Having dozens of domains and aliases

Having dozens of domains and aliases, no other service would is as cost effective as ForwardEMail.net is. Their Customer Service resolved the one issue I had very quickly. I highly recommend this service to any entity giving up their mailserver.

We had been having issues with our email aliases and forwarding

We had been having issues with our email aliases and forwarding. We started using Forward Email, and for some reason we kept running into errors. We are so grateful for their team helping us work through the problem. It ended up being a small error in some code, and once it was identified and fixed, we were back in business!

A special thanks to Nick for his patience, responsiveness, and help throughout the process. We are incredibly relieved to have everything working again, and it’s reassuring to know that if something else comes up in the future, we have friends at Forward Email who will help us through it.

Thank you, Nick and the Forward Email team!

Forwardemail is a technically excellent…

Forwardemail is a technically excellent service, adhering to all modern email delivery standards. They started as just a forwarding service but now offer true mailboxes that are even encrypted. All their source code is online to audit (you can even selfhost it!) I find their deliverability to be excellent, and they even offer intricate technical details like logging of the email queue.

Recently had to contact support (did it through matrix) because of a login issue. Was fixed fast within minutes.

AI is not privacy; Founder makes personal attacks.

First of all, be highly suspicious of a bot farm being used to write all the 5 star reviews.

Disgusting to see a privacy focused company who has started using AI to write their software. Wholly untrustworthy. Frequent outages were leaving me unable to access my emails also. 10 incidents or so this year when my emails have not been getting through. The AI generated code disguised as human authored was the final straw.

Update: Nick Baugh, the Founder himself has taken to reply to my GDPR data removal request with the following:

"Your account is deleted already, and you already had deleted all of your domains/aliases.

Best of luck, also note: Tuta is closed source. I also wrote millions of lines of code by hand in vim; you are not welcome back at our service.

- Nick (Founder)"

At no point did I ever say which email provider I moved to prior to this. He made this personal, looked up my domain's MX records, and violated GDPR as I was on my way out of the door. Truly the worst thing anyone could do as a privacy focused email provider. His claim is unsubstantiated also. Nick has not committed to the GitHub in a couple of years, and 'titanism' has authored frequent AI assisted commits since January 8th or so. My only regret in all of this is signing up in the first place.

Edit: "Forward Email confirms titanism is the Founder. They have since confirmed they use AI tools. It is not stated explicitly in the marketing or in their privacy documentation. My request to Forward Email now would be to state this clearly on their website."

Nick has since SMTP deny-listed my email address because I left his service in protest, so I am unable to follow up. Given Nick's volatility, it's only cemented my decision to leave Forward Email even further. I would never have trusted such an individual to have had my emails on their servers, if I had known this was the character of the person behind said service.

Avoid Forward Email.

Edit: Forward Email has flagged this review for containing defamatory content. I have, merely stated matter of fact from my own experience with them. They seem to use this flagging process as a means of trying to change the narrative in their favour. I am not the first and I am not the last person they will have hit with this claim.

Edit: Trustpilot found in my favor.

---

For full transparency the "insult" in question was as follows in my email to customer support. I was not expecting Nick to issue a statement on his personal manifesto against Tuta. I admit I was wrong in my 14 day withdrawal statement, and am glad it was honored anyway. Unless provoked I will raise no further comment on the matter.

The email unedited, only redacted identifying information:

"
Hi,

Yesterday I had already moved away from Forward Email as my email provider, because I saw you were introducing AI garbage into my email provider. That new website of yours is AI slop disguised as code written by a person. I am leaving in protest.

Payment reference REDACTED

This subscription auto renewed by I had disabled auto renewal. I am not using you anymore. I want a full refund from the bill on 9/28/26.

Under the EU 14 day withdrawal I am exercising this right.

Regards,
Ella"

Edit: moments after updating this review, Forward Email LLC sent in another Trustpilot abuse report saying again, it is defamatory. I suspect it is not; I'll wait on Trustpilot

Reply from Forward Email

We're sorry to see you go, but this review leaves out important facts:

- Your account, domains and aliases had already been deleted before your data removal request arrived.
- Your refund request came with insults about our team's work, and **it was for a renewal, outside the 30-day refund window in our terms. We refunded it anyway.**
- We checked your domain's public DNS records to confirm no MX or TXT records still pointed to us, so no mail for your domain would keep arriving at our servers. **That's a standard step when an account closes, and anyone can look up these records.**
- Our new website was designed and built by people on our team. "titanism" is our founder's GitHub account, with thousands of commits, including to open-source packages downloaded millions of times. Like most software teams, we use AI tools where they help, and **all our code is public for anyone to review.**

**This review repeats the same attacks, publicly this time. We wish you the best with your new provider.**

Great service and support!

After a brief test almost two years ago, I finally got approval from my company to move all our email services for client here. Forward Email support have been stellar into helping us "move in comfortably", plus they were really great about accomodating some of our custom necessities.
I can't recommend them more. Great service!

