Very poor

Very poor, I complained that a review was written by an ex employee and they haven’t done anything about it. What is the point of trying to ensure that you leave a proper and correct review when the platform you have written it on can’t even bother to address the blatant rubbish a bitter ex employee writes!!

Trustpilot failed my business when it…

Trustpilot failed my business when it mattered most

I am leaving this review because my experience with Trustpilot has fundamentally damaged my confidence in its review system and, more importantly, in the protection it provides to small businesses facing what I believe was a vindictive and potentially coordinated attack on their reputation.

This was not simply a case of a business receiving negative reviews and refusing to accept criticism.

I reported multiple reviews and provided evidence which, in my view, demonstrated a pattern of behaviour consistent with a vindictive attack against my business.

That evidence included concerns about reviewers for whom I could not identify corresponding transactions, alongside evidence relating to another reviewer that I could demonstrate had received and used my products. I also provided information concerning the circumstances surrounding the reviews and why I believed the reviews needed much more scrutiny than an ordinary negative customer experience.

I did not ask Trustpilot to remove reviews because they were negative.

I asked them to investigate because I had provided evidence giving me legitimate reasons to believe that the reviews did not represent straightforward, independent consumer experiences.

Trustpilot had that information.

And despite it, the reviews remained.

Trustpilot deemed them to be “honest”.

That is the part I find particularly difficult to understand.

If a business provides evidence suggesting that several reviews may form part of a vindictive or coordinated campaign, surely the appropriate response is to investigate the circumstances thoroughly rather than effectively reducing the issue to whether the reviewer maintains that their review is genuine.

I appreciate that Trustpilot cannot know with certainty what is in another person's mind, and I am not claiming that Trustpilot has established that the reviews were deliberately fabricated. My complaint is about what happened after I provided evidence that I believed demonstrated a pattern of conduct.

The result has left me feeling that my business was not adequately protected from potentially abusive use of the review system.

And there is a fundamental imbalance here.

A reviewer can publish an allegation about a business publicly.

The business then has to defend its reputation.

But the evidence submitted by the business during the dispute is not sitting beside that review for potential customers to see. If Trustpilot ultimately leaves the review online, the public sees the allegation — while the circumstances and evidence challenging it remain largely invisible.

For a small business, that can be devastating.

I can accept an honest negative review.

I can accept criticism.

What I cannot accept is a system where a business provides evidence raising serious questions about the circumstances behind multiple reviews and is then effectively told that the reviews are staying anyway.

That is where Trustpilot failed my business.

Not because they disagreed with me.

Not because they refused to remove a review simply because I disputed it.

They failed me because, from my perspective, the evidence I supplied did not result in the level of investigation or protection I reasonably expected from a platform whose entire reputation is built around authentic and trustworthy reviews.

Trustpilot's name is literally built around trust.

After this experience, I have considerably less of it.

If you are a business considering using Trustpilot, I would strongly recommend looking beyond the impressive headline statistics and asking a much more important question:

What happens when you have evidence that the review system itself is being used against you?

My experience is that even when you provide evidence raising serious concerns, you may still be left with the reviews published against your business and very little ability to make the public aware of the evidence you supplied.

For my business, that is not what I expected from a platform that claims to champion trustworthy reviews.

Trust has to work both ways.
