My car died and had to be scrapped today! Nutshell have been paid for cover to date! therefore in good faith I wanted to pause the policy while I find another car!
I spoke with AI and then a person and then told I have to pay a rip off cancellation fee!
Sorry , I've paid for cover to date. I tried to hold cover until I find and update another car and they said no! I have to cancel the policy! This is a rip off!

Don't bother using this company for your car insurance. When you actually need help in the form of a claim they will use three separate companies, none of which will speak to each other. You'll repeat yourself with witness statements and evidence to several different people only for a claims decision to be made without reviewing any of the information you have provided, including video footage taken less than 30 seconds after you were rammed into.
I'm now going to be financially penalised for the next 5 years because they have made a commercial decision on my insurance, without reviewing anything. They don't care that the other driver has lied, and has prove-able lies in their statement. They also don't care that I have repeatedly disagreed with this commercial decision and provided evidence as to why I don't agree with it.
I'm now going to spend even more time on a complaints process through their sheer incompetence.
You couldn't pay me to ever insure with this company again.

Online chat experience is appalling. So slow it’s as if they are dealing with multiple customers at the same time.

Terrible. Tried to tell me it cost to change details. It’s literally a 20 second job on a computer. No help whatsoever. No customer satisfaction just corporate greed.

Got home tonight and found a letter from the police they haven’t registered my insurance on the MID

Horrendous. My insurance was up for renewal so I attempted to make a change to my payments from annually to monthly (more money for them. However the only way I could do this was on line and it would not allow me to make these changes. I tried to chat and have been left staring at a screen with no response. The company have taken over £500 out of my account leaving me in financial difficulties. I am currently trying to cancel but as the chat service not working I cannot, I will never use them again.

Easy to follow the system and happy with the outcome.

Very competitively priced. Easy to use website and user interface. I haven't had to claim yet so can't vouch for that. But so far so good.

Set up the insurance to start in 29 days
Red flag
Whilst quoting they advertise that courtesy car is included but when you are finalising the insurance they charge you nearly £3 per month more for a "guaranteed courtesy car"
Compare the market pre populated the wrong start date by 1 month, I changed it on their own site and it made £0.00pm difference to the payment.
the page froze on the deposit payment page so i had to do it all again, it auto defaulted to the 11th again but i missed it.
I go to the online chat (no phone number) to change it back to the 10th so minus 1 day.
They want to charge me nearly £2 per month for 1 day?
i ask to cancel andd they want to charge me £25 cancelation fee for a policy thats not even started yet and has only technically been active for 30 mins

Terrible company to deal with. Started my policy at the end of March, they took the deposit then claimed they couldn't take the first monthly payment (despite my account details being the same as the card I'd used for the deposit.) They then claimed that I owed them an additional £20 late fee for a problem on their side. Told them to cancel my policy, which they told me would be subject to a £60 early cancellation fee. Funds available in my account since I started the policy.

I insured my vehicle S88HJB with Nutshell on 18th February 2026 and have evidence of the premium payment from my account. However, I have recently received a letter from DVLA saying that my vehicle is not insured and that they intend to fine me. It would appear that Nutshell have failed to register my policy? I have tried to contact them with no luck as they are an online only company and when I try to explain my problem, the online chat keeps saying it does not understand my question. What a terrible service. I don’t know what to do next.

Incredibly unhelpful customer service. No renewal letter received and online customer service ended chat with no explanation. Would not recommend.

Quick and simple questions far pricing policy for car insurance.

Absolutely appalling what they've just done to me!!
My car insurance policy started on the 1st of December 2025.
Today's date is the 11th of May 2026.
I've just received an email saying "Please accept this letter as formal notice that we are cancelling your insurance policy.
We must give you seven days’ notice in writing before we cancel your policy"
100% out of the blue. No warning nothing!!!
Apparently on the 23rd of April. 2026 a single letter was sent to my address!!
So nearly 6 months after my policy started they finally sent me a letter asking for proof of NCD. Then they wanted proof of my address and then they wanted proof of my employer!!
I NEVER GOT ANY LETTER FROM THIS COMPANY AT ANY TIME OR POINT!!!
And it's bad enough they didn't send a follow-up letter. It's even worse they didn't even send me a single email about this!!
I paid in FULL FOR THIS POLICY!!
And they couldn't even be bothered to email me!
One single letter was sent and then 2 weeks later they canceled my policy with zero warning and just one email telling me it's going to end in 7 days!!
Absolutely disgusting practice by this company. I'm 99% sure that actually breaking a significant amount of laws in the way they practice their insurance policy!!
I'm now rushing around like a madman. Trying to find all the bits of information. They want panicking and freaking out that my insurance is going to expire with no mention whatsoever of the money. I paid them for an entire year!!
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT GO WITH THIS INSURER AND GO ELSEWHERE!!
I'm fairly sure this will happen to a lot of their customers because you can't rely on a single letter every time. If they are going to send a single letter and no other form of communication then they need to send it sign for delivery to ensure the customer has got the damn letter before. You then start taking the customer's money and canceling the policy!! Again, absolutely disgusting!!!