Having used email since before the internet...

I've used email since before most people knew there was an internet, starting in the early 1980s. I have moved around a lot, and eventually registered my own domain name so that at least when I moved our family's email addresses we didn't have to go contact everything and give them a different address. My most recent, and I believe my last, move of our email host has been forwardemail.net. I could not be more happy with them. Their support is great, the cost is a super value, and the features just keep coming. As an aside, I am particularly pleased that in addition to being a super service, it's all built on open source software, which I have a soft spot for. If you're considering where to host your email, look no further. Forwardemail.net is fantastic.

I hesitate to write this review because…

I hesitate to write this review because I don't want the secret to get out! Forward Email is a godsend for developers who need flexibility and scalability for all things email. Combined with its ability to hook up email to custom APIs, Forward Email checks literally all of the boxes, and at an unbeatable price. This allows me, an independent developer, to accommodate any client request and actually be able to make some overhead. Engineer-level support when you need it, intuitive design and integrations so that you mostly don't. They 100% nailed it. If other companies followed their lead, the independent internet would be a more thriving place. Forward Email: I'm begging you! Please never change.

My choose of personal SMTP relay

I was looking for a SMTP Relay to receive email notifications from self-hosted services and home network. Considering several, ForwardEmail won by focus on privacy and GDPR (unlike EU based providers themselves where privacy policies did not convince me enough).

Setup was straightforward and all works weel. Although it may seem strange at first sight, some actions require validation / check by FE admins. On the others side this may be a plus where someone elses checks the config and it may help to prevent custom domains to become banned in spam lists - and of course protects the services itself.

Price for the services is I believe very good with generous limit of emails per day that myself I'll probably never use up. Can definitely recommend

A great example of product design

This company could be a business school case study in how to properly design a product that creates a great user experience. I've designed and marketed tech products for decades. I'm always amazed (appalled really) at how so companies don't bother to understand what it's like to be their customer, and as a result, market products that are difficult to use, and interfaces that are puzzling. These folks make it easy to be their customer. Navigating the product set up is dead simple and intuitive, and the product works. What could be better than that?

Decentralising the Internet - Forwardemail is great

I am working on a product that allows users to run their own mail server in the home network & receive incoming email - without a vpn and without needing to open firewall holes. Forwardemail has all the features my product needed. Their staff is super helpful in resolving issues. The sites functionality is really easy to grasp. The whole internet today is gravitating towards balkanisation by a small group of Big Tech companies. Forwardemail is a bright star in the opposite direction - decentralisation of the internet back to its original roots

Happy customer for years

I ran my own mail server to forward email since I bought a domain until 2023. Since then I've been a happy Forward Email customer without any noticeable issues. Recently I reported a problem I was having understanding email logs on their website and they pushed a nice improvement that fixed my concern within a day.

A powerful and elegantly simple solution for so very many of your e-mail needs! Forward Email enables each of the organizations with which we work to have vanity e-mail addresses that integrate seamlessly with users' preexisting Gmail, Outlook, or other e-mail inboxes. If it involves e-mail: if you can dream it, Forward Email can probably do it!

From first year I found them till now every year they are improving the service and adding new options. From simple forwarding email service it becomes a real email server with everything you need. Secured. Using it for all of my domains completely separated from web hosting.

This is the way that software should be

I've been using ForwardEmail since it was started. They've added useful features over time while keeping the price the same (how, I do not know). Their support is top tier. They don't inundate you with ads and provide useful messages about what other features you may be able to use inside of the payment tier that you're a part of. I have no complaints!

I absolutely love the FE support…

I absolutely love the FE support philosophy and the team of support individuals. There was an issue with messages being Queued rather than being sent - some of them time sensitive. Nick and Shaun and may be score others jumped on the issue that was causing it and resolved it as soon as I noticed and reported it - no time wasted. This is what truly sets them apart. I will gladly volunteer my time to work with a team like this that is passionate beyond belief. Keep up the good work FE.

Love ForwardEmail.net

Love ForwardEmail.net. I manage 42 domains right now, and without ForwardEmail I honestly have no idea how annoying that would be to handle manually.

I’ve been using it for over 2 years and emails just work. That’s really the main thing I care about. Aliases are easy to set up, I can keep everything organized across different domains, and I’m not constantly fighting with email settings.

Support has been great too. I had an issue recently that was completely on my side, and Nick still replied fast, explained what he could see, and helped me get it sorted out.

For the price, reliability, and support, ForwardEmail has been one of the easiest tools for managing email across all my domains.

