Lily's last day

On May 23rd 2025 we took our 19 year old cat Lily to Chorley Vets, she had lost the use of her back legs, we knew it was time to say goodbye to her. When we got to the vets they ushered us into a room that I NEVER expected, it was so peaceful, there was a sofa in there with a box of tissues on it, which were used, On the side there was a candle burning and "The Rainbow Bridge" verse. The vet came in, she was very pleasant, I explained that Lily was deaf, she said she would talk to her anyway, just as we did. We had a bit of time with Lily and then the vet injected her, Lily went very quick, the vet said she was ready to go. Chorley Vets made Lily's passing a very peaceful one for her of which we were thankful for. Not only that, a few days later a card came through the door, it was a thinking of you at this sad time card from all the staff at Chorley Vets. That's was so touching and thoughtful. A big thank you to all the staff and especially the lovely vet (I can't remember her name) who helped make Lily's final moments peaceful.
5 stars for sure.
Julie, Jim and Tasha. And Lily's sisters and brother. X

DO NOT RECCOMENT IF YOU WANT YOUR PETTO LEAVE THERE ALIVE

Brought my little fur baby is when she was just a few months old with kennel cough, to then be prescribed something that could kill her. and NOT to be told / informed of any possible side affects. Took her to a different veterinary practice to then be told because she was so young she should not have been prescribed this sort of medication.
Its a good job i overthink as i might not have my baby girl with me now. JOKE!!!1

Highly recommend this practice

I was visiting the area when my dog became really poorly. When I rang, Sharon, the receptionist was very patient, kind, understand and helpful. The vet was also very caring and informative. My dog and I were handled in a friendly and professional manner. I am so grateful to everyone. Thank you. Hazel from Luton

My little dog was poorly this morning and my vets would not see him, so I phoned Chorley Vets as I had heard good things about them and I know they do fantastic work on helping wildlife. They were ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! They gave an appointment which was within a couple of hours, and were so very helpful and friendly. The vet gave my pooch a thorough examination and treated him. I am very grateful 😊

We took my son's French Bulldog for a visit to have his nails clipped and to check out his ear.
As soon as we walk in the reception staff came to greet us.
Megan who I believe is new to the practice was brilliant and the other lady on the desk was lovely too.
The vet is lovely and treats our Dog like it he is her own.
We always feel reassured when we visit.
We are so glad we found this vets. I would highly recommend them.

Can’t examine a dog but recommend an op without knowing if it’s needed

I had 2 dogs registered at this practice and thought I had found a great vet . I joined their pet plan and every month collected my dog’s flea treatment. One month I couldn’t get the flea stuff because they couldn’t fit us in for the dog s health check and I was going away .my dog who has very long hair was itchy so I had no choice but to book his appointment and leave the dog scratching- on the health check the vet decided he had a skin infection because he had red patches on his white fur . I refused to accept this as I knew he simply needed his flea treatment my dog did not need steroids that they were trying to push on us - I mentioned my dog was limping - in fact everytime I took my dog to the vet in the following weeks I expressed concern over his struggle to walk . Eventually my dog was literally hopping round on 3 legs I went back and demanded they start to manage his pain properly and not just tell me to give him HUMAN PARACETAMOL which I point blank refused to do because not all paracetamol has the dose if I had followed their instructions I would have killed my dog. I spent over £100 on pain relief but noticed it did nothing. They diagnosed a suspected ACL tear and told me he needed an X-ray. I went home to look online what on earth is an ACL only to discover an ACL repair is a major operation major rehabilitation very costly and I read I should not be walking my dog - this shocked me because I walk my dog 5 miles daily- I was literally causing him pain yet no one told me to stop walking him immediately. I believed my dog was doomed . After I reduced his exercise my dog miraculously recovered no ACL no pain - I was simply over exercising him . Now we come to my second dog whom last year was diagnosed with mast blast cell cancer . She had been with the practice since day one and hated them - So when another lump appeared this year I was concerned and took her for an examination the vet wouldn’t touch her because she was anxious both the dog and the vet - she gave me a muzzle ( my dog was not showing aggression) the muzzle didn’t fit and the dog wouldn’t be still for the vet to examine. The vet told me it’s better to remove the lump and printed up a bill for the operation I was to telephone and arrange the date after I said I wished to think about it - on getting home I realised I had agreed for a lump removal on a lump the vet hadn’t even seen or examined! I was charged £42 for an examination that the vet failed to provide and they wanted £750 to remove this lump that they hadn’t even seen ! I contacted them and asked if they shouldn’t have maybe asked the nurses to hold the dog so they could examine her , rearrange the appointment to do this , offer medication to reduce her stress before they examined her - my complaint was met with you can have a fna ( fine needle aspiration) instead at £300 again no offer to examine the dog ! I refused. This vets seem to be asking me to pay them large amounts of money when they hadn’t even examined my dog - . I cancelled the pet plan and apparently you can’t do this and this created more problems that could have been avoided if they contacted me as they said they would on email when I cancelled the plan - they denied I had cancelled and got shirty because I cancelled the direct debit mandate. So it was ok to cancel one dog’s health plan but not the other I didn’t get an explanation why -On short don’t use this vets unless you are happy to pay for un needed costly operations and invented issues- my dog didn’t have an ACL and my other dog didn’t need a lump removal. my big dog was left hopping around in agony after I continued to walk him with them advising on multiple occasions to only give him human paracetamol and his skin condition cleared up when he finally got his flea treatment . It’s not about the money my dogs are insured it’s about them leading me to believe my dogs were seriously ill and needed major operations when clearly they didn’t . It’s clear that money that matters to this vet - before the well-being of the animal- a simple don’t walk your dog could have saved my dog a lot of suffering instead I continued to walk him -if my dog did have an ACL I would have been causing a lot more damage -simple instructions that cost nothing but we’re not offered- my dog still enjoys walking but we only walk a couple of miles now we know our limits he’s almost 10 and no thanks to them is doing great .

