I’m kicking myself, but I didn’t look at this before I purchased. The Timber Density used in this product is not what they claim… We took one of our damage in transit windows which we were told to dispose of and we measure the timber density . Was supposed to be an average of 500 and it was in fact 380 kg /m3 The paint thickness is one of the lowest in the industry at 80 microns . Bear in mind That water will get behind the aluminium on this product and it is going onto painted wood… When the paint thickness is only 80 µm this is almost opaque… It will make it through the warranty period but not a lot more. You obviously cannot maintain the timber behind the aluminium. The quality of fixings and fittings is very average. We took delivery of our windows in May and because our site was so behind because of the weather The distributor stored it for us… There is nothing damaged on the outside of the pallets but within the quality of the Finish was simply awful… The glazing bar did not meet the frame properly cracks in the corner mitres And overspray… There was One unit which was damaged in transit, which was a door and this was reported and replaced with no problems. Because the windows restored on a pallet, they were not inspected and actually there was no damage as such the issues above were all poor factory Finish. One would’ve thought this would all be under warranty, but they wriggle and squirm to avoid any kind Upholding of their warranty. And boy, do you need it with this company. We have bought Rationel windows for previous houses and they have been fine… The product quality has fallen off a cliff and the after sales service is one of Complete denial and resting on the terms and conditions of sales. Just as a complete joke… If you are ever referred through to the service manager who is called Chris newton You will find his mobile number listed in some of these reviews. I think this phone must be just kept in his sock drawer at home. We were given his number as the point of escalation and not once did we get a return call. I must admit, I feel sorry for the guy as he must just deal with problem after the problem after the problem. When we were making the decision Of which Windows to choose, we did look On trust pilot and you will note there are short five star reviews but quite a lot of essays which are vitriolic. I spoke to one of their service engineers who lives in our village and he is told to get customers to leave a review when they change a handle or something minor which they sort out actually with no problem. They have been getting customers to do this to to mask up the shocking service they provide. They have a new sales direct apparently who has been briefed by Denmark to get the service bill down. He must be doing a marvellous job of doing this as they just push back at every opportunity. Overall, the product is now Shoddy And cheaply made with cheap Timber. Velfac Is the sister Company of Rationel And is very similar as it all comes out of the same factory. You might think that because you’re paying a mid top end price for this product That you are going to get something decent… Oh how wrong are you?
My advice is to go and find products made in Denmark or made in Germany not products which are made in Latvia and Poland. We Used rational for the first phase Of our project and had this experience. They really should be ashamed of themselves to work like this as it is just dishonest business practice. I very much look forward to the response from Rationel and being asked to call Chris Newton… Maybe one day he will get his phone out of his sock drawer. Avoid at all costs

Fantastic service, installation and employees
Fantastic service and installation. Had the pleasure visit of two employees, Marco and Anders, everything went smooth and exactly as our expectations were. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Extremely poor service from Dovista & Rationel Ireland
Extremely poor service would not recommend Dovista t/a Rationel in Ireland. Had triple glazed Aluwood windows fitted in July 2022. The seals hadn't been cleaned before installation and vary in colour throughout, window handles were loose and seals vary in length on each window panel. There was no follow up call from Rationel after windows were fitted by a sub contractor who were very efficient and tidy. After several calls to Rationel in Sandyford a service engineer came out 3 months later to tighten handles but couldn't do anything about the seals as they are factory fitted. Depite him agreeing with us that they should not be a variance in colour or lenght Dovista/Rationel management refuse to engage with us which is very disappointing. Don't waste you money with Rationel in Ireland
Great job!
We recently had Rationel replace windows and doors in our house. The guys, 6 of them, arrived promptly at 8am and worked hard over 2days to fit windows and doors. The weather was not the best with rain, wind thunder and lightening while they kept working and were very pleasant to deal with. The house was left clean at the end of each day. The windows look great, we are very pleased with them!
Awful
Awful, do not buy Rationel doors or windows. Door warped, really bad quality. Handle has broken, seals fell off. Service non-existent, no help from Rational Ireland. Avoid avoid avoid. So dissapointed in your product and after sales service.

