DO NOT shop at this store

DO NOT shop at this store! I bought an outfit there for my son’s wedding, it cost £350. I loved the outfit, it was exactly what I was searching for. The only snag was the V-neckline was a bit low and the mesh that covered it was see-through. The staff recommended their alterations lady – she said she could replace the mesh so you could not see my cleavage, so I left the dress with her. Perfect, or so I thought.

When I returned to the shop to try my outfit on, what was a slim V-shape was now a U-shape and was not sewn properly with the fabric edge and cotton exposed. It also exposed more of my bust! I took photos and told the shop staff to speak with the alterations lady to make the shape back to the original V-shape and to add more layers so my bust was not visible. The text reply that I received said ‘As I was having extra layers (to the mesh) the stretch would not be such an issue’. Apparently, the mesh they had used had a stretch effect ……. This mesh the store suggested and provided.

I had no contact from them, so phoned the shop to arrange for a date for my dress to be available. I was told to ring back and speak with the owner. Odd, I thought. Again, I phoned the shop and did speak with the owner to ask for my dress to be available for me to see and try on. She said she would get in touch with the alterations lady. I heard nothing, so phoned the shop again to be told that she had texted me, which she had not. I have kept my contact texts etc.

When I went for my outfit, I was told to go from the shop where I bought it to their other shop which was opposite. Here, I was met by the owner and the alterations lady. This shop was empty of customers and I anticipated an issue. ‘There’s a pull on the dress’ I was told. ‘Try it on’. I did and was not happy or impressed. ‘It was like that when I got it back’ I was told by the alterations lady - she had not even done the work herself !! The pull was from the centre of the dress (where the V should have been, across the bust, it immediately caught the eye). There was no offer of any recompense from the owner and the alterations lady just gave me my cost back of £20. I asked the owner to see if she could source another identical outfit and she took my phone number. I never heard from them again.

I did take my outfit to another dressmaker, but unfortunately the fabric had been pulled across too much by the initial person who had put 6 layers of stitching in it to try and get the V-shape. It is now irreparable as the fabric is stretched and unworkable.

I find the customer service deporable at this store, to recommend someone to undertake work which is unsatisfactory to an expensive garment and then totally wipe their hands of it is not acceptable. I wondered why I had been asked to sign some sort of ‘waiver’ when I paid for my outfit.