I am sorry you felt you have felt it necessary to rate us 1 star. As you state in your review you refused to accept, point blank refused and checked online, A veterinary surgeon can only offer their professional advice. Often cases require work ups and/or further investigation so any suspected issues can be confirmed or ruled out. This is advised for the well being of the pet and definitely not for money. Pet health plans are subject to a 12 month contact, should it be cancelled and there is a shortfall, the outstanding balance is due. As always I can be contacted should any issues wish to be discussed.

Quote 1 price then hike it up without any warning. More interested in profit than service. Won't even give information without being paid consultation fee. Quoted £160 for pet health certificate (same price as year before) for my 2 dogs then charged £237 stating charge was for consultation fee. £77 just for adding a bit more ink to paper. Could have got certificate for half the price elsewhere if I'd have known was gonna get ripped off. Now being threatened with collection agency and letters at £10 each. Would definitely not recommend this practice

Hi Mario,
I am sorry you are disappointed with our service. Additional pets on a AHC is £35. With all AHCs, a full general health check is required as per our governing body which constitutes the consultation charge. We have attempted contact with you on numerous occasions without success hence our admin team involvement. I am happy to discuss this with you if you would like to get in touch. Clinical Director.

Avoid or it will cost you or your pet dearly

Terrible management that are just pure greedy and Vets that damage your pet and then blame the pet instead of being honest and admitting the truth. Appalling behaviour so go elsewhere rather than have your pet suffer.

Ask for the price for any additional service offered!!

We emailed and requested a price to have my puppy castrated, the response was £175 which included pre op, operation, medication and 2 post ops, with the only additional charge being a buster collar or suit.

For the pre op we were told we had to pay £42 as he hadn’t been seen by a vet within the last 12 months. This was an additional cost not told to us in the original email.

When we collected him we were charged £279, this included £20 for the suit (which we were aware of), £60 bloods, £15 fluids and £8 for food. Apart from the suit, the other prices were never explained to us, we agreed to have bloods and fluids done yes but we weren’t told this was an additional price. Should we have known, we wouldn’t have chosen these. We have our own food, why would we want this unless absolutely required?

Taking the total price for the castration to £321, £146 more than originally quoted.

I emailed again to query why the additional charges were not explained, in response it was highlighted that prices are not intentionally hidden and instead if we had’ve asked, we would’ve been told the price for the service. It shouldn’t be the customer who constantly has to ask for a price update? Whilst emailing querying the price, it was also explained that the nurse who asked us if we would like the bloods had said that we were made aware of the prices, this is categorically not true. Myself and my partner were in the room and the only conversation about price was regarding the suit, which we knew about. Appalling customer service!

