A business model rife with deceit and dishonesty

Please be very careful with this company!!!!

I hired a car from them yesterday from Mallorca Airport. When confirming my booking with them at the service desk in the terminal, my service attendant asked for a deposit for the fuel, which he explained would be returned to me on return of the car with a full tank. I willingly accepted this on my card without hesitation. However, when leaving the terminal to collect the car, I noticed, on the breakdown of charges, there was 'Corbetura super' for 120Eur. This is insurance, and clearly not a deposit I would get back at the end of the rental. Cleverly none of it was in English, despite me clearly being an English speaker, having booked my hire on their English website, presenting a British drivers license and a British passport, so it was only spotted after a quick Google translate.

Anyway, Im the type not to take any s***, so I returned to the service attendant, pushed in line, and made very clear my dissatisfaction in front of several customers. He amended the charges without contest, an acceptance of guilt in my mind as he knew exactly what he had done. I have no doubt in my mind he would have successfully added this on to other customers bills that day in the disguise of a refundable deposit, with most people only realising this at the end of the hire when their 'deposit' is not fully returned.

Interrent (Goldcar) have had alot of negative publicity this year due to their sharky practices. Despite their PR claiming they are changing their ways, my experience with them this week has confirmed scamming customers with deceit and dishonesty is still an integral part of their business. For that, they deserve nothing more than 1 star, however pleasant the car is to drive.

We rented a car from Lisbon airport…

We rented a car from Lisbon airport over a nine day period this month.
On arrival the staff member we were dealing with was insistent the insurance we had was not sufficient and we needed to buy additional insurance. The staff member was very aggressive, repeatedly asking us "why we hadn't taken this out before arriving". Despite us believing we had sufficient insurance, we felt we had no choice and ended up spending an additional 250 euros or risk paying several thousand euros in damage costs should anything happen to the vehicle. This was emphasised all the more by the staff member writing down the accumulation of costs we would entail on a separate piece of paper, which subsequently vanished after agreeing to the insurance.
The staff member also told us we should by a motorway pass which would allow us to travel on toll roads, we were given the impression the daily 2.50 euros charge would pay for the road. However, at the end of the holiday we were given a bill for all the toll roads used. I understand the need to pay for motorway use but if we were clearly told the 2.50 was simply for the luxury of not stopping at the toll booths we would not have purchased it.
The worst part of the whole experience by far, was finding out I had been emailed a copy of the cars damage report with my signature on the bottom. When receiving the keys, we requested a walk round of the car to assess for damages but the staff insisted this was not necessary due our new fully comp insurance. That evening however, I received by email the damage report which I had "signed for". The only time I signed anything was paying for the additional insurance and would never have agreed to signing for the car's damage report without inspecting the car first. Especially a car which was covered in dents and scratches from previous hires.
Please, please, please, avoid renting anything from this scam of a company.

Told not to shout because I kept asking the same question!?

Waited first in-line to collect my vehicle in Plama Majorca, while others were served at the desk, this took over 30mins.
Once at the desk I understood why! Staff spoke so fast they were difficult to understand. Was then told I needed to pay nearly €300! I told them I had damage waver insurance.
Member of staff wouldn’t except this and carried on saying I had no insurance. After 15minutes he finally said I was insured to drive the vehicle on the road. But needed to pay a deposit of €166 which I think was for the fuel!? Also cover the excess if €1400.
Car was clear and good quality.
On return no one checked the car with me just told me to drop the keys. Very sceptical of this so took photos of the car.
I received an email a few hours later to say the car was fine and I had nothing to pay, but the €116 isn’t still debited on my card. So waiting on refund.
Overall an horrible, stressful, oppressive experience after several hours of travelling.
Use eurocar completely professional when collecting a vehicle in Austria, with no hard sell for insurance.

I rented one car 3 days in Sttutgart…

I rented one car 3 days in Sttutgart airport. I returned the car early morning (5AM), a guy from the company revised the car and everything was ok. He didn't sign as ok in the check in report, he just didn't write anything ( my fault as I learnt later!)
After 5 days of returning the car they charged my VIsa with 700€, I'm still working with the court, the Ecrcs.eu organization and whatever I can find to get the money back.
I never heard before about these practices but there are a lot of blogs like this one about abussive & unfair charges done by Interrent

Contract NO17380512

Contract NO: 17380512
I travel to Spain several times a year. For the first time I rent a car from Inter Rent.
The experience was very bad. First I was charged 40 Euros extra for getting the car after 23h. Second the car was very dirty inside and outside (the staff's respond was: it is the car, take it or leave it!! I was forced to have the car as there was no other option.
I delivered the car on time and I asked the receptionist kindly to check the car and confirm that everything was alright. He was not cooperative and said he did not do that and referred me to customer service. I asked him to confirm that he had received the car and he angrily put a stamp (Received) on my contact when I asked to put a date and time on it he was very upset and raised his voice. I asked his name he refused to give it to me. I could get the name in the end which was Eloy. Then he started to mock me by saying:" Do you want my social security number".
His behaviour was very bad.
Is this normal in your company.