Not GDPR compliant, poor support, and spammers

I sent a support ticket on 11 June 2025 and just had it acknowledged on 16 December 2025, 6 months later after I didn't renew my contract. I clearly instructed the owner to not contact me with any more marketing emails (the most basic GDPR request one could make), which he ignored. Please note how unprofessionally he brings up the matter of his 6-month delay to reply to their "premium support" ticket:

-------
Subject: Premium Support: Your Help Request #FOFUFJ [on 16/12/25 - 6 days after account expired]

Hi there,
Just checking in to see if you had any issues still? We're cleaning up our inboxes and looks like we unfortunately did not timely respond to your most recent message.
We also released v2.0.0! [Marketing link 1] [Marketing link 2]
Let us know if you have any issues, and we hope you have a happy holiday and new year!
Thanks, Nick
Founder
-----
Hi Nick,
I believe it would be self-evident from your lack of response to my original query [of 11/06/25], and acknowledgement of that, that for sure I continue to have the issue.
What exactly is your point, question or help?
I would appreciate you didn’t contact me for marketing news, please.
Best regards,
Luis Morais
-----

Four months after my account expired, he was still sending emails, and one of these emails triggered an anxiety response, as it said:

------
What will happen if I don't pay?
Email forwarding is currently paused and suspended. **This means that you may be missing important emails. We are currently responding to senders** with a retry status code. Senders will eventually stop retrying, and you may not receive their emails.
------

This email created a lot of anxiety about the possibility that people could still be trying to contact me but were told to retry. It also really concerned me that my aliases could still be active in the hands of a good-for-nothing flea company when there are so many better European alternatives.

Fast forward to recent days, and despite the anxiety caused by their marketing, I politely asked them for a second time to delete my data as a formal GDPR request. In response, the owner told me that I should 'actually read the instructions' and close the account myself:

------
21/04/2026
Subject: GDPR request

To whom it may concern,
Please delete my accounts and expunge any data you hold of me.
Regards,
Luis
-----
Hi there,
Please actually read our website. You can delete this yourself.
[Link requiring login to dead account]
Click Delete
Thanks.
-----

Now, imagine that FOUR months later, this minuscule, good-for-nothing excuse of a company could just nuke all my data with one click – as per the GDPR!

Nevertheless, not only do they feel entitled to ignore my first GDPR request to stop marketing communications when the account expired 4 months before, but they still feel entitled to demand I go through all the work of recovering passwords and reconfirming email addresses so that I can resurrect an expired account just to close it again. And without the guarantee that only GDPR requests can give.

After contacting their data handler, they finally acquiesced that I wasn't requesting support to close an account but serving them with a GDPR Data Erasure request:

------
...As a GDPR request, and not a support request, this process should be done on their [Forward Email's] side to eliminate any doubt that any data could be kept due to a “mistake” from me, as the account holder. Nick [Forward Email's owner] has a history of not helping their customers with technical details and it is safer that he does the job instead of me...
------

Well, folks, if you want European quality, stick to European companies. Steer away from Forward Email

----

In reply to the rather confused reply from Forward Email, below:

1. I am not saying you called me names. Why are saying this? Do you want me to call you names?
2. A GDPR request for data erasure is not the same as an account deletion process - This has been fully explained and you need to learn this or just stop harassing me.
3. Oh, yes, that data erasure indeed happened as soon as I got your European data handler involved and a complaint was sent to the ICO. Congratulations, you have just did a GDPR, you.
4. Oh, so now the clickbait fearmongering email telling me to pay or miss all those emails people "were still sending to me", without an unsubscribe link or a button that said "HOW TO GET RID OF US AS YOU HAD ALREADY TOLD US AND MADE IT CLEAR" is a "transactional" email.
5. Oh, yes, the information that you could have provided in the first place instead of spamming with fearmongering spam. I have changed my DNS settings, not thanks to you, but my domain provider.
6. Lastly, be aware that their tactic is to flag complaints against them as "ilegal" and "defamatory". This review was written while they falsely flagged it as "defamatory". Unethical.

Reply from Forward Email

Hi Luis,

We're sorry to hear about your experience and want to address the points raised for anyone reading this review.

However, we must respectfully correct several inaccuracies:

- We never called you any names or insulted you. We provided a direct link to our account deletion page and asked you to follow the instructions there. We regret if the brevity of that message felt dismissive.

- The email you referenced ("What will happen if I don't pay?") was an automated transactional notification, not a marketing email. It was triggered because your domains' MX DNS records were (and still are as of this morning; this is your responsibility to fix this, we do not have access to your DNS records) pointing to our mail servers. When external senders attempt to deliver mail to your domains, our servers must respond at the SMTP protocol level — this is how email infrastructure works. This notification was alerting you that you may be missing emails as a result. Transactional service notifications are distinct from marketing communications under both GDPR and CAN-SPAM.

- Your GDPR data erasure request was fulfilled. Your account and all associated data have been fully deleted and expunged from our systems. We do not store email content, forwarding logs, or message metadata — our zero-knowledge architecture is fully documented in our publicly available Privacy Policy (https://forwardemail.net/privacy ) and GDPR page (https://forwardemail.net/gdpr ).

- The automated notifications will stop as soon as you update your DNS records at your domain registrar to remove the MX records still pointing to mx1.forwardemail.net and mx2.forwardemail.net. This is within your control and we have advised you of this multiple times.

We wish you the best with your future email provider.