Spent £70k on windows and delayed and terrible service
Spent nearly £70k on windows, waited a long time for them to confirm delivery dates and then 9 of the windows had to be remade due to failng their own quality control. This resulted in further delays to my project with no apology or acceptance of the costs I incurred due to the delays. They take your money and then treat you like dirt
UPDATE - 26/8 Rationel have replied to this review and I have sent an email to Lou Wallace. I will update when/if I hear back

Terrible delivery service
Terrible delivery service. The guy just dropped 500kg windows on the parking lot without giving any notification. The windows are not even well wrapped. The customer service is not helping either. Very unsatisfied

I have just replaced all windows and…
I have just replaced all windows and doors after 19 years.
I could have replaced them three times over for maintenance costs.
My bay window rotted and water poured through my bathroom and bedroom windows.
They were lovely when I got them installed but what a disaster.
EXTERNAL DOOR MADE OF INTERIOR MDF
I changed all my windows and external doors to Rationel. Whilst they sell them as “designed for the future….. built to last decades and to be enjoyed for generations” my front door didn’t last 7 years never mind make it’s first decade. When I contacted the company I was told I was out of warranty (6yrs), that it was normal wear and tear and wouldn’t have been covered anyway and did I want to buy a new one!! I called in an independent specialist who verified that my front door was made from cheap INTERIOR MDF with a painted coating and was never fit for purpose. How did he know? - because that’s what I’m left looking at every day! It has cracked, warped, the paint is peeling off, a total eyesore. Is this the Scandinavian style and elegance I was sold? Unfortunately I am not in a position to replace the door and now ask visitors to call to my back door as I am so embarrassed with the front. When I complained to their service department I was ignored- highly professional.

This is truly a dreadful company to deal with. I have tried for 9 months to get an engineer visit from them to look at some faulty doors and windows. The staff taking calls will literally block you speaking to the technical staff and insist you fill in interest forms. After much complaining I was forced to spend £275.00 upfront to secure the services of a site visit from an engineer. If it wasn't for the fact that my client has so many of their products in his new build I'd recommend removing all the doors and frames completely. My best advice. Use this company at your own risk. They do not provide value for money and will not provide adequate after sales service for a product sold as a premium product. If you think it might be a one off issue, I have their products in my own home and also had no end of issues dealing with them for these also.
Absolute NO customer service - NEVER BUY vindues from Rationel!!!
Warning - never buy any windows from Rationel! DURING assembly of my new window, I noticed a 6-7 cm irregular scratch in the inner glas of the window. Contacted IMMEDIATELY Rationel, but their guarantee only covers complaints made BEFORE assembly and asked me to document that the scratch was in the glass BEFORE assembly; which of course is impossible, as the scratch was noticed DURING the assembly done my professionel craftsmen and only visible up against blue sky and sunshine - and should I leave a huge hole in my brick wall during in the middle of the winter!!!??? Strange having a motto of "put an honor in good quality" BUT surely NOT living it out!!!
Never buy their products the promised 5…
Never buy their products the promised 5 year garanti and then we had hard winter and one window cracked and suddenly its only 1 year garanti. What a bunch of rubbish here we buy for many money and they do follow up with good servie
Short-lived glory
When our windows arrived on site and were installed they were perfect. Utterly beautiful. Then the rot set in. I have been tending to the painting of these windows every single summer since, fighting (and failing) to keep the wet rot at bay. Over the course of the winter the Rationel-supplied paint fails and water gets into the joints (the construction means that there are many fiddly joints). When I do an inspection in the spring when the weather makes it possible to do some maintenance there is more water damage. This summer (2020) I have spent countless hours stripping, sanding, drying, painting. Some places have massive areas the size of a fist that had to be dug out and replaced with filler (looks awful). It is a losing battle, like brushing water uphill.. I had a carpenter come out to do repairs. He told me the windows are softwood and not fit for exterior windows in Northern Ireland (weather here isn't great, but not that bad). Rationel make beautiful windows, but they are so very weak.
Good product for a short while BUT if…
Good product for a short while but if and when it goes wrong don’t hold your breath for customer service because there is none. We have doors and windows that we cannot open due to handle breakage and other annoying issues, we were promised a return phone call for assistance - nothing.....and I’ve been calling for help since the beginning of this year.
Notice they respond to the good reviews but ignore the critics!!
Rusty Rationel ironmongery within 4 years !
Lacquer peeling and corrosion showing is not a great advert for Rationel when a well known house magazine approach my recent build front door. The handles are under 4 years old and I am particular in my maintenance of them as I like many live within sight of the sea.Rationel UK won't replace any of the 4 door handles under guarantee or goodwill and are asking for £170 per replacement handle. My neighbour built at the same time and chose Nordan, these are unmarked.
My Architect suggested either Rationel or Nordan as quality products,I feel very let down