Extremely bad experience

At the drop off of the car in Ciampino (Rome) tua lady named Tiziana trying to be nice she noticed a scratch o the back bumper which it was already there on the day I picked up the car. I showed her the videos ( because I always make one for myself in order to know if the car is damaged ) but she didn’t want to hear anything from me. She charged my and saying I was making a bi “show” about it. They even sent me the invoice with the picture she took and now I have my video ( which is dated and timed on iPhone) and this ridiculous picture. She stated that the car was hit and shape of the bumper changed. But the car was exactly the same.
Now I want to speak with inter rent and make a massive complaint against this lovely Tiziana. I have already get in touch with the broker rental car since I was on full cover. Funny thing there is no email for costumer service. Don’t go with them at all

Ripping you off on insurance!!

If you booked through another agency please take the time to check whether you can book the insurance through them!! We made the booking through an online platform, when we arrived to Madeira we asked inter rent how much insurance would cost. We were quite surprised to find out this was costing us another €375 on a 14 day rental period, the rental fee itself was only €109!!! However, the lady at the counter was very persistent and really made it sound that for sure the car would come back with a scratch which according to her without insurance cost you €800, this is Madeira she said, even my car has a lot of damage without it being my fault, we are No1 claimer at the insurance company, etc etc. I tried convincing her that we would take the risk, but she then would have to give us another car, which wasn't strong enough to drive up the steep hills, anyway in the end we booked the highly overpriced insurance, only later finding an email from the online platform offering the same insurance for €8,25 a day. It is clear that they're offering these cars way too cheap, trying to earn their money back later through insurance, extra driver etc. etc. Total rip off, do not recommend!!!!

After renting a vehicle from Interrent…you just can’t trust them

After renting a vehicle from Interrent at Almería Airport and being pressurised into buying their insurance I resisted as I have my own cover which I purchase yearly. After 6 days into the rental the tailgate of the vehicle failed and hit me on the head so I had to take it back to the airport a 2 hour round journey plus another 2 hours waiting and arguing with the girl behind the desk re the fact that I might be charged for a fault with the vehicle although it was obviously a fault and the vehicle was only a few months old and under manufactures warranty, she eventually agreed to replace the vehicle but not before charging me €350 for a scratch on the passenger door that was there when I picked it up along with a dent which was marked which I thought covered the whole door!! But no the door apparently is split into 6 sections and only one cross was marked.
I didn’t even get a apology for the 4 hours lost of my holiday due to a fault with their vehicle just a smug suggestion that if I had taken their insurance I would have been covered.

Do not touch these scammers with a…

Do not touch these scammers with a barge pole

A- The cars they show for hire appear to not exist, at Alicante airport we had hired a VW Golf "or similar", ended up with a Vauxhall Corsa...........unless we would upgrade! They didn't even have Golfs at the airport.
B- They attempt to make purchase un-needed insurances
C- On return they will be to busy to go over the car even if you are prepared to wait
D- They will appear to call customers liars as they will find the tiniest mark on the vehicle that may not have been on check out list (the vehicle we had looked as if it had come out of a war zone with over 40 bits of damaged marked.
E- Expect a poorly lit car park when collecting car so pretty much impossible to check for damage.
F- Check your email pretty much as soon as you get into departures so its to late to challenge!!...............but they couldn't do it about an hour ago!
G- Contact an incredibly uninterested customer services and get told pretty much.......tough luck.
H-Await a blurred picture of the "damage"

We have been charged £163.68 for the "damage" in the blurred photo, looks as if someone used a pencil, taken picture, sent bill, wiped it off as its not in the next "evidence" picture.

45 charges at maybe £165.00 each.......£7380.00, that little cars made these scammers some good cash.

We have challenged and now they just don't respond to any correspondence, but they have the money.