All in all, this has been a very disappointing experience given we had emailed to request a quote in advance of going ahead with the procedure. We were offered £20 credit on the account, however we are likely going to look at a different surgery once he has been discharged.

We have been informed that the consent forms have been updated to make customers aware of additional prices associated to services so this doesn’t happen again. It’s just a shame it wasn’t in place for us!

Although the service received was good, please ask for the price should a service be offered.

Really poor service

Really poor service. My chihuahua has been let down here constantly & I have spoke with with management a number of times to try and resolve different issues re conflicting advice, reception service, charging for items not provided.
Always provide conflicting information every time I’ve been told something different, told to pay for medication they had ordered which was never ordered the sting armed into paying for a prescription instead for medication no longer available in the UK.
Tried to resolve in the vets and was told the manager would call me, received no call, but an email to say how disappointed they were that I had given them a negative review on Google. Would definitely not recommend!

INCREDIBLE!

I cannot find the words to accurately portray just how utterly wonderful Chorley Vets are.
From the moment I made the call the receptionist Lucynda was so friendly....not just polite because she HAD to be as part of her job....I mean she really cared and was so kind and incredibly patient with me given the fact I was crying so hard I could barely get the words out as to the reason for my call!
Then when I went in this morning with my beautiful boy the whole place had such a warm, family, welcoming feel. They all wanted to see my baby, all chatting to me, asking me if I was ok, did I need anything, how am I feeling today, reassuring me etc.
The vet herself was spectacular. So calm, reassuring and patient with both Sauron and myself (when I started crying AGAIN! 🤦‍♀️)
All in all I will NEVER use another veterinary practice ever again and I highly recommend Chorley Vets to all of my friends who have pets. I didn't realise family businesses like this still exist, everything just seems so corporate these days but wow, I am so glad they do. I wish I could get a job there myself!

Absolutely disgusting service!

Absolutely disgusting service. We rang on Wednesday to make an appointment as we suspect our cat has cat eye cancer. We sent photographs as they had asked us to do, they cpuld only fit us on Saturday. Went for our appointment at 11am and as we got there we were told that they have cancelled it and that they would try and fit us in later at some point. Also they told us that our cats eye was not important (there words!!!!!) She was stressed and wouldnt not stop crying. They also said someone had tried to call us (Absolutely no call) they were not bothered at all. Another customer had come in after we had been for about 20 minutes the same was said to her that they had JUST tried to call them when no one had even picked a phone up! Even if someone had attemped to call us 2 minutes before your appointment is unacceptable. Their customer service was terrible. Yet one of the vets/receptionist could take there dog in for an analysis glad clean......but that they could find the time to do that! This is not the first time they have messed us about or messed up their pet plan with us. Do not use!

Baby bearded dragon with respiratory infection

Took my baby bearded dragon in with respiratory illness, the staff and vet we seen was very nice/friendly and had good advice for me. The consultation price was really acceptable and the medicine was also a good price and not to expensive thankfully :)... I would certainly recommend this well run clean vets & will be using them again if any more health issues arise in any of my pets. Thank you Chorley vets

GREED, GREED & MORE GREED.

Hi thanks for your reply but I still think your prices are exorbitant if I can get the medication for £11.90 so can you and also if I was spending £50 a month on his meds you wouldn’t be charging me £28 every 6 months it’s just because I don’t want to pay your prices.
Thanks for the great service the one time I brought him in. ANIMALTRUST don’t charge a consolation fee so I have registered him there so you can wipe his records off your system.
Regards a very disappointed customer.

A lovely family run Vets and Pet Shop…

A lovely family run Vets and Pet Shop in Chorley. Have been using Chorley Vets since they first opened a few years ago, they offer brilliant service, care and advice for my kitties and I know they are always in good hands. The staff are all really helpful and friendly too. I buy all my pet supplies from Brett's Pets pet shop (the vets is within this shop) and I look forward to going in every time!. Its a great one stop shop for everything pet related.

Would highly recommend to any pet owners out there. Local, Professional and a great atmosphere. Thanks to everyone there :)
