I have bought and sold privately, every now and then, on Gumtree for about 10 years with no problems whatsoever.
In the last month I deleted some old ads and re-advertised them with lower prices but this time every ad was removed and became inactive practically straight away. There is a note against the inactive ad saying all my ads had broken posting rules and they have sent an explanation by email. No emails were received & I checked their posting rules & I can't see I have broken any rules. I have emailed them but they said they couldn't see the ads & I had to confirm my email address. I provided more information but have not heard anything since.
I have tried to repost my ads again but they all are removed immediately and go inactive. Infuriating, especially as I don't know why. Only thing I can see that's changed is AI trying to write my descriptions as soon as I add a photo (and AI description is even putting incorrect sizes in description!)

People post items and dont reply , waste of time.

I have an ad posted and I have a buyer but I cannot send a reply. I have spent hours trying to contact a real person to no avail. Really bad app

An item we sold was confirmed delivered over a week ago. The buyer had paid Gumtree direct. Gumtree sent us a message: "Great News - the order was delivered on 17th August 2026. The funds will be transferred to your bank account after 48 hours. More than a week later - nothing! Joke Customer Service - Pathetic Company.

I put an ad up for my business and paid £23 for promotions etc etc but within 8 secs (literally 8 seconds) it got removed. I was told they will email me the reason and still waiting for their reason. I am trying to reach their customer service, and I’ve sent few emails, submitted online queries but it’s been over 10 days now and no response from them. Seems like they been taken over by some cowboys. I would definitely avoid this and I am deleting my account with them. They surely have lost a customer.
POOR SERVICE, spend your money elsewhere rather than on BUMTREE 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

Recently, I was conned on this platform. I suspected that there was something wrong pretty quickly so I sent a report to customer services. This seller had failed to deliver the goods that had been paid for and not sent a tracking number. This was reported to Gumtree. I mentioned that as they hadn't taken down any of their sixteen adverts that this amounted to suspicious behaviour [ especially as i was told by the seller mine and others were to be posted- -there weren't]. I let Gumtree know know that i felt the seller had left the adverts up to con other buyers. I asked them to suspend the account until the matter could be resolved. They they failed to do. A week+ on from my first message, the account is still live. Do Gumtree not care that this platform is being used to con people? It seems not.

Removed all my ads with zero explanation. No contact number or web chat, only email. After 3 days I receive a reply that it's because I didn't declare as a business.
I told them I'm not a business, but after receiving no reply, I decided to play along and posted an ad again this time declaring as a business (which I'm clearly not). For this, I had to pay £5 to post the ad(!!!!).
Within seconds of posting the ad, I had my post removed again, with no explanations. No refund.
Absolute cowboys and scammers.

Gumtree Advertiser paid up so many Adverts but this one is Heart - breaking ,My Pedigree Ragdoll Kittens for Rehoming with Feature and Promotions fees paid .
Every single time its REMOVED Gumtree saying you had your Two Allowances for the year !When it was clearly NOT.
However unlike all other Pets for Rehoming Web sites for private breeders ,Dates are clearly written on your account of WHEN THE ALLOWANCE STARTS ?
Gumtree just make it up from some random customer service agent that has it in for you !! So sad for the Beautiful Kittens !

I had to pay £39.99 for an advert. They check the advert before it goes live. They cancelled my advert and said they would email why. I never got the email so i placed another advert thinking I would get my £39.99 back. They cancelled my second advert. So now they have two payments from me. I asked them to explain why when I had seen similar posts to what mine said and picture. They sent me the same reply twice and not answered my questions. So now i am £79.98 down and they won’t refund me my money. There was no contract broken as it never went live. I am going to look into taking this further. DONOT use gumtree they won’t give you a refund for something they haven’t advertised for you. I am sure this is illegal.

This site is simply stealing your money. You place an advert, pay for it, they allow it to appear, and then they simply delete it – without any explanation. They don’t put it on ‘hold’ in case there are any breaches that need to be rectified. No. They simply delete it, and you’re left with only two options – try to guess the reason, re-upload the advert and hand over your money to them again, or give up. This has happened to me several times in a row. I’ve paid for my advert several times, only for it to be deleted without any explanation. They have virtually no customer support. They simply refer you to their FAQs. It feels as though this system is now run by bots, with the sole purpose of swindling people out of their money. Because I can’t find a reasonable explanation as to why users who have paid for the service aren’t allowed to correct their advert if there’s something wrong with it, instead of it being silently and categorically deleted.

If I could score one star I would.
Spent over £30 not one response from advert very little views.
Emailed customer services and they said sorry you haven’t had a response but we won’t refund you! That sometimes happens.
I was selling a brand new Smeg fridge freezer which was an insurance replacement which was £1900 new and I was selling for £750.

Gumtree has become the most unhelpful site on the internet whereby they are hiding every info possible to contact them directly. Their online Chat does nor work. Whatever phone numbers I had, do not work any more. Not all complaints can be explained to the robots on the Chat. This is abysmal and they expect every person (including those are computer illiterate) to abide with their system. Diabolical service.

This is absolutely scamming company!

We tried to use few times their platform for builders and painters recruitments.

Each time they charged over £30 advertising which became active after days of chasing absolutely incompetent customer service (if it can be called customer service) and then applicants were some mentally ill people with no clue what they were applying for (probably generated by AI or so….)
After contacting customer service we been always ignored .
AVOID THIS SCAMMERS AND THIEFS AT ALL COST!!!!

Awful site, took my money but rejected my advert, so if im not getting an advert how can they take my money. Absolute scammers dont use them

There's a reason why people won't used them anymore, purely scam platform by Gumtree, how they charge for the adds and how they manage.

An item I ordered on 30th July via Gumtree delivery has been stuck in transit since 3rd August, and I got an email from Evri stating the parcel was lost. Despite this, Gumtree is delaying their full refund as per their buyer protection policy for as long as possible. They have made no effort to contact Evri, the parcel service responsible for the delivery, to get updates on the issue. They have no respect for their buyers and sellers.

Unlike Evri, they at least provide some means to communicate with human customer service associates, but even they are not helpful at all. When attempting to do a live chat to get an issue sorted, they will state they will "have a delivery specialist look into the issue" and just end the chat without any further communication.

It has been two weeks since I ordered my item - I still have not received the item, I still did not hear anything back from Gumtree, and I still did not receive any form of refund.

Update: Reaching live chat is now impossible, with live chat queue starting at 90+ at the start of the day and never reaching my turn by the end of the day - meaning I have to try again the next day, where the same pattern occurs. I still did not receive my refund.

Avoid Gumtree at all costs.