BEWARE of Interrent

Starting with the positives, the check-in guy was quick, polite and professional, and the car was good, a Chinese MG runabout. The negatives: at Edinburgh airport stated to be on-airport, but a shuttle bus ride away. Check-in is a hut, so if it is raining, expect you and your luggage to get wet as you wait outside for one of the two check-in people to become free. Our booking did not state limited mileage, but they hit us for an additional £8 for unlimited mileage, and yes they will block your credit card for £1,100. The worst was yet to come on drop-off. The drop-off guy was rude, unhelpful & aggressive. Claimed we had damaged a tyre, when we had not, even though the small nick in the side of the tyre was directly above the scuffed up rim marked up as existing damage on our rental contract. He said he would prove that the tyre had been replaced, but when I confronted him 5 mins later, he said he could not prove it, so would not be charging me for the damage, as if he had done me a big favour! Is this just a one-off, or in effect a systematic attempt to abuse & exploit their rental contract?

Waited an hour to be seen at pickup

Waited an hour to be seen at pickup. There where only about 6 people in front of me and two assistants on the desk but it still took an hour to be seen to start the collection.

I also have European car hire insurance from icarhire.com. But the assistant insisted that this wouldn't cover me with interrent in the case of an accident, and if I wanted to be covered I had to take out their insurance. I've yet to follow up on this as it seems highly suspicious. But of course, you're not going to take risks, and we were eager to just get out of the airport as there was a gang of us,so forked up yet more money. Not a happy start to a holiday, but an expensive one. Will not be using again or recommending.

Avoid Avoid Avoid!!

Avoid Avoid Avoid!!! Both Holiday auto's and Inter Rent like the plague, they have terrible service when you pick up and even the worst service when you call customer services. Note you only have 3 hours to pick up your car and if your flight is delayed and the rep isn't there to pick you up, you then stand the chance of like us losing you reserved car and needing to pay for an upgraded car... in our case and extra £350 - this is a con, just pay more and avoid these guys!

Scammed by Interrent Edinburgh Airport

Scammed by Interrent Edinburgh Airport

A VW Golf for 5 days for GBP 61 - too good to be true, right? Right.

I rent cars a lot and thought I knew how not to get ripped off but these guys took it to a new level. I booked a car for 5pm but because (a) my BA flight was an hour late and (b) it takes an age to get to the Interrent office via an infrequent bus service to a godforsaken car park, I arrived just over 2 hours late. Interrent said my car had been cancelled as a no-show, but that a better car was available at an extra GBP 5 per day. Seemed unfair but as I didn't have a lot of choice at that point, I accepted it.

Then when I produced the Amex card I had used to book the car on Holiday Autos, they said they don't take Amex. No warning in the T&C's about this at all, so again I was in a fix. But then they said that I could actually use a debit card if I paid the highest level of insurance ("Super Relax Cover") to take my liability down to zero.

Then they said I would have to pay an "Environmental Contribution" on top. Again, nothing about this in the T&C's.

Final cost of rental - 198.19 or 325% of the original quoted price. Total scam and I would advise anyone to pay a bit more to get a car at one of the reputable car hire companies in the airport terminal.

SCAM CAR HIRE

Totally agree with all the other comments on here about the fabricated damage charges. This company is a blatant scam. The photo they sent me of the damage is not even on the door where they have said the damage is. I recommend that anyone who has a problem with this company report it to their credit card company who can freeze the payment until a proper investigation is carried out. The Spanish government can also arbitrate for free using the “Juntas Arbitrales de Transporte”. The reviews speak for themselves. What a Scam!!!!!

I can’t believe how bad.

I can’t believe a company can stay in business with service like this. I would rather pay double than use these useless bunch of unemployable people. Firstly they couldn’t find my car them when they did it was faulty with a worn wheel bearing, they said it was just bad luck and I had to do a 50 mile round trip for them to replace it.

The worst car rental company..

The worst car rental company... Only 2 customers before us and we waited for nearly an hour. At one point, the only staff left her desk when she realised that some previous customers had forgotten their key cars. Instead of waiting for them to pick them up. She walked very relaxed as if on her break and followed the customer up to their car. When she came back, I dared to exhale in frustration and then she looked at me crossly and instead of apologising asked me to be patient! On this, she literally left her desk again for another 5 minutes! No apologies, no sign of trying her best or anything. Complete disregard for me and my family. Will never use them again

DO NOT USE INTERRENT/GOLDCAR

DO NOT USE INTERRENT/GOLDCAR they are SCAMMERS.In the last few months they have falsely charged myself 500E my daughters 600E and my friend 400E for non existent damage. Their scam works like this - if you do not take their very expensive insurance, they give you a car which is already covered with extensive superficial damage making it very difficult to accurately check all of the existing damage. When you return the car they decline to examine it in your presence and then later send you a bill for supposed but in fact non existent additional damage and simply deduct the money from your credit card despite your protests.
Their customer service department is useless.
