The Worst Electricity Provider in Town
Their membership plan is a complete scam. I’ve been paying about $30 to $50 more per month compared to other competitors. They have both a demand charge and a membership fee, which pushes the daily supply charge to around 155 cents per day—while Origin, for example, charges only about 98 cents per day with a similar unit price.
Don’t fall for their misleading pricing. Always compare with other popular providers before signing up.
Love Energy Locals
Love Energy Locals! Been with them for electricity for years and now switching my gas as well
Extremely overpriced electricity
Extremely overpriced electricity. My building is locked to urban energy and there is no other option. That means they charge whatever they want even though I live in a poor area.
My worst bill was $700 in one month.
1-Star Review for Energy Locals
1-Star Review for Energy Locals
Energy Locals has great customer service, but their pricing structure is borderline a scam. I was paying hundreds of dollars more per month compared to other providers due to hidden demand charges, high daily supply charges, and an unnecessary membership fee.
The Problems with Energy Locals:
1. Scammy Demand Charges – $147.09 Extra on Top of Other Fees
They charge a daily fee based on the highest power usage at any moment in the month.
Even if I only hit high usage once, I was forced to pay an extra charge every day for the rest of the month.
In January 2025, I hit 13 kW once, and that locked in a charge of $147.09 for the entire month—on top of my other electricity fees.
This charge changes each month, but it’s always expensive—and no other provider has such an unfair system.
2. Unnecessary Membership Fee – $21.49 Per Month ($257.88 Per Year)
I was forced to pay $21.49 per month just to be a customer, which is hundreds of dollars a year wasted before even using electricity.
Most other providers don’t charge a membership fee at all.
3. Overpriced Daily Supply Charge – $38.75 Per Month
Energy Locals charged $1.25 per day, adding $38.75 per month to my bill.
This was in addition to peak, off-peak, and controlled load charges.
Again, most other providers charge much less for daily supply costs.
4. Terrible Solar Feed-in Tariff – 1c/kWh
They only pay 1c/kWh for exported solar, while other providers offer up to 7c/kWh.
This meant I was getting almost nothing for my excess solar power—a terrible deal for solar owners.
Proof Attached
I’ve attached a screenshot of my actual bill to prove these outrageous charges. These amounts change each month, but this is just one example of what I was charged.
Final Verdict – Avoid Energy Locals
Energy Locals looks cheap at first, but their hidden costs make them one of the most expensive providers. Their customer service is good, but that doesn’t make up for their scammy demand charges, high supply fees, and unnecessary membership costs.
I switched to another provider and now save hundreds of dollars every month.

Energy Locals appears to be very competitive and easy to use software.
Easy, fair and good…
Easy sign up for a fair and transparent product. You get wholesale energy prices for a low monthly fee. They hedge their power buying to protect you from sudden price changes and pass the real rate straight on to you. No games, no disappearing discounts. Just a simple service from good people.

Your referred prices seems pretty good.
I hope there will be no problem in the future, changing your rates rapidly.
I keep an eye on you and I don't deny my hesitation.
Good energy pricing for sa
Ease of information great rate and ease of transfering
Charged for a home I don’t live at
It stings being told I didn’t submit my move out form properly and being charged for an empty property I don’t live at anymore - therefore not using electricity for a year. No refund, not even a credit when I asked for that as an alternative. 2 stars not 1 because my actual electricity connection was fine.
I switched to Energy Locals for my electricity and gas!…
I switched to Energy Locals for my electricity in July, 2024, because of its good rates and ease to do sign up and do business.
No hassles!
I have now switched to Energy Locals for my gas.
The Process Was Easy
As I already have my electricity account with Energy Locals, I was glad I could finally transfer my Gas account. The process was certainly easy.
However, may I STRONGLY suggest that you make it easier to put in our DOB's? It took me 2 to 3 minutes of constant clicking just to get back to 1958, and then I had to do it all over again, after I added my husband's contact details. Surely there must be an easier way than having to click through every single month of every single year?

Prices used to be really good but price increases have made them more expensive than other companies now. It pays to shop around. I'm looking at changing due to their current prices.

It was easy to sign up and I love that we can offer cheaper solar power to our local friends
It was easy to sign up and when I compared the power rates with my previous supplier the cost was either comparable or significantly lower with Energy Locals. I was not able to run all the scenarios hence. In any case Energy Locals allows us to sell our excess power either to our local friends or back to ourselves in our other residence.
Easy process great rates and fees
