Charmant Not Bothered by Poor Quality Frames
NOTE:
This review is for Charmant UK. However, when I typed in their address of https www charmant com/en/home, Trustpilot created a page for Charmant USA. I couldn't find a way of creating a page for Charmant UK. Trustpilot appears to assume that, just because the address contains ".com" then it's an American company. It doesn't appear to see the "/en/" which refers to the UK company.
REVIEW:
I have been wearing spectacles for several decades, yet I haven't got through many frames. As a rule, I have splashed out on new frames when the old ones look tired, outdated or it just seems like time for a change. I can only remember being forced to buy a new pair once, many years ago, when some plastic frames broke after several years of use.
That's until I bought my most recent frames, by Charmant.
I bought these titanium frames near the end of December 2021 and they lasted until the middle of March this year, when they spontaneously broke apart at a joint. This was unfortunately just outside the two year warranty period. At £179 they weren't cheap.
I explained this situation to Charmant, in the hope that they would agree that my experience was unacceptable and that they would offer me some financial compensation as a gesture of goodwill towards a replacement pair that I had bought, which would take my existing lenses. With lenses costing over £400, I was very reluctant to buy different frames.
Charmant customer services' view was that my sales contract was with my opticians, and anyway the frames were no longer under warranty. Whilst technically correct, the fact is that my opticians were only a "middleman" and not responsible for the quality of the frames - that responsibility lay with the manufacturer. My hope that Charmant would recognise that their product was not up to scatch, and offer me some form of recompense, was dashed.
The moral of the story is, Charmant titanium frames are likely to last little beyond their warranty period and when they break, any worthwhile support from the manufacturer will not be forthcoming. Customer satisfaction is of no concern to Charmant. All that matters is the letter of the law.
