being one of the oldest broker, you would assume IG to be reliable. but the platform keeps crashing. shows different amount of balance on the account, cannot change password etc, so i want to move to other broker. But there's not much alternative. only reason i'm with them is they provide large stock selection. otherwise i would have moved. I need help. anyone suggest me spreadbetting broker other than IG with many shares to trade. thanks
Dealt with Jakub in customer services who was very understanding and I think fair in his solution. Thanks Jakub. Only 4 star however due to long 30 mins wait for call to be answered and due to the reason for the call, i.e. getting caught out on US stocks commission charges. Beware if you have account set to multi currency as if you buy cheap but lots of shares you will get charged either $15 dollars or 2 cents per share. With low priced stock the latter kicks in and it can be a disproportionate amount for the transaction made. Be sure to read the small print and check your commission quote before pressing execute. Easy to assume you know what it will cost based on past trades. Jakub was able to offer me some goodwill, for which I am grateful. Not sure the underlying policy is helpful though as just leaves you feeling ripped-off and I’m sure they do not need to charge such amounts to make a fair profit. Might be worth looking at this if they want to keep customers on side.
I have recently signed up with IG and the issues have quickly become evident.
The first issue is the lack of customer service, excessively long hold times, and the inability of staff to perform basic functions such as reply to emails or open an account at my request in less than 2 weeks.
Currently I have invested alot (for a beginner) into shares and the positions of those shares are not located in the "positions" tab. How am I meant to close my trades??
Things IG needs to do in order to get my 5 star review are: Focus more on customer satisfaction and work on improving the online trading environment.
Steve.
Good point - the platform is great and you can trade a huge number of stocks which aren't available on other platforms. Dealing fees are fair.
Bad points - Their customer service is ABSOUTELY DISGUSTING. I very rarely write reviews but I feel I need to make a specific point in this case.
Due to problems on IG's side, I've been trying to open an ISA and transfer in shares for over six weeks. I've spent hours on hold to IG getting passed around numerous departments who all tell you that you need a different department and just transfer you on again.
I tried to phone again today, spent 27 mins on hold and was then cut off. Phoned again and spoke to reception to say that I was not to be put on hold as I would go to the back of the queue which isn't fair after already waiting. Told I would get a call back, didn't get one. Phoned in twice more, still no response.
I will shortly be losing money in tax due to IG Markets appauling service.
I will be moving to an alternative broker at my earliest opportunity. I am currently stuck because I can't risk selling my position, waiting for funds to clear and moving to another provider at this time.
I can't express enough how angry and dissapointed I am with this company. Over 6 weeks to complete a simple function is totally unacceptable.
If it's a result of a staffing issue due to Covid-19 this needs to be made clear so people can choose to use another broker. Furthermore, all companies have now had plenty of time to adjust and make arrangements as required, so this wouldn't be an excuse anyway.
An update as of 22/5/20:
Phoned and waited on hold for over 30mins, told I would get a call back within 10 mins once they had investigated. I chased three times but it's now the end of the day (5 hours later) and no call back.
I did however get a call back this evening from somebody finally returning my calls from YESTERDAY. Told the transfer of shares is dealt with by the corporate actions team. He said he would speak to them and explain my case has been ongoing for weeks, but essentially said they wouldn't be interested and I would have to wait an unknown amount of time.
Every time I think IG Markets can't get any worse, somehow they manage it.
Update 27/5:
After much more time on hold and being cut off another four times, my shares have finally been transfered. I don't want to use the word 'resolved' because in the 6 weeks it's taken to get this done, the value of my shares have increased considerably.
The transfer has therefore taken up twice the amount of my ISA allowance as it should have done. This ultimately means I'll end up losing money in tax bceause of IG.
For this reason, I have downgraded my review from 2 stars to 1 star. It's unacceptable for a company who offer investments to lose their clients money because their systems don't work.
On a positive note, my thanks go to Kagiso in customer services and Kenneth F in trading services who both tried their best to help me and were instrumental in getting the transfer done.
I have been with ig for close to 18 years. theyve been great so far until recently. Now their system crashes with increasing regularity costing me a lot of money today not for the 1st, second or 3rd time of late. platform down, phones not picked. The timing of their platform outages is becoming rather suspect and suspicious. The problem with brokerages like IG is when you make money, they lose, when you lose they win, they dont always hedge so I wonder if the platform outages have anything to do with that. whatever the case, It's definitely time to jump ship and move to futures where I am not trading against the house and the broker has no incentive to screw me.
Hi
The system keeps crashing and i can't get hold of anybody its a joke.I still haven't anything back I'm starting too think this is a scam shall i and file a complaint through my solicitor?can any one help.
Having used IG for a number of years they have always been very good.
Easy to navigate and layout of charts and info easy to understand
The Good
Stable platform.
Discounted Pro Real Time Charts.
The Bad
No complimentary Pro Real Time Charts unless sufficient trades are made.
No definition of 'sufficient trades' supplied by IG -- they just cut you off at will.
Subject to the vile EU's restrictive laws on retail trading (applies to all European-based brokers).
Massive overnight carry fees on commodities, none of which IG make an attempt to explain to new clients. Complex pricing structure means serious conflict of interest in my view.
Also, 'marketing partnerships' enable 'educators' to earn large fees for introducing naive and unsophisticated investors to the platform for a thorough rinsing.
Avoid.
This is to express the professional support provided by Adrian on IG's support. He helped me with a problem others could not in weeks.
I called for support on a weekend and he promised to call back with a solution on Monday. I didn't believe him, however he is a man of his word.
Power to Adrian, his priority is customer satisfaction. :)
Their Customer support is not good and precise, maybe it is because Corona-Virus crisis. Their app is useless.
There appear to many negative reviews on here.
However, I have a standard share account.
Its always worked, I have never had problems, the charges appear to be modest.
I have had no issue in withdrawing funds. For me, its a great platform.
Occasionally the system comes up with an error message and doesn't allow one to close the deal.
Excessive trading fees and won't even let me withdraw my money to my bank account
I'm using your platform few month now and is really user friendly with a lots of information and latest news. However, I would like to be able to export "My Watchlist" from one device to another. Also, in my demo account, I tried to copy trades from your signals, didn't work well, quite big losses and 0 profit.
I sent several emails asking IG to send me my statement of account. When they finally did, the statement got my deposit as the only transaction. When asked, they email me to say that I have not traded that why.
I trade every day. I have made 60% of my deposit since January I don't understand why they are saying I have not made any trade. There is something strange with IG.
I am still hoping that they will let me change my password or help me change it.
